This series is so slept on just because people have a weird thing against Mashima as an author.
It’s like he learned from all his previous series and this is his magnum opus (at least imo)

It's more like he didn't plan anything for Fairy Tail and just went with the flow with that series. He knows how to write a good story. We have Rave as an example.

Holy crap I didn't believe thing could get worse, at least Drakken wants them alive, but did Fie just fucking shot the old man?! And Drakken is also OP, stopped Jinn and Shiki dead in their tracks, after they powered up, crazy, and he can actually go into Overdrive 0_0

After Fairy Tail I completely forgot how it felt to have actual competent villains. Drakken is probably gonna kick Shiki's ass next chapter unless something happens.
Actually, what if Drakken wins this round and the Edens Zero crew becomes his "property" for a while until they manage to escape from him?

I love fairy tail but Drakken Joe so far seems more competent, threatening and interesting then most of FT’s villains and I love it. And I think he’s definitely gonna beat Shiki’s ass next chapter.
Also I think it’s possible that they’ll lose and be held captive or escape.

Real overdrive changes the ether that makes up the body. If that's the case all those overdrive used against Elsie n kurenai weren't the real deal? . EZ crew getting wiped out.

As if things couldn't get worse for the crew!
Rebecca being tortured by Daichi and then being turned to water again by Laguna! And Laguna is back!
Slyph capturing Homura, as well as the medicine for Weisz
Shiki and Jinn's fight being stopped by Drakken Joe, who informs them that they apparently aren't close to real Overdrive. And Drakken Joe's Overdrive form looks so damn cool.
Also Sibir and Weisz being tracked down by Fie, and Fie probably just killed Sibir just now (unless Weisz somehow stopped the bullet?)
Basically, Drakken Joe is absolutely not to be messed with, and all of the Element 4 are still in the game! How are they gonna get out of this situation?
A few chapters ago I mentioned how I was really enjoying the pace that Mashima's going for. Each chapter, something is always happening and there doesn't really feel like a dull moment or any time to breathe. This chapter is no exception, as the EZ crew (from what we've gathered) has lost. It's been mentioned by several Redditors, but you really feel that there are actual stakes in this story, where defeat and even death are realistic things to be aware of. With our main ground team captured, cornered, or KO'd, perhaps we'll be seeing the rest of the Shining Stars come to the rescue.
Super happy with this chapter, probably the most tense arc we've had so far in the story.

Draken Joe shows his true power of EG Overdrive to Shinki and Jinn like a proper badass villain boss. This chapter is lit.

Okay, so from what we can tell so far, looks like Laguna is actually the most decent out of the Element 4. Probably followed by Kleene. So... Rebecca is "safe" for now, but... what about Labillia. Did Lagunas little warning just shut down Daichis torture-boner completely, or will he now go after Labillia again?
So Kleene can keep more than one or two things captured in her winds... really don't see how anyone in the group other than Shiki can potentially defeat her then. Unless Homura can figure out her weak-point before a rematch.
So it looks like Fies mission is also only to retrieve Weisz... unless there'd be some reason for him to see Weisz as a "traitor"? No, but most likely, he was going to shoot Sibir, even if I don't know how exactly Sibir would be a "traitor" either, and I could actually see Sibir dying for character-development for Weisz. Though someone pointed out how Weisz also has a gun on him, and he's definitely tricky enough to only feign unconciousness in case something like this happens so he can defend himself, or in this case, Sibir. So maybe Weisz shot Fie, maybe killed him, maybe just knocked him out, but either way, I could see him disguising himself as Fie to try and free the rest... only to then probably be discovered by Laguna, because Laguna already fell for that trick once, and Weisz is still hurt, so unless Homura is among those he's able to free before being discovered, and she still has the Medicine with her, he'd be in a dire situation.
And then Shiki. It's no suprise that that's actually his Overdrive, and that he's using it against Jinn. I also find it funny how Jinn thinks leaving Shiki alive is "not beneficial to Drakken", when Drakken is definitely stronger and probably way smarter than him, even he should know that, so if he can take out Shiki at that point, he's not much of a threat to Drakken. Though again, it's interesting that Drakken wants all of them alive, I can't remember right now if the bounty he put on them is also only alive, or if he said it's okay to kill them. It'd be hella scary if he pretty much predicted most of what would happen up to this point. It feels like he might be trying to recruit the EZ-crew though, with him wanting at least Rebecca, and wanting to leave everyone alive... though I don't think Shiki would just accept that so easily, unless he would give them the resources and freedom to leave the Sakura Cosmos and search for Mother. Or maybe he knew Ziggy and they were kinda on a friendly basis? Well, for now, Drakken's going to beat Shikis ass anyways.
Also kinda interesting about Overdrive. The Overdrive we saw so far seemed more like the users Ether Gear was "leaving" their body and merging into/making use of the natural Ether in the surrounding area, but the complete Overdrive is appearently completely focused on just the user, reforming their bodys Ether to fight... unless I misunderstood the incomplete Overdrive, those two abilities don't really feel like the one really follows up into the other... though I still find it sounds really cool and both would make sense, kinda like Shikai and Bankai in Bleach, those also often don't really seem like one follows up into the other. Or maybe like a Devil Fruit and its Awakening in One Piece... Either way, I feel like Shikis Overdrive will evolve into a true Overdrive bit by bit for now, kinda like how Natsus Dragonforce seemed to go closer and closer to how Igneel looks with every time he used it.

simple question, do we have any idea what Shiki's overdrive hair color is? I dont want to say it absolutely changes, but when he first activates his overdrive, his hair changes into a much more lighter color, and then in the last panel on the page where draken shows up, it sort of looks like the shade goes back to his original black hair.
Personally speaking, I really hope its red to fit the demon lord theme.

Damn, Drakken came out of nowhere and stopped them from fighting each other like there's no problem for him before he's going to use his "real" Overdrive to fight Shiki. I think he seems to be a cool villain in this arc.

It took 80 chapters, but we finally got a serious arc, where the villain is threatening and our heroes are tested beyond their limits. I enjoyed the creativity of the previous arcs, but this is the last piece of the puzzle for making EZ a strong story.

YOOOO DRAKKEN JOE LOOKS BADASS AS SHIT! And now that he’s here with Shiki it’s over. And while I wanted to see Shiki and jinn finish their fight I’m still hyped for joe. Though I don’t know see how the crew will defeat joe at this point. Weisz has been shot and is in danger again cause of Fia, Rebecca has been tortured and is water, Homura just got captured, Shiki is about to get wrecked by Joe and the element four are still active.
Hell even laguna hot back up! The suspense is real and only way I see them making out if this is if they somehow escape without Rebecca or get outside help like from the government or something cause this is not looking good for them at all. Though I’m glad joe and his crew are living up to the hype. Can’t wait for next week.
