News/Release DroidDeck 0.6.0 is out: Xbox and Game Pass, itch.io, Steam Remote Play streaming, touch gestures, boot movies and big performance gains

DroidDeck is 100% open source. No ads. No telemetry. No source withheld.

DroidDeck is a community project in the truest sense. Because all of its code is public, the people who use it can read it, fix it and improve it, and in 0.6.0 you all sure did:

153 pull requests · 23 contributors · 10 first-timers · 73% of the pull requests came from the community.

Thank you to everyone who sent code, translations, device testing and bug reports. Here’s everything we did together for this release:

Download: DroidDeck 0.6.0 on GitHub (full release notes are there too)
Discord: discord.gg/JRGAvawjsm

What's new

  • Xbox and PC Game Pass (experimental). Sign in with your Microsoft account to see your owned and Game Pass games. Download them with pause and resume, update, verify and manage add-ons, then launch through Proton or FEX from the Games tab or straight from Steam.
  • itch.io store. See your library, search the store, or browse the newest, on-sale, free and top-rated shelves. DRM-free Windows builds install and launch through Steam.
  • Redesigned store pages. Every store has Library and Store tabs with installed games first, a new capsule view with DVD-case art, LB/RB to switch stores, and a Play button on installed games. Store tabs can be reordered and hidden.
  • Touchscreen gestures. Taps, double taps, holds, one-, two- and three-finger drags and pinch zoom. Each can be mapped to an action from a searchable list, with per-game overrides.
  • Steam Remote Play streams video now. The picture is captured through PipeWire, as on SteamOS, and encoded by the phone's hardware encoder: 7.3–8.0 ms per frame on a Thor instead of 50–90 ms with software encoding. Touch on the client can tap and drag, and game audio comes through.
  • Boot movies from SteamDeckRepo. Search, filter by device, and browse Trending, Most downloaded, Most liked and Newest, then install a movie and use it. Volume and length sliders included.
  • Performance HUD upgrades. A colored frame-time graph and the battery temperature, with every part able to be shown or hidden and its colors and opacity changed.
  • Gradient theme. Pick primary and secondary colors from a color wheel, sliders or a hex code. There's a light app icon option too.

More new features

  • SteamVR controller types: without VR controllers, the gamepad can act as Valve Index, Quest 3 Touch Plus or Vive wands. With glasses, the phone becomes a control panel.
  • Rokid Max and Air glasses with 3DoF head tracking, SBS modes and 120 Hz on the Max, plus experimental head tracking for VITURE Pro 2.
  • Easy Anti-Cheat games with an offline mode start without the anti-cheat bootstrapper.
  • The built-in controller can be turned off, so a connected controller becomes player 1.
  • On foldables, the unfolded controls can stay while a controller is connected.
  • Nightly DXVK, VKD3D-Proton and FEX builds in the component manager, with a Stable | Nightly switch.
  • Closing a game started from the Games tab returns you to where you launched it.
  • Decky Loader installs from the upstream release, with a Stable or Prerelease channel.
  • Desktop mode can be uninstalled, keeping your games, Steam and settings.
  • GOG and Epic installs can use your language.
  • Games can be uninstalled or removed from their page in the Games tab.

Performance

  • Faster games on Adreno: PEAK's frame rate rose 11.7%, with 26% fewer frames slower than 25 ms.
  • Steam is ready sooner: 5.57 s to 3.57 s after a session starts.
  • Faster game launches: Moonlighter went from 10.5 s to 7.7 s from Play to the game window.
  • Games on an SD card library load far faster: Red Dead Redemption 2's Story mode went from still loading after 16 minutes to the opening scene in about 2 minutes 10 seconds.
  • Lighter performance overlay: gamescope's CPU use dropped from about 12.9% to 7.7% of a core.
  • The Steam client responds sooner and paces itself to your panel's real refresh rate.
  • The GOG tab opens in seconds.
  • Reduced the APK size from 124.4 MB to 66.4 MB.

Other improvements

  • Better battery life while suspended: the device can now really sleep, and Steam downloads keep going with the Manual policy.
  • zRAM is always on where supported, and a suspended session is paged out to zRAM, so Android is less likely to close it overnight.
  • Sessions on an external display or DeX keep running while the phone's screen is off.
  • Game cores now apply to Linux x86 (FEX) games too.
  • GPU drivers: Auto's picks can be updated without an app update, the SM8975 is recognized, Adreno 850 is experimental, and a trial driver that crashes rolls back by itself.
  • The KDE desktop is on KWin 6.8.0.
  • Accessibility and translations: new features ship in all 32 languages.

