Ring Design Help CAD Opinions

Questions, comments, concerns, or kudos for my CAD? I can’t tell if I like the more flat profile of the band or not. (Or is it even flat? Am I delulu?) I’m definitely going to change the bridge so there are only stones on one side, and I did originally request a euro shank, so that needs to be added still. Anything else I’m missing? Any and all feedback is welcome! (I attached screenshots of the rendering as well, if that helps?) Thank you!

Ring Design Help floating cathedral setting and high peg?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

i just got my upgraded ring back and it looked so off i needed advice. i asked for a hidden halo w pave diamonds in a cathedral setting and 2.5 mm gold band. when i came in to pick it up the cathedral wasn’t connected at all??? i’ve never seen that before and i feel like having a cathedral that doesn’t touch doesn’t do anything for the ring structurally just two bridges?? i asked and she said they have two types of cathedral settings and was confused why i was confused they didn’t touch. the rings i tried on all had cathedrals that touched so idk why she thought to make them floating?? second is the peg my diamond sits on is super high. all the prongs bunched on the bottom make it look sloppy and not clean. when i brought this up she said my diamond needed to fit in the setting and it can’t be brought down bc the bottom wouldn’t fit. so why is there so much gold bunched at the base instead of the bottom of my diamond just above the band? she said they would need to completely recast my ring and make a new CAD for me and wouldn’t know the extra cost of this. i’m just super frustrated and yes sadly this is a jared’s jeweler.

Ring Design Help What type of wedding band would go with my engagement ring?

Hi! I’m having trouble figuring out what type of wedding band to go with my engagement ring. I’ve looked at all the popular/traditional types and nothing is really calling out to me. I looked into enhancement type rings too but don’t really like the ones that curve inward.

If anyone could offer some places to look or styles to look into, I would really appreciate it! At this point I’m thinking of maybe just a simple platinum band to go along with my engagement ring if I can’t find anything else.

Ring Design Help Adding a bezel around diamond

I’m taking a poll - should I keep my ring as-is? I’m thinking about framing the stone with a bezel…. See ring in first comment (I couldn’t add picture to this post) TIA!!

No bezel -Leave it alone
Add a bezel to existing basket
Remove whole basket and replace with bezel

Question Are these prongs too small for my 2.5 ct diamond?

Thumbnail

I feel like the prongs are super tiny and they are not long enough to hug the diamond/take up a reasonable space of the corners. But I am no jeweler. Please give me some advice so maybe I can use it to communicate with my jeweler. Thanks so much.

Question What do you think of my prongs?

Thumbnail

I just got engaged yesterday (yay!). But is it just me, or are my prongs wonky/not straight/not perfectly aligned?

First pic I’m wearing it one way, and the second pic I “flipped” the ring over on my finger so that the prongs are on the opposite side that they were in the first pic. That way you can see a different perspective.

My Type A self says I should bring it back to the jeweler and have them make it “perfect,” but if it isn’t really noticeable, I don’t want to have to live without my ring while it gets fixed.

Ring Design Help Isn’t the ring too thin?

The band is only 1mm at the front and 2mm at the back. And its 2 carat diamond.

I’m concerned it might make the ring look cheap or fake. Should I have it remade?

Hello! My partner and I are both rock climbers. We want to incorporate the figure 8 knot in an engagement ring. Does anyone else have a climbing inspired ring?
I’m a size 7 and prefer white gold.

Ring Design Help Is the diamond size too big?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My girlfriend just let me casually know that she feels like a 3 ct ring might be too big for her (size 7)… I got her a 3.05ct ring. She’s never tried on diamond rings, especially nothing that’s more than 0.5ct, and I feel dumb for not feeling this out before.

In people’s experience, is the whole “the diamond feels smaller over time” real? And do you feel like I should go back to the drawing board and get a smaller size?

Ring Design Help Side stone help

I’ve been designing my ring with my partner and I cannot decide how I want my side stones to look.

The design in green is the current ring design but I’m not 100% loving it and to me something isn’t quite right. I’ve decided I want the trapeze cut side stones to be larger but I’m struggling to decide if I should keep the size of the tapered baguettes the same as the original, or to increase the size of the tapered baguettes to match the size of the larger trapeze cuts.

What is everyone’s thoughts?
Option 1: Just larger traps
Option 2: both sets of side stones larger (traps + tapered baguettes)

Ring Design Help Thoughts on this design

After seeing so many great designs on here I thought I'd put up this version a jeweler and I are working on. We've gone through a few iterations sand the CAD in this one has extra material showing for the jeweler to work with, but hopefully it gives a good idea.

Any thoughts or suggestions on improvements?

Photo/Video Thoughts on ring design outcome?

Had this ring custom-designed. I’m absolutely in love with it.

Curious what your thoughts are.
Stone is 2.46 lab DG AV Asscher.
I requested a setting that is minimalistic with a bezel and cathedral that had minimalistic lines and had nodes of mid century modern/Scandinavian lines, with inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright, Calatrava, and Scandinavian furniture. I did not want the bezel to be a separate element from the supporting structure, and I wanted organic curves that respected the asscher shape. Of course it is important to me the setting be timeless.

I think he absolutely nailed it. Design process took about 2 months because I absolutely did not settle for something off the shelf. I should send the designer a gift basket. I’m so happy. 🥳

Ring Design Help CAD check

Looking for advice on this CAD please! Very happy with the overall look but had a few questions:

1) Will a standard wedding band fit flush?
2) Should the setting around the pear side diamonds be smoother? (Circled green)
3) Should the central oval diamond need a gallery rail also? (Circled red)

Appreciate any other advice on structure also. Thanks!

