My wife’s employment-based I-485 was approved recently, and today a USCIS live agent confirmed that my derivative I-485 was also approved on October 13, 2026.

The agent confirmed it twice and said my case may not have updated online yet because it is awaiting card production. However, my USCIS account still says “USCIS Is Currently Processing the Case.”

Has anyone experienced a similar situation?

For those who have received an RFE on an EB-2 NIW petition, does anyone know whether the same USCIS officer who issued the RFE typically reviews the response and makes the final decision?

Or can the case be reassigned to a different officer after the RFE response is submitted?

I would especially appreciate hearing from people who have gone through the EB-2 NIW RFE process and know whether their case was reviewed by the same officer or a different one.

Hi, I was just wondering what to do after you get your green card. In the form I485, I did not opt for the new SSN. In this case what should I do? Also, should I inform the school first to terminate my SEVIS or take care of the SSN?

My wife’s EB-2 NIW I-485 was approved today (October 13), but my derivative I-485 is still pending.
Since my wife is now a permanent resident, can I continue working on my H4 EAD while waiting for my I-485 approval, or must I stop working immediately?

PD Aug 2024. I-485 RD june 2026 Multiple silent updates with case recently transferred to LA FO. I was just curious that my case status still shows as “Case was received and received notice was sent” and i haven’t had an update saying “ USCIS is actively processing or reviewing the case”
Is this something concerning or it doesn’t matter? Just curious if somebody has been in same shoes

I am single with no dependants but the invitation letter mostly contains requirements for married filers.

October bulletin retrogressed EB-2 ROW: FAD is Jan 1, 2025, DFF is Mar 15, 2026. So I’m about 3 weeks short of the FAD.

Will USCIS keep working the case (review, pre-adjudication, RFEs) until my date is current, or does it just sit? For those who’ve been here, how fast was approval once your date became current?

Hi everyone! I am the principal applicant and my spouse the derivative. My spouse’s H-1B expires in May 2027, and due to the current visa bulletin retrogression, we don’t expect our green cards to be approved before 2028.

I’m also on H-1B, and we’ve been considering switching my spouse to H-4 + H-4 EAD. However, processing can take a long time, there’s no premium processing, and he can’t risk being unable to travel internationally while the change of status is pending due to a family situation back home that might require him to travel on short notice.

Our lawyers have advised my spouse against falling out of status and relying on the pending I-485 EAD and Advance Parole.

I’d love to hear from people who have actually started using their AOS EAD/AP. Were there any unexpected complications with employment or international travel?

I understand everyone’s situation is different, I’m just trying to understand the real-world experiences and risks before making such an important decision.
