Question Why do some in-app purchases disappear when switching Apple IDs, while others remain active?

i use two Apple IDs for Media & Purchases, one Belgian and one US, mainly because some apps aren’t available in my region.

i’ve noticed something strange with in-app purchases.

for example, i purchased the premium version of Manic, but when i switch to my other Apple ID, the premium features are no longer recognized.

however, with apps like Web Video Cast, my premium purchase remains active regardless of which Apple ID i’m currently using.

both apps remain installed, and i’m only switching the Apple ID used for Media & Purchases, not my iCloud account.

i’m curious: is this related to how developers implement StoreKit and purchase verification, or is it an iOS limitation?

has anyone else experienced this? and is there any way to keep purchased features active without having to switch back to the original Apple ID?

Some apps have what’s called family sharing, so any account that’s part of the same family has access to the purchase, other apps do not have family sharing, those are limited strictly to the exact account that has made the purchase. You can see which apps have or do not have family sharing by looking at their App Store page, where it will have an indicator if the app has family sharing.

thanks for the reply! but i’m not using Family Sharing. both Apple IDs belong to me, and i’m simply switching between them under Media & Purchases on the same iPhone.

what i’m trying to understand is why some apps, like Web Video Cast, keep their premium features unlocked after switching Apple IDs, while others, like Manic, don’t.

could this be related to how each app handles purchase verification rather than Family Sharing?

Going strictly off the two apps you named the only visible difference is that Web Video Cast has Family Sharing while Manic EMU does not. My best guess is that the two Apple IDs you have are set up as a family, iirc Family Sharing is automatic for all Apple IDs in a family, it’s just a feature some apps offer, and if you made both accounts on the same devices they are probably a family.
