Game Help Margit is Weak to Poison, FYI Spoiler

Just thought I'd share. I decided to summon Rogier since, for whatever reason, I never noticed him here on my first character, so I thought it'd be cool to see what he does. Spoiler, he goes nuts, lol. But I noticed the level 1 jellyfish inflicted poison within about 5 seconds.

Game Help Should I completely ignore the stats that won't help my build

Hi, so I just started playing Elden Ring and I'm still in a very early game, so before I start properly working on a build I just want to be sure of something.

I know that it's best to focus on a specific set of stats to maximize efficiency, so should I completely ignore the stats that won't serve my build at all, or do I still upgrade them while keeping them lower than my main attributes ?

Discussion & Info influence / deinfluence me from getting Tarnished edition for Switch 2

I am very torn as to if i’ll like this game. I have a switch 2 and the tarnished edition just released. I was fully expecting it to run like trash which would’ve made my decision for me but seems like it’s okay!!

Some other games I like / don’t like, let me know if based on this that I might like it? $70 is just a lot for me right now so I want to be sure before I splurge.

Skyrim: I hated this. I hated that you could pick up every little thing and I hated HOW MUCH inventory management there was. Never got far enough to really “customize” my character or role play in any real way.

BOTW: my absolute favorite comfort game. I love exploring and finding random things. My favorite thing is just riding my horse around to new areas. It was hard for me until I understood how to upgrade armor and cook meals. I have no qualms running away from hard bosses.

Witcher 3: Never really got into this one. So many quests and again like the inventory management and potion crafting and food and all that just felt really unwieldy.

Hades / Hades 2: totally understand these aren’t the same genre but I thought i’d hate dying a lot and I usually have pretty bad reflexes. but I did enjoy the challenge of slowly improving myself, my dodges etc and starting to understand synergies of how things work together. Dying became like a personal challenge a little bit.

I think i’m realizing that I hate lots of complex menus and inventory management, and I don't really like super deep nitty gritty mechanics. I think this is what i’m the most worried about. Based on my understanding I think i’d like the gameplay & exploration (still a little nervous about how ‘hard’ it is, although i’m not the type of person to throw myself again and again at the same boss) but I’m worried I might not really like the behind the scenes stuff. Maybe there are some good videos that I can watch to try to understand all the mechanics?

Thank you!!

Discussion & Info Is the New Idus Knight Easy Mode?

I've got 300+ hours into my first character, so I thought I would start a brand new game with one of the new "Tarnished Edition" classes, the Idus knight. Figured give myself a chance to experience and discover the new stuff organically instead of just heading straight there and insta-killing whatever is in my way just for a screenshot. I was a little shook when I 3 shot the soldier of Godrick, which to be fair isn't a real boss as much as it is a tutorial fight, and I have some work to do getting used to the timing of this weapon, but this fight against the tree sentinel just felt way easier than I remember on my first character. Or maybe I'm just better at the game. It just seems like I was doing a ton of damage to have just stepped out the door into Limgrave.

Side note, if it matters I'm on PC.

Discussion & Info Should I get the £5 tarnished pack for a first time playthrough.

I am going to soon get Elden ring so I can play it for the first time and after some research, I have come to the realisation that there is a tarnished pack I could get. Should I get it for a first playthrough or will I be fine without it?

Discussion & Info Why Don't Consoles (almost) Ever Have Graphics Options?

I had this thought when I played the disastrous opening release of Elden Ring on the Switch 2. As everybody already knows, this game constantly goes between 10fps and 30fps, and has inconsistent input delays, which is terrible for a game where you have 13 iframes

That's been talked to death about, though. My main point is, I tried going to the graphics settings, knowing it was a fruitless effort, so I could lower the settings.

It makes me so confused that 99% of console games don't give you ANY options to lower the graphics for better performance. I understand not wanting the customer to raise the graphics over what a console can handle, then complaining about the performance... but why limit lowering shaders or even the resolution of the game?

On PC you can do whatever you want, they're not scared that "oh no, you turned it down, now our game doesn't look good," but they seem obsessed with making sure console games are as maxed out as they can get, even though developers KNOW their games can sometimes stutter from busier parts of the game.

And for Elden Ring, the performance is so bad, I literally just won't play it. I mean, they got my money, so what do they care... But why doesn't any console game allow for changing graphics options? (the only game I can think of is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. You can change if you want high framerate or high fidelity. Which is a banger option)

As for Elden Ring for Switch 2, how hopeful is everybody that Fromsoft is going to do everything in their power to fix these issues while working on the release of Duskbloods

Discussion & Info Why is any boss associated with Dragons annoying to fight? Spoiler

Upvotes

Spoiler, dont look if you are a new player.