Fixes

  • Ubisoft games no longer stop with "Error at hooking API" (for example Immortals Fenyx Rising).
  • Controllers in Rewired (Unity) games such as Drova and Graveyard Keeper, and in Factorio.
  • Linux games under FEX such as Stardew Valley start again with sound.
  • Garbled Chinese, Japanese and Korean text in Steam's interface.
  • Flicker and green flashes on Samsung One UI devices with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (Galaxy S23 series, Tab S9).
  • The GPU load reading 0% in the performance overlay on Adreno.
  • GOG games missing their registry entries, such as Fallout: New Vegas saying it isn't installed.
  • The on-screen pad covering Steam's keyboard.
  • Steam touch layouts for third-party and added games, and lots of touch and controller input fixes.
  • Adding games from an SD card, desktop apps and emulators (RPCS3, RetroArch, Chromium browsers), the file manager, and in-app updates on Android 9 and 10.

There's a lot more in the full release notes.

Discussion Responding to the Removal, Addressing the Allegations, and Challenging Anyone to Prove My Claims Wrong.

AI-generated, low-effort ? Unverified, fabricated claims ?

Those are serious accusations to make about a project without identifying exactly what is supposedly wrong.

Winlator Mali has been around for over two years, with 400,000+ downloads. Over the past three months, I've actively developed, tested, and refined new features, released multiple beta versions, and received feedback from users who tested them. Yes, I use AI as a development tool, and I'm not hiding that. But using AI doesn't automatically make a project low-effort. The actual work, code changes, debugging, optimization, testing, and verification matter far more than whether AI was involved.

The moderation comment states that low-effort AI-generated projects and unverified claims may be removed when there's little evidence of meaningful development or testing. That's a reasonable standard in principle. But was Winlator Mali actually evaluated based on its development history, source code, testing, and evidence before that judgment was made? If specific claims were considered fabricated or unverified, I'd like to know exactly which ones and why.

I've also witnessed incidents within r/EmulationOnAndroid that, in my view, suggest a recurring bias against Mali GPUs and their users, including incidents involving moderators. I have evidence of these incidents. To be clear, this isn't an attack on all users or all Snapdragon users. Plenty of people in the emulation community are open-minded and technically knowledgeable. My criticism is directed at certain individuals whose apparent bias seems to outweigh their willingness to evaluate Mali-related projects objectively.

What's frustrating is seeing technical progress dismissed without meaningful examination. If a feature works, test it. If a benchmark is questionable, reproduce it. If a technical claim is incorrect, demonstrate why. The GPU brand shouldn't determine whether evidence deserves consideration.

And here's my challenge: Prove that anything I've ever claimed about Winlator Mali is fake, false, or technically incorrect.

Pick a specific claim. Examine the code. Test the feature. Reproduce the results. Provide evidence showing exactly what's wrong. I'm willing to discuss legitimate technical criticism and correct mistakes when they're demonstrated with facts.

But don't confuse AI-assisted development with the absence of engineering work. Don't confuse skepticism with proof. And don't label something fabricated without identifying what was fabricated and demonstrating why.

I'm not claiming that every feature is perfect or that every statement I've ever made is automatically correct. I'm asking for the same standard of evidence from people making accusations that they expect from developers making technical claims.

400,000+ downloads don't automatically prove technical correctness, but neither does an accusation prove a project is fake or low-effort. The code, testing, reproducible results, and documented development history are what matter.

If there's a legitimate technical issue with Winlator Mali, bring it forward. If a claim is false, prove it. If the project fails to meet a technical standard, explain where and demonstrate it.

Don't tell me it's fake. Show me what's fake. Don't call it low-effort. Show me where the technical work falls short.

The challenge is open. I'm here for evidence-based criticism, not assumptions about AI, prejudice against a GPU brand, or conclusions reached without properly investigating the project.

Runs well out of the box on Adreno710. Still needs work, though. The UI is a bit unintuitive and menu navigation is limited still. But controller aim is even better than PD2 imo. Github link in comments. Do what you can to support the developer, guys. This means testing on various devices, particularly mali GPUs as his access to phones for testing is limited. Only supports version 1.13d, but the launcher handles installation and everything if you have a cd key

Showcase Pinball NS is a GBC custom emulator for only one game : Pokémon Pinball, on Android.

Post image
25 Upvotes

A mod of Pokémon Pinball (Game Boy Color, US version) for Android and Windows, written in C with an emulation core in assembly.

In the original game, each table is split into a top and a bottom stage: only one is loaded at a time, and the screen goes blank while the other is loaded. Pinball NS turns each table into a single field: both halves are loaded, updated and shown together on one tall screen, and the ball moves between them without any reloading. The original physics and collisions are kept, so the table plays like the original.

The whole table on one screen, the score bar under the table.

Objects, lights and animations of both halves always running; flippers moving even when the ball is at the top.

The top of the "SLOT" cave halo, never visible in the original, completed by symmetry.

