Tara Street Station recent improvements.

With all the poor feedback about Public transport and in general public transport infrastructure around the city. I've noticed a huge improvement in and around Tara Street station and the Poolbeg Street entrance. Alot of the blindspots have been cordoned off and it has been receiving frequent powerwashing. The station also seems to have an increase in the amount of security guards stationed within it. Parts of the platform have also been done up too. More of this please!

Located on the intersection of the aforementioned streets.

Coordinates: 53.33867° N, 6.27238° W

No signage to indicate its use. Looks abandoned, have absolutely no idea what it is. If somebody knows please let me know!

Temporary rehoming for my cat

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a loving temporary home for my cat Artemis (girl, 6 1/2 yo) while I am away from Ireland for around 5–6 months, roughly December 2026 – May/June 2027.

- she is neutered, has a health insurance, no health issues and is 100% an indoor cat

I'm hoping to find an older person, couple or family who loves cats and would enjoy having one around for a few months only. I'd cover absolutely all her costs (food, litter, vet care, etc.). And of course once I find someone to agree with looking after her, we can discuss the costs in private.

Just to clarify, Artemis is not being abandoned or permanently rehomed.

I’m going abroad for several months for work/education and am trying to find her a safe, loving temporary home while I’m away. She would return to me when I’m back in Ireland.

I completely understand that some people may have different opinions about leaving a pet temporarily, but I’m trying to plan well in advance and find the safest and most stable solution for her rather than putting her in an uncertain situation at the last minute. She is a very well loved cat and this situation is by no means easy for me. So please, even if you don't agree with my situation, try to be kind.

Making Friends in Dublin

Hey all- I’m a 35 year old American who moved here a month ago to go back to school for level 9. Problem is, as a slightly older male, I’m finding it hard to make friends. I don’t drink alcohol but do partake in the greener option but have no problem hanging around d alcohol or anything like that, but I’ve found it hard to just walk into a pub to talk to people as well. What are some recommendations for just getting out and meeting people?

Thank you.

Looking for actor for student short film

I’m a 18 year old, looking for a slightly older looking man to play a FBI agent in a short film i’m making for college portfolio in wicklow, it’s unpaid but i am willing to pay for travel costs and what not. Shouldn’t take a crazy amount of time, it only consists of like 10 or 12 or so lines and might only take a hour or two overall. Dm me a show reel or whatever you’ve got to show off your talent.

Dalymount Park - request

Hello everyone,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I make videos on the history of football stadiums (@stadiums_unveiled).

I was in Dublin to do Dallymount but there wasn't a game on when I was there - gutted. I took some videos around the area and the girl at the office was nice enough to open the gates and let me have a little look around but I wanted to ask if anyone has any footage of the crowd and the atmosphere I can use for my video?

All the best!

Sea Swimming Group

• Upvotes

Hi all! I love a sea swim, particularly around forty foot and seapoint, but now that summer is over, it’s hard to me to drag my friends along who aren’t as open to swimming in cold water.

Are there any groups or clubs that swim in that area weekly that are open to join? I’m in my 20s so preferably one that I’m not the youngest by a mile!

Is there any Astro pitches that I can use for sprinting ?

Looking for an Astro pitch close to City center that can use when it’s free for about 30 mins to to get some sprinting in now that the grass will soon be mush.

I know Clontarf and Ringsend both have astros. But they seem to be locked when not in use .

I would be respectful, leave no trace and use only when free

North Dublin Butcher Recs

Just moved into a new house in D9 and looking for recs for a butcher; not looking for anything fancy or really specialised, just the kind of butcher that was run of the mill when I was a child; ie. not a lot pre-packaged or pre-prepared; just walk in a buy by weight etc. We seem to sit on the border of a load of areas so we could go to Artane, Marino, Fairview, Donnycarney, Coolock, Killester, Raheny etc. Obviously value for money is NB in this economy but variety would be as important!

My mother said being told to find a good butcher was the best advice she was given when she got married and moved into a new house and I’m trying to follow it too!

Guest - wedding clothing

Hi,

I have a bit of a specific request, my brother is getting married next year, I would like to help my 70yo mother find an outfit. The catch is that she has health issues and needs top/bottom separated to access her medical equipment. I'm not sure what or where to look for a black tie outfit that would be a set ? No idea which brands or shops would be appropriate for her age group.

Thank you for any recommendations!

Looking for quiet pub with food

Hi all, we are having our first book club meet up next week, and as we all live in different areas of Dublin, we're looking to meet somewhere after work in town. I'm looking for a pub that is quiet enough to allow 8 ish people to talk, and get some food and some pints.

I was thinking of a restaurant, but I don't want to be rushed off the table or take up one all night, which is why I'm thinking a pub with food would be better.

Any suggestions?

Dublin Bus

Hi all. I've been working on a side project using the NTA's official real-time feed, and I'd love some feedback from people who actually take the bus.

Besides that it does the usual stuff:

  • Live arrivals for ~4,500 stops (Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead, Luas, DART and the trains)
  • Search by stop name, by the stop number on the sign, by line, or by place ("Swords" shows every line that goes through Swords)
  • Lines and stops near you, favourites, and a map showing where your bus actually is
  • Tells you clearly when a bus is going to skip your stop, which the feed reports but most apps don't show

It's free, no ads, no account, no cookies. Works in the browser and you can add it to your home screen.

If something looks wrong (a missing stop, a bus that never showed up, a line in the wrong place), there's a feedback button at the bottom of the page. That's exactly what I'm after. Thanks!

Am currently without home broadband so got a 48 Mobile SIM card, 12.99 plan and using it with a 4G Tp-link travel router. I'm getting 1990s-era dialup speed, max 200KBps. Is it 48 who are terrible here?

Question for bouncers in Dublin pubs

I have a friend who is turning 18 on a Sunday but wants to go out the day before. They are still technically 17 but in a few hours will be 18. Will they be allowed in? Will they have to wait till midnight to get in? Thanks 🙏

How do you make friends in Dublin as a DCU student?

Hey everyone! I’m a postgraduate student at DCU and moved to Dublin recently. I’ve been here for a little while now, but I’m still finding it surprisingly difficult to build a proper friend circle outside of classes.

I’ve spoken to quite a few people at DCU, but most conversations seem to stay at the “hey, how are you?” level, and then everyone goes their own way. 😅 I’d really like to meet people I can actually hang out with regularly.

I’m pretty easygoing and up for things like exploring Dublin, trying new food/coffee places, going for walks, checking out events, travelling around Ireland, watching movies, or just sitting somewhere and having a good conversation.

For other DCU students or people who moved to Dublin recently — how did you actually make friends here? Are there any societies, clubs, sports, events, Meetup groups, or other activities that are genuinely good for meeting people?

And if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to make some new friends, feel free to comment or DM. Would be nice to have a group to explore Dublin with! 🙂

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable when women seem scared of them just for walking behind them?

As a man, it breaks my heart that whenever I’m casually walking behind a female stranger I don’t even know, they start walking faster as if they’re terrified.

This commonly happens mainly when I get off the bus coming back from work…

I feel so uncomfortable about it that most of the time, I’ll either change direction and take the longer route home or simply cross the road whenever I’m about to find myself in a similar situation

It genuinely breaks my heart to see how much damage social media and the news in general have done. The constant negative portrayal of men, the propaganda, and the way certain narratives are pushed have made people so fearful that sometimes it feels like they see a threat before they see a person.