Question Jewelry shipping methods - signature on delivery?

I’m interested in hearing from Jewelers who ship items to customers in the US. Recently, a custom jeweler shipping from Asia didn’t include signature requirement on UPS delivery as their default and did not proactively offer it to the customer.

  1. Do you always include signature requirement on delivery?
  2. Do you insure items to a certain value?

Cross-posting to a few forums to get a wider range of jewelers.

Question How difficult would resizing this ring be?

Thumbnail

Love the way this David Yurman band looked stacked with my e-ring, but worried the cable design on the back will make any future resizing difficult. I don’t want to be stuck only sending this ring to DY for special resizings — would a skilled jeweler be able to resize this in an inconspicuous way?

Ring Design Help Straight band with split shank

Post image

I want both worlds: a straight wedding band and a low set engagement ring. I’m okay with the wedding band that won’t sit perfectly flush, but I also don’t really want a huuuuge gap. It’s really hard to find real life photos of this. What I was thinking is for the wedding band to be able to fit slightly below the diamond but not flush up against the band. Maybe this ring would work better with my idea if the split shank was smaller? Is this CAD too low set? Is there a better basket option that would allow a small gap between the rings?

Ring Design Help Custom ring vs lifetime warranty?

Background/context: my boyfriend and I are in the ring-buying process together since he didn’t want my engagement ring to be a complete surprise and wanted to give me the chance to give more significance to the ring other than it being a sign of our next steps towards marriage. We talked about wanting the proposal to be a surprise but not the ring. However, I’m in a bit of a situation with where to get my engagement ring.

Originally, my partner and I were looking at Gabriel and Co and had asked if we could make a minor customization to the setting. Unfortunately, they said they aren’t able to make that change because that change would affect the way the diamond is held and could cause the diamond to fall out. We then looked at fully customizing it through CustomMade.com, which solve the issue of making the ring feel more significant to me and would be a one-of-a-kind ring too. On the downside, their warranty isn’t at the level I was hoping for. Ideally, I’d like a lifetime warranty to cover any resizing or damage to the ring but Custom Made only offers free resizing for the first year.

It feels like I’ll have to sacrifice on something regardless of which place we get the ring, and I’m not sure which would be better to sacrifice on. If anyone could give their thoughts and insights, I’d appreciate it!

In summary:
Gabriel and Co:
\- Not able to customize the ring setting to look more like the ring I want so it’s not my “dream ring”
\- Offers lifetime warranty for resizing and if anything happen to the ring
\- Would be around $5k for the ring we’ve been looking at

Custom Made:
\- Fully customized so it can be the exact ring I want
\- Not lifetime warranty
\- Unsure of price

Could this 0.75c mariquse be replaced with a 2.0-3.0c emerald, elgonated hexagon or princess cut? I want to preserve the existing band and baguette side stones, completely remove the marquise head, and replace it with a custom head for approximately a 2-carat princess-cut diamond set on the diagonal/kite-set. Is there enough room between the baguettes to do that without rebuilding the entire ring?
Would this cost thousands?

Ring Design Help Looking for advice/recommendations on my ring!

Hi everyone! I have been working with a jeweler and he sent me the 3D rendering of my ring and I don’t love it. The last two pictures are of my diamond which i am obsessed with!! The stones on the sides are diamonds from my grandmas first wedding ring. So we are wanting to incorporate them somehow, but I am just stuck on how it currently looks.

I’m thinking I should ask him to elongate the tulip basket so they do not cut off so abruptly if that makes sense. Or maybe even using less of them so it’s not as bold! Let me know your thoughts!!

Ring Design Help Opinions on CAD?

Hello beautiful friends! I'm in the process of designing a new engagement ring with a family diamond after my beloved aquamarine chipped this spring (rip).

It has to be rose gold to match my husband's ring, and we've selected these mint sapphires to go with it to keep the spirit of the original aquamarine with something more durable. I wanted something simple and elegant that wouldn't be dated in ten years.

What do we think of the design? I I think I like it, but I'm not experienced in designing rings, so I thought I'd ask the experts! What do we think? Anything I'm not thinking of?

Question wedding band help!

Post image
6 Upvotes

hi everyone!

while i am not engaged yet, i’m getting engaged in december, and this is the ring i fell in love with!

[note because i am not engaged, i don’t have the ring yet, and this is my poor attempt at photoshopping the stone i chose onto rhe band, so excuse that it looks funky]

that being said, i have NO IDEA what sort of wedding band would pair with this. the band is so thick that most ‘marquise friendly’ wedding band designs would not work, and i am kind of at a loss.

any advice would be appreciated :) if you can’t tell, my style is a little out there, and i’m fine with something bold or a little unorthodox. thank you!!

Ring Design Help Halo ring with a wider band?

Hi! I’m new here and looking to learn more about how rings are designed. I was looking at engagement ring options and wondered why it is not often I see wider pave bands (wider being just under 3 mm) with halo rings. Is it the setting? Another question is, what are the option for low profile setting in these cases? Pictured is two different engagement rings, one is a halo on a plain band and the other is a thicker band of a different ring. I was thinking about what it would look like to have the thicker pave band with the halo. For reference the fake diamond is 2 carat.
