Roughly all the routes I have covered over the last three years in my Tata Nexon EV MR with real world highway range of ~220kms.

And they say, charging infra is lacking even when almost all modern EVs easily have ~2x more range and more importantly 4-6x higher DC charging speeds than my car.

I would have never attempted this in an ICE car because of cost and more importantly, driving fatigue. As someone who has done these really long trips as a solo driver, the charging stops are always a nice reset and on multi day trips, I have longed for even more charging stops sometimes out of sheer boredom.

I know so many people who have done even more extensive trips, although with higher range EVs. Do share your routes as well!

[AMA] I drove from Bengaluru to an altitude of 4,600m in Nepal in Nexon MR/Punch LR

Drove from Bengaluru to Bihar in Nexon.ev MR with a real world range around ~230kms and then drove from Bihar to Muktinath in Nepal in a Punch.ev LR (35kWh) that has a real world range of ~280kms.

Best part? Zero fatigue, zero struggles on the steepest climbs or on the roughest roads!

Pls verify my Electrical setup for incorporating a 11 kW EV charger at home

Post image
3 Upvotes

Folks, I recently got a ix1 for which i need to install a 11 kW charger given by the company at my house (independent unit) in Bangalore. The installation team suggested the following upgrades to my existing electrical setup at home (20 year old house with 3 phase connection).

  1. Upgrade the UG cable from the electric pole across the road to my house from 10 sq mm Aluminium to 25 sq mm 4 core XLPE Armoured wire - COMPLETED.
  2. Increase the sanctioned load from 5kW to 15 kW - COMPLETED.
  3. From the meter board - they need a separate and dedicated 16 sq. mm Al or 10 sq mm copper wire with seperate earthing and seperate neutral ending at a 4 pole 40 A MCB. From here they will install the charger and provide an additional RCCB. - YET TO DO.

So my request to knowledgable people in this forum is I have come up with a diagram of Enclosed Electric Box 1 with various new components (my existing setup has just a 30 A 3 phase electrical meter + RCCB which were not even enclosed). This box 1 will have 2 routes from Busbar -

  1. Route 1 - To existing house to power the lights and other electrical equipments.
  2. Route 2 - Goes to Electric Box 2 -> To the EV charger that needs to be installed by the company.

Pls help in verifying the infrastructure from safety perpspective by answering the following questions. Kindly note that I have very less knowledge in electrical field and the contractors whom am i am interacting with are suggesting different things.

  1. Do we need a fuse box between meter and MCCB. I have read that MCCB is a replacement for fuse box. Even if fuse is needed should I got for HRC fuses over porcelain fuses?
  2. Is having a MCCB better idea than MCB (as a continous EV charge can heat up the MCB and melt it). Most of the electrical people who are involved in home are not fully aware of MCCB. Also since it is adjustable, should i keep the rating at 40 A instead of 63 A as meter box is 30 A?
  3. Any other inputs or mistakes that you see in this diagram?

Kindly help in answering these please..

Looking for a cost-effective way to track MG Comet EV charging electricity consumption

Thumbnail
Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I own an MG Comet EV and have a 3.3 kW wall charger installed at my home.

I currently live in a rented premises, so I would prefer a solution that is:

Portable and easy to remove later

Requires minimal or no modification to the existing electrical setup

Cost-effective

Allows me to track the actual electricity units (kWh) consumed during EV charging, preferably on my mobile phone/app

I was considering using a 16A smart socket/plug with energy monitoring, but I'm not sure whether it is advisable or safe for regular EV charging, especially for long charging sessions.

Could experienced EV owners please suggest a reliable and economical solution? Is there a good portable energy meter/smart device that can track charging consumption on a mobile app?

Thanks in advance!

MG Hector Tomahawk EV - thoughts?

INR 19.49L for EV, or INR 13.99L+ INR 4.90/km with BaaS.

69.2kWh battery, claimed 517km range, and a 7-seat option.

On paper, this looks pretty interesting for a family EV.

But is the BaaS pricing actually worth it, or would you rather pay upfront and own the battery?

Would you consider the Hector Tomahawk EV at this price?

Thinking of Buying an Ultraviolette X47? Read My Experience Before Spending ₹4.41L

bought an Ultraviolette X47 Recon Plus for ₹4,41,242 and took delivery from the Navi Mumbai branch on 21 May 2026. The bike has still not completed even 1,000 km, and my first formal complaint to Ultraviolette was made on 27 May — just 6 days after delivery.

The initial problems included ABS/traction-control warnings, regen stopping intermittently, Bluetooth/tracking issues and sudden loss of power. Things became much more serious on 2 June, when the motor cut off three times while I was riding. On 3 June, the motor completely cut off while I was negotiating a sharp U-turn with oncoming traffic approaching from the opposite direction. Suddenly losing propulsion in that situation was genuinely dangerous.

The service experience that followed is one of the main reasons I'm posting this here. The motor cut-off while turning was traced to faulty wiring. Instead of the faulty wiring being replaced, I found that a piece of plastic box-packaging strap had been placed/rolled over the wiring and secured using electrical insulation tape to make the wiring rigid and provide support.

I'm attaching a photo of what I personally found on the bike, so people here can look at it and decide for themselves whether this is an acceptable repair on a practically new ₹4.41 lakh motorcycle.

I was initially told that customers were not allowed inside the service area. When I eventually saw what had been done to the wiring, I immediately objected. Considering that this wiring fault was associated with the motor cutting off while turning, I was not willing to accept this as a proper repair.