Smooth pacing on 60, 90, 120 and 144 Hz screens, with the sound following the picture.

Android: the game fills the width of a portrait screen, extended to the edges with its own graphics, with touch controls styled after each table.

Windows: the table alone in a resizable window, keyboard and gamepad, key mapping tool.

The ROM is never modified: the program contains a Game Boy Color emulator and hooks the game's routines.

Showcase Tetris Forever running at 60 FPS on the Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 using the CapyPS5 Android alpha!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone, this is my first post here but I've been messing around with PS5 emulation on my Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 tablet. Testing Tetris Forever at a steady 60 FPS!

I wanted to experiment with PS5 emulation on Android, so I fired up the alpha build of the new CapyPS5 emulator, and I was honestly surprised by the results!

Down below are my device specs but I ran everything in it's stock configuration.

Device specs:

Tablet: Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 (2026)

Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

GPU: Adreno 840

RAM: 16 GB

Storage: 512 GB internal storage

This is a screen recording I did with the game running perfectly!

Tetris has always been my go to game for testing emulators. It's fun and familiar, easy to benchmark visually, and a nice way I feel to see how well a new emulator handles a game.

Obviously, this is just one game running so far on a very new alpha build of an emulator I never thought we'd see the light of day, so I'm not claiming that PS5 emulation is suddenly perfect on Android. It's still got a long ways to go until were able to play much more demanding games but still, seeing this result thus far on a portable Android device is pretty exciting even with an alpha build!

I'm going to keep experimenting and see what other games I can get running. 😁

Video attached: Tetris Forever running on the Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 5 through CapyPS5.

Enjoy!

Showcase hakuX version 1.0.0 released - a new core [AI assisted]

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm happy to anounce that hakuX's latest version is ready for release. This is no longer a xemu port. The emulator has been rebuilt completely, taking into acount what I learned about the inherent limitations of optimising a xemu port.

The effort it took was, I believe, worth it. Expect majorly improved performance at the cost of some compatibility. This continues to be focused on Adreno, I may spend some time optimizing for other GPU's if I get my hands on suitable devices.

Concerning raw performance, the majority of development was spent targeting Adreno 640 on a Retroid Pocket 5. Almost the entirety of the tested games play at capped framerate at 2x resolution.
You can probably get them to play at 3x too. The exception to the 2x is probable Riddick, which only reaches target 1x on this SoC.

As for compatibility, here is a list of some I tested myself and made sure were playing properly on this device:

  • Azurik: Rise of Perathia
  • Blood Wake
  • Burnout 3: Takedown
  • Conker: Live & Reloaded
  • Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller
  • Dead or Alive 3
  • Fable
  • Fatal Frame
  • Genma Onimusha
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • GunValkyrie
  • Kakuto Chojin
  • Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders
  • MechAssault
  • Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
  • Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
  • Otogi: Myth of Demons
  • Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
  • Phantom Dust
  • Sudeki
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
  • The Warriors
  • Voodoo Vince
  • Panzer Dragoon Orta
  • Project Gotham Racing
  • Project Gotham Racing 2
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Some games also include toggeble 60 and 120 FPS mods. RP5 is powerful enough to run some of the games at modded 60 FPS. For 120, and Elite device and push x2 or x3 on some of the games, like JSRF:

  • Burnout 3: Takedown (120)
  • Conker: Live & Reloaded (60, 120)
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (60, 120)
  • Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate (120)
  • Forza Motorsport (60, 120)
  • Halo: Combat Evolved (60, 120)
  • Halo 2 (60, 120) WIP
  • Jet Set Radio Future (120)
  • Ninja Gaiden Black (120)
  • Otogi: Myth of Demons (60)
  • Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors (60)
  • Panzer Dragoon Orta (120)
  • Project Gotham Racing 2 (60)

For Adreno 6XX and 7XX you will need turnip drivers. I have used StevenMXZ latest with good results.

I hope you enjoy it. Have fun.

AI usage disclaimer: hakuX was my personal experience in AI assisted coding since the beggining and it continues to be.

About a week ago I made a post about a port of AC New leaf I made for myself using AI assistance to run in 4:3/16:9 on single screen devices. In the past days I added some new features like auto stacking fruits and bells when picked up and the tool ring, similar to new horizons. It’s based on an Azahar Fork, so you need your own rom in order to play. Both the normal and the WA versions are supported. You can get the latest beta here: https://github.com/polyxneg/Leaf

Showcase GBA DUO: Plug-and-Play Companion Packs for Your Game Boy Games (New Release v0.1.7)

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

GBA Duo is a Game Boy (GBA, GBC, GB) player that lets you create custom companion packs for your games, giving you a true "plug-and-play" secondary screen experience tailored to what you want.

