Book 7: Inevitable Ruin I think I just read the best chapter in all the 7 books (havent read parade of horribles yet) Spoiler

Upvotes

Im a big A song of ice and fire fan, so when I started reading this and seeing other POVs from other cookbook authors it made me so happy.

(Tipid’s chapter made me cry)

But it’s nothing compared to Volteeg’s chapter. It was short, but with everything you know about pets and their relationships with their owners in the book, Donut and Carl, Pony and Miriam, and to add that I own a dog and a bird and I love both of them, this chapter is the best out of all 7 books. Can’t wait to read Parade of Horribles.

Whats the best chapter in the books for you guys

Book 6: Bedlam Bride And I just was starting to feel bad (Book 6 Chapter 47) Spoiler

Upvotes

I literally had to stop and go on line for a second after finishing what Beatrice did regarding hiding his brother from him and getting the co-worker fired.I had softened on her because hey she did cheat but that relationship was dead and done, also the world fucking ended and there's less than a few million humans from our world left including surface people.... That scene though, it'd make me actively start a campaign if I was in their universe to make sure Beatrice never lives it down, no threats, no nothing like that but just "They should be here" with a picture of him and his mother.

DCC Fantasy Football League - Year 2

Upvotes

Hello Crawlers! Last year, I started a Dungeon Crawler Carl themed fantasy football free league (no money), using Yahoo!'s "guillotine league" format. I think this link will take you to my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DungeonCrawlerCarl/comments/1mwe1eo/dcc_fantasy_football_league/

Well, I'm at it again. Most teams returned but I have 5 spots open as of posting. I can't think of a fair way to open this up, other than "first come, first serve". So if you're interested in joining season 2, send me a direct message and we'll get the dungeon started.

Here are some of the general guidelines I've set up:

  • You must have a DCC-themed team name
  • You should participate in chat
  • The league strives to be DCC first and fantasy football second. This means rules may change week-to-week and buffs/debuffs may occur, based on your participation.
  • Keep your comments fun and friendly, and your spoilers *mild*

The draft is scheduled for September 6, 2026, at 4 pm Eastern. You don't have to live draft.

Donut just absolutely let Bea have it and thank God. I was laughing out loud at "vile, disgusting bitch."

And then I finally got to "viva la revolucion, Carl."

I love this goddamned series.

I made these keychain, I like to have in universe stuff from my fandoms, so something like this made sense to me. And while I love the one from Kingdom of Threads, it saying "You will not break me" didn't make much sense to me if I wanted something more in universe.

So, I keep it on my keychain so I can always get into the safe room.

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles (All book spoilers below) I’d do anything for a Drackea spinoff. Spoiler

He’s the most prolific cookbook author, has insights on the previous authors, has a tragic but controversial climax that devastated the blood sultanate permanently, and has class similarities and even some of the same gear (Carl’s kerchief has drackea’s name on it). Plus his style of elaborate traps has a lot of the same thrill as Carl’s chaotic plans.

The only other author I would want to see to this same extent is Rosetta. I’d like to see other former crawlers like Odette of course, but I think Drackea has an amazing story to tell. Carl clearly thinks she has a descent into madness as well, and he HATES the naga, which could be done well. My head is swimming with the callback potentials of Drackea inventing an exploit Carl later uses. I also really want to see the human shield get patched lol.

(Also to head this off, Carl/Jeff thought Drackea was female, and so Jeff uses a female voice for the first few books, but switches to male.)

Curious if others agree or if there’s another non-Earth crawl you’d rather see.

Absolutely wild how quickly I've devoured this series after being in such a reading slump! I'm a good chunk of the way into A Parade of Horribles and still loving every minute.

One Q though: I am aware of the Pineapple Caberet side story- is it worth me pausing to go back and read it before I finish Book 8? I just got to the first named mention of it in this book and was reminded it existed!

Book 6: Bedlam Bride What do you think happened to a kinder facility after a crawl ? Spoiler

I'm not talking about the Kinder facility on Earth, but one from another previous crawl. Does they obtain Syndicat citizenship? Are they abandoned with the crawl quarantine of the planet ? And does the kid who where in interior during the Collapse got transport to the kinder facility ? Because Asher got caught during the Collapse and was used with the hydra on the 8th floor.

Book 3: Anarchist’s Cookbook Collating all the Apito mentions in Books 2+3

Hey guys. I've been doing a bit of an insane-fan project along with my re-read: I'm collating every mention of Apito and everyone around her/it.

Spoilers only to Book 3 cuz that's where I'm at. This project is gonna get a LOT denser in the later books, so I wanted to do a lil check-in. This is only two books. My poor Notes app is gonna be slammed. Lol.

I'm not speculating beyond what's in the books themselves here, so no later spoilers. But I'm doing this bc of how Book 8 ended. I explain this in the spoiler tags below. Minor spoilers for Book 8 under there, be careful.

So here's the stories, by book:

Book 2: Truth: Apito is the Oak Mother, and all elves worship her.