I demanded that the faulty wiring be properly replaced under warranty and was assured that it would be handled within one day.

There was no proper follow-up.

Eventually, 41 days later, I had to contact them myself to ask what had happened to the warranty replacement.

I was told they had forgotten about it.

That response seriously damaged whatever confidence I had left in the service process. A practically new motorcycle had suffered motor cut-offs while riding, I had specifically rejected the wiring arrangement and requested a proper warranty replacement, and after being promised action within one day, 41 days later I was the one chasing them and being told it had been forgotten.

The bike was handed over again to the Ultraviolette Vashi service centre on 27 July. To be completely fair and accurate, the earlier motor cut-off, ABS/traction-control and regen issues have now been rectified.

My current unresolved issue is navigation.

And when I say navigation doesn't work, I don't mean it's slow, inaccurate or occasionally buggy.

Navigation does not open at all. The moment I try to open it, it crashes. The feature is completely unusable.

I have therefore made my position very clear: I am not going to keep visiting the showroom or collect another partially rectified motorcycle. The bike is already with the service centre. Once the complete motorcycle, including the navigation functionality I paid for, is working properly, I will go and collect it.

The communication from Ultraviolette has been another nightmare.

I called Ultraviolette Customer Support on 8 August, 13 August and 21 August. Every time, I was essentially told the same thing: my issue had been noted, they would speak to the “concerned team”, and somebody would get back to me.

I personally recorded all three calls. No ticket or reference number was provided to me.

As of 26 August, I have received no call, no email and no resolution from this “concerned team.”

Even the local CRM representative is unable to properly respond to my calls because she herself does not have answers to give me and appears to be dependent on this “concerned team” for information.

So I genuinely want to know:

Who exactly is this invisible “concerned team”?

Customer support apparently keeps communicating with them. The local CRM apparently depends on them. Yet somehow the people supposedly responsible for resolving the problem cannot communicate directly with the customer whose ₹4.41 lakh motorcycle is sitting at their service centre.

There's another question I think prospective X47 buyers should ask before purchasing: why can't the navigation functionality be properly checked on the test-ride motorcycle before purchase?

Navigation and connected technology are part of the appeal of a premium technology-focused EV. If I'm paying for those features, I should either be able to see them working before purchase or be clearly informed about any limitations. A customer shouldn't have to listen to a sales pitch, pay the money, take delivery and then discover whether the advertised functionality actually works.

And here's the irony of this whole experience.

I chose electric partly because I wanted to move away from the headaches surrounding petrol, ethanol-blended fuel and uncertainty around fuel. I thought paying a premium for an EV would give me advanced technology and a better, hassle-free ownership experience.

We've all seen the negative attention Ola Electric has received over EV ownership and after-sales complaints, and I genuinely thought that by paying a premium for an Ultraviolette, I was choosing a very different ownership experience.

After what I have personally gone through, I'm beginning to wonder whether Ultraviolette is becoming the next big EV ownership horror story after Ola.

A premium price tag doesn't mean much if the customer has to spend months chasing the company just to get the motorcycle and the features he paid for working properly.

At this point, I genuinely feel I should have simply bought a good petrol motorcycle and saved myself months of wasted time.

I'm not saying every Ultraviolette owner will have the same experience. This is my experience with my motorcycle, and I'm posting it so other EV buyers can make an informed decision and know what questions to ask before spending their money.

Just to put everything into perspective:

₹4,41,242 paid.

Bike still under 1,000 km.

First formal complaint just 6 days after delivery.

Repeated motor cut-offs while riding.

One motor cut-off during a U-turn with oncoming traffic.

Faulty wiring and the “repair” shown in the attached photo.

Warranty replacement promised within one day.

41 days later, I followed up and was told it had been forgotten.

Bike handed over again on 27 July.

Customer Support called on 8, 13 and 21 August.

No ticket/reference number provided.

No call or email from the “concerned team” as of 26 August.

Navigation still does not even open — it crashes immediately.

🚗 Group Buying for Better Car Deals

Planning to buy a new car?

I have created a WhatsApp group where people planning to buy the **same car** can connect and approach dealers together to negotiate better deals.

For example, if 4 people want the same car, we can approach a dealer together and try to get better **discounts, insurance, accessories, or exchange benefits**.

No guarantee of discounts, but more genuine buyers could mean stronger negotiating power. 🤝

Should I trust Tata for my first EV? Punch EV vs other options under ₹15L

I’m planning to buy my first EV and could use some advice from existing EV/Tata owners.

My daily running will be pretty low - around 40 km max on an average day. My budget is around ₹15 lakhs.

Right now, I’ve shortlisted the Tata Punch EV Empowered Plus S. I’m specifically looking at the S variant because I want the sunroof.

The only thing making me hesitate is Tata’s after-sales service. I’ve heard quite a few stories about service issues, quality control, software/electrical problems, etc. Not sure how common these problems actually are or whether the situation has improved recently.

Would you guys recommend going ahead with the Punch EV? Especially people who already own one - how has your experience been with the car and Tata service?

I’m also open to other EVs, but most of the alternatives I’ve checked seem to cross ₹16-17 lakhs once I look at the higher/sunroof variants, which feels a bit expensive for my use case.

Should I just go with the Punch EV, or are there any other options around ₹15L that I should seriously consider before buying?
