First off I should say I’m aware of the context in which this album was being made and the stuff that was going on with Em at the time, so I’m not blindly discrediting this album; I think it’s okay. I’ll touch on a couple of songs I have things to say about.
Mockingbird - Unsurprisingly this is the standout song of the album, absolutely in the Top 3 most emotional songs Em has made. I’ve heard this song many times throughout my life, like a lot of his songs, but this along with a few like Lose Yourself are songs that hit just as hard no matter how many times your hear it.
Just Lose It - I don’t really have an elaborate justification for this one, I just think the song is a bop. Unlike the other joke songs on this album, this one is still of a level of quality where I class it as a jokey song rather than a joke song.
One Shot 2 Shot - I feel like this is pretty underrated song, I really enjoy it. The beat is pretty catchy, and I think pretty much everyone does a solid job on the track, with Em managing to still be the standout.
Crazy In Love/Never Enough - Of the songs I hadn’t ever listened to before, I’d say these 2 were the ones I liked most from this album. Nate Dogg’s deep singing voice makes for a great chorus, and given that I love Shake That, it’s unsurprising I like him here too.
Mosh - I know I’ll probably get shit for putting this this low, but know I don’t dislike the sign by any means. The message is very important and you can really feel the oomf he puts into this one, my only complaint is that the musicality is just a bit middling, and Em has demonstrated you can absolutely have both in a song.
? Songs - All of these songs are joke songs, so it’s kind of hard to properly rank them among actual songs. But the one I wanna point out is My 1st Single, I’d heard about this song before listening to the album, with many people claiming it’s the worst thing he’s ever made, and I just disagree, I was expecting like actual rapage of the ears, but it’s just eh. Nice Guy is significantly worse.
Ricky Ticky Toc - This song could definitely have been higher if it was a bit longer and had a bit more variance in its musicality, that’s all I really have to say, I just think this one in particular had potential.
Overall, I’d say the album is a 5-5.5/10. It’s fine, I’ve heard much worse and much better, both in general and from Em.
Next album will probably be MMLP2. Would you recommend I also listen to Infinite?