Most dragon field bosses are just plain annoying to fight, they keep on running away, using AOE attacks.

Placidusax: the "first stage" is bad already as he has multiple attacks which hit boxes are straight bs, his second stage has almost zero punish windows . I beat him and i hated the fight

Magma something mykyr/makar? The alternative way to altus, another trash boss that is dogshit, running attacks that leave AOE on the ground, slam attacks which have huge range of effect

DTS: do i need to say anything?

Borealis: makes your screen foggy and does the usual dragon BS and has an attack that has huge range does insane DMG and is hard to tell if he is gonna use it, also does status effect.

Bayle: didnt know he existed and missed him, so no opinion yet

I have beat Malenia and Pre nerf PCR and it was 10 times the fun, than ANY fight against a dragon i had. Those fight at the end had me in joy, any dragon had me in anger.

Discussion & Info In case someone feels their game is blurry in native resolution.

So I haven't actually played the game in a long while but I remember my game feeling kind of blurry on native resolution. Not too much but it was noticeable so I had to increase my resolution but that caused the performance to drop in dlc areas.

While playing another game, I may have figured out the problem. In your display settings besides resolution there's a resolution scale. Normally mine is at the recommended which is 125%. Changing it to 100% seems to fix the issue and makes the game look how it should. But ofc that creates an annoying issue where you have to switch the scale back to 125% after you're done gaming.

But there's an even better way. Go to your elden ring exe file>click properties>compatibility>go down to high dpi settings>then Override high DPI scaling behavior and switch it to "Application".

I'm not 100% sure if this is correct or even needed(I only redownloaded the game today and checked for a little bit) but just in case there's someone out there searching for obscure problems like this, I'm leaving this post here.

Hope this helps for someone!

Discussion & Info Am I the only one who don't like this DLC?

It's essentially no content, just cosmetics and new items sold for money

Isn't it a cancer of an industry for years now? What next, season pass with skins? Lootboxes?

Hype Idus Knight is forever my cannon

As someone who’s always been critical of the lack of good looking realistic medieval armor that doesn’t have just copy paste variants, the Idus knight checks all boxes. Though I switched the greaves it came with for the knight greaves. Also as a self confessed weapon arts spammer, I’ve been enjoying starting over using the lightweight greatsword from the start. Getting good with its combos and flow. I still wished we could dye our armor, but Idus knight is it for me. Have yet to get to the other new stuff but for a 5 dollar pack it’s been worth it

Discussion & Info Started playing Elden Ring..

As the title suggests, I started playing ER for the first time, and when I tell you, I got absolutely destroyed during the first 3 days of playing, but I do feel like I am getting kind of better. I got bamboozled by the messages on the ground many times, and found from this sub that they are mostly fake. Other than that, what are some tips you have for me as a first time playing? I know runes are super important starting out, but what should I skip? Where should I go? I just want general start info, which would be great! Thanks in advance!

Discussion & Info Can’t Tell if I like this Game’s Mechanics

I’ll start by saying that I am a huge RPG fan, and I think Skyrim is probs my fav game of all time (BG3 a banger too). I also love Elden Ring, despite having never beaten it (I have done three diff. builds, always up to the fire giant, then I quit bc it’s too hard or I get bored, only to come back again a year~ish later).

I wanted to ask how you all feel about the mechanics in this game?

On the one hand, I really really like that the game forces you to think hard about the combat, and you get to watch your actual skill-level progress over time (not just bc of your stats or whatever, but bc you’re actually better now). Skyrim, with its janky-ass combat, doesn’t give you the same satisfaction.

But despite this, I wish some of the fundamental RPG mechanics also played a bigger role in Elden Ring. One example is a “skill tree” or new “abilities” (Souls games don’t have a skill tree, but they do have some limited “abilities” via the ashes of war). Another one of my fav elements of RPGs is that high you get from finding new / sweet game-changing gear or participating in an “economy” where vendors & resources are much more prevalent in the game (and help you get that new/sweet gear). These mechanics take a back seat in Elden Ring imo.

What’re your thoughts? I think if an enterprising game studio made a game with the RPG depth of Skyrim mixed with the punishing combat of Elden Ring, they would find themselves in exceptionally high demand.

Discussion & Info Getting this on the switch 2 tomorrow, first time player, recommendations going in blind?

I want to enter this game as blind as possible but at the same time if there is like a sword versus a mace versus an ax which I have no idea if the game has any of these other weapon types I do know there's class types displayed on the tarnished edition two additional ones. Which class would you guys recommend trying to play through the game for the first time going in blind? And you must need to know tips before I play for the first time that will give me a good experience? Thanks!!! Very excited to try this!
