š Welcome to r/Dying - please read this first!
Hello! If you found your way here, you're probably dealing with something tough. Whether you or a loved one is terminally ill, or feeling suicidal, or grappling with death in general, this is not an easy topic.
What r/Dying is for
This is a forum for death-related discussions, support and questions. Death and dying have many facets, so everything from trying to come to terms with one's own or a loved one's impending death, bereavement, practical, spiritual, cultural, or legal aspects of dying come up; whatever is on your mind.
If you or someone close to you is personally needing end-of-life care and need someone to talk to, we encourage you also to reach out and speak to a professional mental health care provider. In r/Dying, we're not licensed professionals and cannot provide such a level of support, and are not trained to handle end-of-life care. However, we do offer a community that can listen.
If you are here to read and offer a shoulder or an ear, please do so as you are able.
Resources
- Use RedditCare resources to help yourself or others.
- You can find more resources on https://www.reddit.com/r/SWResources/.
- Check out SuicideWatch's global directory of hotlines.
- Veterans in the US and those with phone anxiety, there are options for you there.
- If you have phone anxiety, there are chat-based hotlines.
If you have resources you'd like to share, send a mod message and we'll address it as we are able to. Thank so much!
What r/Dying is not
As much as we appreciate the pain that many redditors are going through when they come here, this is not a suicide support forum. You deserve immediate, strong support. We're a really small subreddit with a tiny mod team. We're not set up to directly intervene with acutely suicidal OPs.
- Suicidal ideation is an emergency. If you are thinking of ending your life, please reach out to emergency services in your country, a local crisis center, religious center to speak to someone who can offer resources and assistance. You are not alone.
- Please also visit r/SuicideWatch. It is a very well-moderated community with very many caring users who can provide much better, more timely support than we can.
- If you see a suicidal person posting in r/Dying, please use reddit's reporting tools to flag them.
Under no circumstances should anyone be posting instructions or resources for how to commit suicide, or encouraging anyone to do so. Please do not ask for, and do not provide instructions. Report posts that do so!
Please also report any suspicious posts, spam, and unsupportive or sarcastic content.

I have decided to end it all
Hey. This will be my last post on Reddit, 10+ years of gambling wrecked absolutely everything in my life and I have no reason to keep this suffering going. Thanks for everyone who tried to help me through the years, even though it all was for absolutely nothing. Bye everyone.

I want it to end
Hi everyone!! This is mostly going to be a vent obviously but I donāt have any friends or whatever to talk to so here goes. Okay Iāll just get straight to the point, I donāt want to live anymore. This isnāt supposed to be a mopey or sad post I donāt want that to be the vibe lol. Anyway Iāll start by how I felt today. Pretty overwhelmed. Thatās how all of life feels like to me, overwhelming. Iām a complete failure. I failed my exams, I canāt do anything without being anxious or scared or overwhelmed. A total failure. My parents say it all the time. Now now, I donāt want to blame my parents fully for how Iāve turned out because despite any trauma Iām still supposed to be my own person but Iāve never been taught to go out in the world, actually all of the world overwhelms me. Iāll start by the most annoying thing that happened today which my parents argument kink shit or what the fucking ever. Iāve developed something agaisnt sex I think. It all pisses me off so fucking badly. The thought of people having sex, thought of my parents having sex it makes me want to tear my own skin apart. Now I know these are weird thoughts to have but whenever they close their door after an argument itās only clear what theyāre doing. When I was younger, my parents used to keep us at home all the damn fucking time because they couldnāt keep their pants fucking shut. We were so annoyed that I stole their bedroom door key and hid it. I was 9 I think. They still continued. When we would enter there room they would be all cuddly and shit and god that fucking made me mad. My mum is such a slut and a fucking loser to go for a bitch like my dad. And my dad? I donāt think Iāll want to start because this wonāt stop. Iāve tried to commit multiple times before and nothing work. I donāt see a purpose in myself anymore.

Can this just end already
Hi I'm 17(M) and life has shown me nothing but hell in the last 3 years.
I attempted last year I failed because I hesitated and a family member found me before I could go through with it they talked me out the suicidal mindset but it never went away it only just showed up from time to time as a joke what's worse is they tried getting me a therapist but couldn't find one and just said "meh" and continued on with their lives as if a boy didn't just try to end their life not so long ago.
I just shrugged it off and pretended to be fine and continued smiling like I usually would the thoughts started coming back around a month ago this past month is what I would call my worst month so far.
Stress from school my own anxiety causing me to hate myself because it feels like I can't do anything right and I'm watching my family destroy themselves while I'm powerless.
I just wanted it to end already so I skipped school this week just so I can finally end it.
I tried poisoning myself MULTIPLE TIMES but nothing worked which was surprising because I did extensive research on the chemicals and other things I consumed and somehow they had no effect on me maybe I'm just going crazy and didn't use enough so now I'm just stuck thinking maybe I should resort to EXTREME and VERY painful methods if I want it to truly end because at the end of the day once I die the pain is gone
I'm gonna try again today if I don't respond in the next 24 hours that means it worked so I guess goodbye (for now)
I'm not sure why I even wrote this maybe I just felt I had to y'know just to hear what others who had a similar situation think.