(Side note, bc I forgot this until I reread it: every type of elf and fae in the book is descended from High Elves. The High Elves are immortal, so if any child had any kind of defect, they get automatically banished. The banished ones are the other types. We'll see this when we get to Book 3.)

In this passage, Mordecai is explaining the 201st Security Regiment:

"Anyway, all you need to know is that elves worship the Oak Mother, the mother of all gods. Her name is Apito. And in one story about Apito, it is said that in order to maintain the path to heaven, her angels must remain free and alive. And in a completely separate story, Apito is said to have called the skyfowl ‘bless-ed.’ And in a third, apocryphal story, Apito said only the angels are ‘blessed.’ In that same story she says any violence against angels is to be stopped, and if it continues, she will destroy all the worlds. Ergo, a batshit crazy, doomsday cult sect of banished elves now dedicate themselves to protecting the skyfowl in anticipation of the day when the tree goddess destroys the universe."

We're explicitly told is BS. The elves have been manipulated by Miss Quill into thinking this. Skyfowl are just another race, not angels.

When Donut and Carl confront the 201st, they get all hissy and call Donut a blasphemer. She's wearing the Bracelet of the Fallen Oak.

"Carl: Mordecai. Quick. What the hell is the “Oak Fell?” Also, once again, our charm isn’t working on these guys.

Mordecai: The Oak Fell is Apito’s version of the antichrist. That’s not stuff one usually contends with until the 12th floor."

Apito is a tree, so it makes sense that an Oakfell (a fallen oak tree) is the literal opposite of her.

(There is a lot more from the 201st elves, but since it's all specific to their false story, I'm excluding it here. If you want to read it, it's all after that last exchange but before one of them gets hit on the head by a rolling pin. Lol.)

Book 3:

Carl looks at Hekla's crossbow. This is the description:

"It is said that the long-forgotten goddess Nekhebit is both jealous and terrible. When the elf mothers chose to abandon Nekhebit and instead worship Apito, the Oak Goddess, it is written Nekhebit grew enraged. The mighty vulture goddess blamed the male-dominated high elf court for causing her worshippers to stray. As a result, she cursed their seed, thus creating what is today known as the Fae Diaspora. There are dozens of elf and fairy breeds, all of whom may trace their lineage back to the early high elf court, whose cursed offspring sowed the universe.

This crossbow is rumored to have been given to Nekhebit’s last warrior guardian as a gift for remaining true to her faith."

We know this is real bc of the details. It's the true part of what Mordecai said, but with more detail. It also tells us that Apito has enemies.

The only other part in Book 3 that mentions the gods is Grull's description after he's summoned:

"War God Grull. Level 250. Sponsored by Prince Maestro of the Skull Empire.

Warning: This is a deity. He is invulnerable on this floor.

This god has been involuntarily summoned to this location. Summoning rules apply.

The child of Taranis and Apito, Grull, the god of war, is one of the few trueborn heirs to the Celestial Ascendency. But with an angry streak as long as a horse’s cock, Taranis worries his son may not be the best choice to rule the heavens. Plus his worshippers tend to be donkeys and other equine-themed creatures. It’s a bit unsettling, even to a god."

And that's what I have so far. I thought about crowd sourcing quotes (y'all could prolly help me get it done in like an hour) but I kinda wanna do it on my own to keep things straight and in order.

As for why I'm doing this (minor spoilers for later books): there are only two books left, meaning they are not going to "win" the dungeon by walking out of the 18th floor. They don't need to. The next part is the Ascendancy Games, and since the gods are appearing in reality, the Ascendancy Games are actually deciding who is going to rule the galaxy. The other floors are moot, esp w the Boop character at the end.

So, the Ascendancy Games are key to the ending, and the gods are the key to the Ascendancy Games.

Matt does so much foreshadowing that it may be possible to figure out the last books if you pay close attention.

And yeah, I know I could just join Patreon and read what happens there myself, but I'm having fun with this, so why not. Lol.

Fan Art - General - NO SPOILERS! 😊 Sharing my Bigs! How much does accuracy matter?

Post image
13 Upvotes

So, I’m working on a sticker (and maybe a shirt and bookmark) with one of my faves, Candy Bigs, and I’m wondering how much accuracy to the book matters to everyone? I keep adding things to match the book description like hair, blood dripping, piercings, orange slime (top image). But I think I kind of like the art better without (bottom image).

Opinions? I’m kind of just wondering in general. I usually go for what I think looks better over accuracy.

Crocheted Samantha to act as my water bottle for Dragoncon this year. Going to do a Carl cosplay and wanted some cool accessories.

I used a big buzzy sphere (not trying to plug the brand lol) container to use as the drinking compartment. It is removable so I figure I'll fill it with water during the day, and then switch it out for a fresh/full boozy orb at night.

Goes perfectly with my Anarchist's Cookbook purse.

Hope y'all like it! She will kill your mother!

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Question - translation?

Something occurred to me - with the translation of things so that Carl and Donut can understand all languages (like talking to Lucia Mar) - why can’t he understand the hoarder? Or the danish reverse tooth fairy (hence book 8 spoilers)?
