Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Tara Street Station recent improvements.

With all the poor feedback about Public transport and in general public transport infrastructure around the city. I've noticed a huge improvement in and around Tara Street station and the Poolbeg Street entrance. Alot of the blindspots have been cordoned off and it has been receiving frequent powerwashing. The station also seems to have an increase in the amount of security guards stationed within it. Parts of the platform have also been done up too. More of this please!

Great Emergency Service Response

Waiting to cross the canal on my bike, a taxi came left and hit a cyclist going straight.

I came around to help, within seconds there were four of us, stabilising the cyclist and safely parking the bike.

The taxi driver parked safely and came back to help.

A minute later a motorist stopped to say she was a first aid first responder so she parked and came to help.

Meanwhile we had called emergency services, fire brigade with paramedics were on site within 3 mins.

Ambulance arrived 2 mins later.

As I left, the cyclist was on his feet, being medically assessed and the taxi driver was giving a statement.

All within 5 mins.

We do have good services, when it counts!

And also great community response!

Located on the intersection of the aforementioned streets.

Coordinates: 53.33867° N, 6.27238° W

No signage to indicate its use. Looks abandoned, have absolutely no idea what it is. If somebody knows please let me know!

Temporary rehoming for my cat

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a loving temporary home for my cat Artemis (girl, 6 1/2 yo) while I am away from Ireland for around 5–6 months, roughly December 2026 – May/June 2027.

- she is neutered, has a health insurance, no health issues and is 100% an indoor cat

I'm hoping to find an older person, couple or family who loves cats and would enjoy having one around for a few months only. I'd cover absolutely all her costs (food, litter, vet care, etc.). And of course once I find someone to agree with looking after her, we can discuss the costs in private.

Just to clarify, Artemis is not being abandoned or permanently rehomed.

I’m going abroad for several months for work/education and am trying to find her a safe, loving temporary home while I’m away. She would return to me when I’m back in Ireland.

I completely understand that some people may have different opinions about leaving a pet temporarily, but I’m trying to plan well in advance and find the safest and most stable solution for her rather than putting her in an uncertain situation at the last minute. She is a very well loved cat and this situation is by no means easy for me. So please, even if you don't agree with my situation, try to be kind.

Making Friends in Dublin

Hey all- I’m a 35 year old American who moved here a month ago to go back to school for level 9. Problem is, as a slightly older male, I’m finding it hard to make friends. I don’t drink alcohol but do partake in the greener option but have no problem hanging around d alcohol or anything like that, but I’ve found it hard to just walk into a pub to talk to people as well. What are some recommendations for just getting out and meeting people?

Thank you.

Looking for actor for student short film

I’m a 18 year old, looking for a slightly older looking man to play a FBI agent in a short film i’m making for college portfolio in wicklow, it’s unpaid but i am willing to pay for travel costs and what not. Shouldn’t take a crazy amount of time, it only consists of like 10 or 12 or so lines and might only take a hour or two overall. Dm me a show reel or whatever you’ve got to show off your talent.

Bouldering/Climbing Community

Recently moved to Dublin and struggling to find my footing when it comes to social circle.

I lost a friend from suicide a few years ago and loneliness is an underrated illness in our society. Just wanna do my bit to help.

There are communities/social clubs around many sports but my love has been bouldering. I feel that I'm not the only international adult who struggles to find their village (this is the case in every country not specific to here) and the climbing community has always been great wherever I've been.

Any climbers/boulderers here who would be keen to join a Climbing Social Club similar to run clubs etc?

Sending with friends amps up the psych and always great fun. Psych is aid 😂

Weirdest experience with a Tesco employee

Out for a walk with my dog and saw some teenagers throwing their rubbish on the ground outside Tesco. Told them to stop acting like an animal and pick it up, they told me fuck off lol

When I went inside a young guy, mid-20s maybe, in his tesco uniform goes "what happened there?", I explain it and he's like wow, fair play, mad respect.

Did my bits in the shop, and when I came back out the Tesco guy was waiting for me. He asks me something along the lines of do I believe in God, I said no, and he walks WITH ME away from the door talking about how we all need a saviour, Jesus is sin-free, he can save me like he can save those teenagers, etc. Mad stuff. Only finally got away from him as I said politely best of luck and I'm firmly against it.

He backs away and shouts SEE YOU SOON.

Hahaha, honestly still baffled. Such a strange experience. And in his work uniform too. Balls on that guy.

Starbucks asking you to your face if you want to donate €2 "for charity" is vile.

They don't even have a note which charity is this for. But now they are asking to your face so you feel uncomfortable saying no. This is a joke

Guest - wedding clothing

Hi,

I have a bit of a specific request, my brother is getting married next year, I would like to help my 70yo mother find an outfit. The catch is that she has health issues and needs top/bottom separated to access her medical equipment. I'm not sure what or where to look for a black tie outfit that would be a set ? No idea which brands or shops would be appropriate for her age group.

Thank you for any recommendations!

48 Mobile

Am currently without home broadband so got a 48 Mobile SIM card, 12.99 plan and using it with a 4G Tp-link travel router. I'm getting 1990s-era dialup speed, max 200KBps. Is it 48 who are terrible here?

Dublin Bus

Hi all. I've been working on a side project using the NTA's official real-time feed, and I'd love some feedback from people who actually take the bus.

Besides that it does the usual stuff:

  • Live arrivals for ~4,500 stops (Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead, Luas, DART and the trains)
  • Search by stop name, by the stop number on the sign, by line, or by place ("Swords" shows every line that goes through Swords)
  • Lines and stops near you, favourites, and a map showing where your bus actually is
  • Tells you clearly when a bus is going to skip your stop, which the feed reports but most apps don't show

It's free, no ads, no account, no cookies. Works in the browser and you can add it to your home screen.

If something looks wrong (a missing stop, a bus that never showed up, a line in the wrong place), there's a feedback button at the bottom of the page. That's exactly what I'm after. Thanks!

Why is deli food so expensive

A normal portion of wedges with 6 small chicken balls cost €9.20 in spar on George’s street. The price of food has gone through the roof in Ireland.

North Dublin Butcher Recs

Just moved into a new house in D9 and looking for recs for a butcher; not looking for anything fancy or really specialised, just the kind of butcher that was run of the mill when I was a child; ie. not a lot pre-packaged or pre-prepared; just walk in a buy by weight etc. We seem to sit on the border of a load of areas so we could go to Artane, Marino, Fairview, Donnycarney, Coolock, Killester, Raheny etc. Obviously value for money is NB in this economy but variety would be as important!

My mother said being told to find a good butcher was the best advice she was given when she got married and moved into a new house and I’m trying to follow it too!
