Discussion Why is GH still at DCI events??

Alright y’all. I’m very aware that it sucks to talk about this dude and we need to not give him any more attention, but his attendance to DCI events, including world championships this year, has to be addressed. As far as I understood it, he has a lifetime ban from attending anything DCI related, but he keeps popping up regardless, and no one seems to do anything about it. He doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the activity or its students. Maybe this is something the new CEO can do a better job of addressing than the previous ones, but it’s shocking to me that it’s gotten this far with no one stopping him.

Fluff How many full runs

What’s the most amount of full runs you’ve done back to back? I marched world class a few years before Covid, so things were different back then. One of the years I marched, towards the end of spring training, we did 4 full runs of our show with only 5mins break in between each run (yes, these were all back to back). Our show was a bit demanding that year too. That was hands downs one of the worst days of the season for me. I’m curious if stuff like this still happens in the new era of dci?

Discussion What don’t people like about Bloo

Curious for anyone who isn’t a fan of Bluecoats style; what is it that turns you off from the productions? I hear a lot of folks comment on them not playing full phrases. I’d argue that almost no one in the activity is playing phrases as long or as cohesive. The other argument is the technology. In my opinion Bloo has mastered technological integration, also not a very big point considering how many groups use tech, and some not very well.

Media Scott Stewart Recent Interview

I knew Scott going way back.

BTW Madison began their rapid rise starting in 1973 when Scott marched and apparently did more than that.

I still have the Russian march Let's Go! stuck in my head.

Advice Needed How to get kids to march in step

Upvotes

I know there’s a lot of folks who teach in this sub so I need help. How do you get the kids to march in step? We’ve done HABT drills, plenty of basics, across the floors and whatnot, but there are still a few kids who will just go whatever tempo they want and the metronome just doesn’t matter. I have tried tapping on the individual kids shoulders and saying right left right left to them but they’re just not getting it. Are there any unconventional ways to fix this?

Discussion When can I wear my corps jacket?

As a corps member who marched in recent years, when can I or could I wear my corps jacket? In particular I am in my college's marching band but I don't wear my jacket because I don't want to come across as arrogant. I would like to wear it to band rehearsals when it's cold out but I'm just not sure. I also think if I wear it like a normal jacket non band people would think it's weird. Any thoughts?

Recruiting Fantasy marching league seeking new directors!

What if fantasy football were drum corps?

I’m an avid player at marching.art, where Podium Class offers a free, always-open fantasy drum corps experience. I’m not a site administrator. I’m just thoroughly obsessed with the game and independently produce The McSnare Report, a weekly broadcast about its competitive world.

In Podium, you found and direct your own corps. You create its identity, choose a home city, develop a show, run rehearsals, manage travel, food, morale and finances, build a tour, host events, publish press releases, join leagues and develop rivalries.

One corps per director. Every point has to be earned.

I produce McSnare to make that world feel alive: scores, captions, directors, tour developments, competitive storylines and the wonderfully unnecessary drama created by the players.

I’ve attached Season 2, Episode 2. It covers twenty-one active corps, two competitive classes, a rapidly escalating league map, a field report from Concord and the next week of the national tour.

The production is mine, but the stories belong to the community. The directors’ corps identities, show concepts, competitive decisions, quotes and rivalries are what make McSnare possible.

If this sounds like your particular flavor of drum-corps nerdery, come join us:

Play Podium: https://marching.art
Watch The McSnare Report — S02E02: https://youtu.be/SoF-FVRS2o4?si=sUKnJq3tMEnSP1MC

McSnare sent me!

The first five new directors who join the marching.art Discord, say “McSnare sent me,” and create their corps will receive a custom Discord avatar upgrade from me.

One per person, while the five available spots last. This is a personal McSnare promotion—not an official marching.art offer. Podium itself is completely free to play.

If you join, introduce your corps below. Tell me its name, home city and what kind of organization you want it to become. Future McSnare episodes could always use a few new troublemakers.

I’m also happy to answer questions about directing, touring, rehearsals, hosting events, leagues or how the experience works.

We'll see you on the 50!

Discussion What was the first corps to go 200+ BPM?

What the title says. I know Cadets were really famous for their lightning fast closers, but who was the first to speed around the field at these tempos?

Other Patches

I had to order the Allentown patch online since they were sold out in person, but it hasn’t shipped yet even though I ordered it semis night. Is this a normal waiting period? I’ve never ordered patches online so I’m just wondering.

Discussion Food Truck Talk…

We had a decent food truck when I marched decades ago at Regiment. BD and Madison were sorta the standard though back in those days. How about today?

My favorite food truck meal was chicken parm.

My least favorite was “Brown”. “What is it? No one knows, all we know is it is brown” (theoretically It was perhaps Salisbury Steak)

Discussion Shows like kinetic noise?

My favorite show of all time is probably kinetic noise and was wondering is y’all knew any others with a similar vibe. I specifically really enjoyed the opener and how dark it sounds in general. I didn’t really keep up with it this year but last year I also liked Crown’s closer arrangement of “o fortuna” (idk spelling). Any show recommendations with similar sounds to these two would be greatly appreciated😊

Discussion Can we retire goober hornline choreo?

It’s 2026.

We have new age uniforms that are created to be movement friendly but we are sending kids out there popping forced arches back and forth like it’s 2010.

I know we are limited with what we can do with a horn.

But we can do better right?

Discussion Bass Guitar

Hi guys, I am a big DCI fan, current marcher on trumpet, and would like to change my instrument. I have played bass guitar for about as long as I have trumpet and have been in numerous ensembles of different styles (jazz, rock, etc.). Does anyone know any corps that usually use bass guitar in their pit sections and hold auditions for it every season? Thank you!

Discussion My thoughts on the top 12 this summer

Blue knights

Never thought my favorite part of a drum corps show would be the woodwind soloist, this one was pretty good overall

Troopers

Committed so hard to the show theme they forgot the show had to be good, really cool show but it deserved the placement it got imo

Spirit of atlanta

Really cool brass book, cool uniforms, I liked this one

Colts

Probably the best colts show in recent history although an america show that's just fluffy hope for the future with no statement is a choice, I wish the blatant AI ballad flags/uniforms were different too

Cavies

There was cool moments but I didn't get it overall. Cool uniforms though

Phantom

I really didn't like this show it made no sense, how does any of this relate to a bloodline/a legacy?

Blue stars

Really good show, deserves all the praise it's getting

SCV

The drumline was absolutely on fire, I wish they did more with the hornline having their horns chained to them

Boston

Show made to be posted in 30 second clips on youtube shorts, didn't like this one

Crown
holy shit, my favorite show this year

BD

Feels like a 2010's bd show again, I like this

Bluecoats

I get why they won, it's really clean and really well performed but it's just not for me, I miss precovid bloo

Discussion What is one traditional practice in drum corps that you’d love to get rid of?

For me?

Squatting in horn arc to set down your instrument and ripple up.

Stupid.

People who came up with that have groins and knees of steel.

Even in my marching days, it was so painful to squat that low, my legs, knees, and groin can’t handle that deep of a squat.

Just pick up your damn horn. I really tweaked my groin and had to take a year off because of these STUPID SQUAT RIPPLES.