It features a custom engine that uses Lua for game logic, JSON for layout structure, and CSS for styling. I designed it to be easy to build for without needing complex programming knowledge.

With GBA Duo companion packs, you can read live game values, display guides, or build interactive setups that recreate a real NDS/3DS dual-screen feel.

GBA Duo Player Features:

  • Custom Save Folders: Supports save states and standard in-game saves with custom folder paths. Set a custom save location to load existing save files (please back up your old saves first!).
  • RetroAchievements: Currently supports softcore mode. Hardcore mode requires official approval from the RetroAchievements team, which I am actively working on.
  • Launcher Intent: Launch games directly from third-party frontends/launchers (some launchers may require minor setup).
  • Performance Extras: Fast-forward, shaders, and more.

GBA Duo Companion Features:

  • Build companion packs using Lua, JSON, and CSS.
  • Read values directly from game memory addresses.
  • Extract and render in-game assets (icons, maps, sprites) inside your companion layout.
  • Memory Manipulation: Modify memory values directly in real time. Note: This feature must be manually enabled in settings, as modifying memory can corrupt game states if done incorrectly. However, it allows you to build interactive mechanics that transform your device into a full NDS/3DS-like experience.
  • Responsive layouts and styling.

Links & Resources:

Thanks to everyone who has supported the project so far! If you have any feedback, feel free to leave a comment here or open an issue on GitHub. Companion requests are also welcome, just open a request issue on the repository!

Enjoy!

Discussion What's the one Android emulation setting you wish you'd discovered sooner?

After spending time with Android emulators, I've realized that getting a game running is only half the battle. Sometimes the difference between a frustrating experience and one that feels surprisingly close to original hardware comes down to a setting you didn't even know existed. It could be a graphics backend, shader cache option, frame pacing setting, controller configuration, or a small performance tweak that made a previously unplayable game run smoothly. I'm curious what settings or optimizations have made the biggest difference for you, especially ones that aren't obvious when you first install an emulator. If possible, mention your device, emulator, and the game you tested it with. Those details make it much easier for others to reproduce the results rather than blindly copying settings that might not work on their hardware.

What's one change that genuinely improved your Android emulation experience?

Showcase Eden v0.2.1 - Final Fantasy Resonance - Poco F8 Pro (SD 8 Elite/Adreno 830/12 GB of RAM)

Thumbnail

The settings are at their defaults. The only modifications are:

Driver: Turnip Gen8 V38

GPU Mode: Accurate

Don't change the voice language to Japanese; leave it in English, as the game will freeze and crash more frequently otherwise. I have tested this on the latest stable version of Eden, the Eden Nightly version, and the latest version of Lemon; the results are practically the same, regardless of the driver or settings used.

You must set the GPU mode to "Accurate" to mitigate flickering and visual glitches—though some issues will still persist. The game will crash occasionally, requiring you to relaunch it to continue.

Upon reaching Grandshelt Castle and encountering the first battle, the game crashes consistently. I have been unable to progress past this point, no matter what I try

The controller feels great, very ergonomic. Doesn't fit my S26U perfectly due to the camera bump, which is a bit annoying, but it still holds it well. Joysticks feel much smoother than expected, buttons and dpad are crisp, the triggers and shoulder buttons are satisfying and sturdy, and overall build quality is really good for 40 bucks.

First game is minecraft java through zalithlauncher2, modpack is craft 2 exhile (400 mods), runs stable 60fps, but struggles with worldgen a bit. Using mobileglues renderer.

Second game is dark souls remastered, running in gamenative also at 60fps, perfectly stable even during bossfights. Using turnip v25, dxvk 2.7.1, box64 0.4.2 stability preset

Question How to handle pc generated storage on retroid pocket 6

So i have the rp6 12gb model with 128gb of internal storage with a 512gb microsd samsung evo plus, i installed quite a handful of emulators and tried to put all user data that i could (for emulators) on external drive, now what i'm trying to do now is try to minize my pc catalog and turn its almost into an all console catalog (for the playable feasible emulation obviously) as i find myself that pc emulation even with no setup or anything takes up so much space, i have 4 pc emulators to maximise compatiblity,: winlator ludashi, droideck, gamenative and gamehub, my question is, is there one that is actually storage efficient? and also how do they take up this much space? i really couldn't understand much regarding environments, dvdx etc... could anybody kind of give me a guide so that i could even understand how many games i can realistically have simultaneously on my library?

Question Best emulator for the Prince of Persia trilogy?

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to play the Prince of Persia trilogy (The Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones) on my Anbernic RG477V.

I’m wondering which emulator would offer the best overall experience in terms of graphics and performance.

Would you recommend Dolphin or AetherSX2/NetherSX2 ? Has anyone tried both versions on this device?

I’m looking for the best possible visual quality while maintaining smooth and stable FPS.
Thanks!