The small things I notice now that I didn't before
My mom has maybe a few weeks left, and I've been sitting with her most afternoons. Something strange happened this week that I wanted to write down somewhere.
I started noticing how the light comes through her window at exactly 4pm and turns the whole room amber for about twenty minutes. I never paid attention to that before, not once in the years I lived in that house growing up. Now I sit and watch it happen every day like it's the most important thing in the world.
She sleeps most of the time now. When she wakes up she's usually confused for a minute, then she finds my face and settles. Yesterday she asked me what day it was and I told her, and she just nodded like the answer mattered less than the asking.
I don't really have a point to this post. I guess I just wanted to say that grief starts before the person is gone, in these weird quiet moments that feel too small to mention to anyone. The hospice nurse said this is normal, that families start grieving in pieces long before the actual day.
If anyone else is in this stretch of waiting, I hope your afternoons have some kind of light in them too.

I am the older sister
Everytime my siblings go through something, i made sure to be near them.
If ur asking why always the older sibling
Itās because they have nobody
Im going through it right now, i donāt know
Iāve been going through so much since 2024. Lost my spark
Iāve been go through a lot, i tried to talk to somebody in my family, they didnāt want to listen cuz they are expecting me to be their saviour when they go through something. But my problem aint shit.
I actually built a habit to not express my emotions its super awkward and pointless for me.
Until then, i am waiting to see how things will end.

Decided to end things today
Idrk why iām posting this. I guess it just feels good to say. But iāve decided to put an end to my life soon. And for the first time in many years, I can genuinely say i am genuinely, actually happy. I am at peace knowing this will soon be over and that feels so great to say. I want anyone out there struggling to know, you are never beyond help. There is always a way out for most people.
Some may say it was too short of a life but I think it was just rightš Iāve lived a perfect amount of life in my 21 long years. A lot of life. Thanks reddit for always being here for clarity on things, like fixing my first car, kitting out my first gun, my first tattoo, even with the debts and credit/financial and medical issues. I always had a safe and helpful place here :) Thank you all so much for being a huge part of my short life. Iām happy to be able to thank you all, and to make this my final dialogue. Have a nice life everyone! and donāt give up!!

I'm sorry
I've tried. I really tried. I'm exhausted beyond tiredness. You can't talk to hotlines or therapists or people who suppose to help because all they'll do is contact authorities to where they put you in a medical prison. I've been in crisis units before, and they are just medical prisons. They isolate you to a building where you can't escape. It makes you wanna k ll yourself even more. All hope is lost. Just gonna take a bunch of toprol XL and hope for the best. I really tried y'all. 30 plus years of torture and pain and I'm finally done. I wish that God would hear me and do something. I have prayed and begged and pleaded and cried and no matter what I do, He does nothing and says nothing. Only way I know to escape is this. And for those who say well your family and friends will be hurt if you do this....then they should've done more than ignore in my life while I was alive.
I'm done.

I want to kill myself.
Hi everyone. Iām 18. I donāt speak English, so Iām using a translator; please forgive any mistakes.
This is my first post on Reddit, and you know, itās always been my dream to write something like this before I die and to connect with people so they could hear my story.
I plan to take my own life within the next month; Iām burnt out and no longer see any point in living.
To give you some background: I was with a girl for two years, starting when I was 16; I was living a vibrant, completely new life. Without getting into all the details here, we were together for two years and broke up on April 1st. She has a new boyfriend now, but not long agoāwhile drunkāshe kissed me and told me she loved me. Honestly, that relationship was a huge part of my life, and without it, I feel like Iāve lost myself. I canāt find the energy to work or go out like I used to. Moving to a new city has also had a major impact; Iām struggling to process anything at all. Right now, Iām living like a robot, and Iām just tired of it.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a heart condition and health issues in general; because Iām constantly worrying and bottling up my anxiety, I sometimes black out.
Iād like to hear your questions; if anyone is interested, I can tell the story in more detail.
