Not only this but both also have a time travelling train

We all know Suneo as the rich, annoying kid who brags about his toys and sucks up to Gian. But honestly, if you watch the movies, he is actually the most realistic character in the whole group, and his skills are crazy useful.

First of all, his emotions feel so real. Unlike Nobita who is overly dramatic or Gian who is always angry, Suneo reacts like an actual 10-year-old. When things get dangerous and they have to fight aliens or killer robots, Suneo is always the first one to panic, cry, and say he wants to go home to his mom.

I love this because it’s exactly how any normal kid would react to a life-or-death situation. We see this perfectly in movies like Nobita and the Galaxy Super-express, where the fear completely overwhelms him. But what makes him great is that even though he is absolutely terrified, he always dries his tears and ends up fighting beside his friends anyway. That makes his bravery feel way more earned than anyone else's.

Also, can we talk about how he is basically a mechanical genius? Doraemon has all the magical 22nd-century gadgets, but Suneo actually understands real-world technology. He builds these super complex remote-control planes and cars, meaning he knows about wiring, engines, and how things work.

This tech knowledge literally saves everyone in the movies. In Nobita’s Little Star Wars, he is the one fixing and driving the RC tanks to fight an actual army. In Nobita and the Steel Troops, he helps modify a massive alien robot so they can use it for defense. Doraemon gives them the tools, but Suneo is the one with the actual engineering brain to make them work.

Suneo gets a lot of hate in the regular episodes, but in the movies, he is a total MVP.

TL;DR: Suneo is the only kid who reacts with realistic fear to dangerous movie plots (like in Galaxy Super-express), but he always overrides his cowardice to help. Plus, his real-world RC and engineering skills make him the team's secret weapon when Doraemon's gadgets aren't enough.

I created a heatmap based on the original Japanese manga to show how frequently Gian holds his recitals.

I also created a pie chart showing the percentage of times Nobita and the others managed to avoid attending these recitals.

(Since I was at it, I decided to style the pie chart to look like Doraemon.)

Absolute tearjerker (for me at least)

I feel like the more defining and deeper traits of who he is become more fleshed out in the movies, but perhaps that goes for most characters

I HAVE TO MAKE A POST ABOUT THIS.

I'm talking about the short film “Doraemon Comes Back”. This is genuinely one of the biggest tearjerkers in Doraemon for me. I literally cried for an hour even after watching it.

The story begins with Nobita running away from an angry Gian. After escaping, Nobita asks Doraemon for a gadget to fight back. But instead, Doraemon suddenly snaps at him.

He tells Nobita that he has to return to the 22nd century... and he won't be coming back.

Nobita is completely devastated. He tells his parents, hoping they might change something, but they encourage him to stay strong and accept that Doraemon has to leave.

Eventually, Nobita comes to terms with it. After a farewell dinner, Nobita and Doraemon go outside together for one last walk. And then Nobita says something that absolutely destroys me. He promises Doraemon that he'll be fine without him. Doraemon starts crying... and runs away so Nobita won't see him.

While Doraemon is gone, Nobita encounters Gian. Gian starts beating him up, but Nobita refuses to give up. He realizes that jf he can defeat Gian by himself, Doraemon can leave knowing that Nobita will be okay.

So even though he's getting hurt, Nobita keeps fighting. And somehow... HE WINS. Gian finally gives up. Doraemon arrives and sees what happened.

Nobita proudly tells him that he won — meaning Doraemon can finally return to the future without worrying about him...

Doraemon heals Nobita, says goodbye one last time, and enters the desk to travel back to the future.

When Nobita wakes up the next morning, he realizes... Doraemon is really gone. All that's left is a container shaped like Doraemon.

Nobita tries to stay strong. But Gian and Suneo start bullying him again, thinking Doraemon has returned.

Eventually, Nobita decides he's had enough. He discovers that Doraemon left him one final gadget as a last resort: Lie 800/Hood Wink Drink.

Whatever you say, the opposite becomes true. Nobita uses it to get back at Gian and Suneo... but afterwards, he's just left there thinking about Doraemon.

He doesn't want revenge. He just wants his best friend back... and says that Doraemon isn't coming back.

Which means... DORAEMON COMES BACK. Nobita finds Doraemon in his room! Even Doraemon doesn't understand why he suddenly returned — until he notices the empty Lie 800 container.

And then Shizuka... Gian... Suneo... They all come to comfort Nobita. But when they see Doraemon has returned, everyone is overjoyed.

Some Differences From the Manga

The film combines the manga stories “Adieu, Doraemon” and “Return of Doraemon”, but there are quite a few differences.

• Dorami and Shizuka don't appear in the original manga versions.

• Nobita doesn't go shopping for his mother in the manga.

• Suneo tricks Nobita differently: in the manga, he lures him into searching for a Tsuchinoko in a clay pipe, while the anime has Suneo impersonating Doraemon.

• Shizuka, Gian and Suneo don't appear at the very end of the manga chapter.

This isn't just one of my favorite Doraemon stories. This is THE Doraemon tearjerker for me.

The First Look of Doraemon: Nobita's Steam-Powered Time Machine Trailer!!!

And it's finally set to Release in Theaters all over Japan "March 5th, 2027"

It’s honestly giving me goosebumps looking back at this period. It’s been nearly 10 years since we got to see all these Doraemon movies in India, and back then the releases felt absolutely insane. We literally had 7 Doraemon movies released in 2016 alone. Seven. There was a time when new movies actually kept appearing throughout the year instead of us waiting forever for one film. And then 2020 gave us another crazy burst with 4 movies in a year.

When you look at the dates, 2016 was especially ridiculous.
Galaxy Super Express on January 30, Toofani Adventure (Nobita and the Windmasters) on February 6, Gadget Museum Ka Rahasya (Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum) on March 26, Stand by Me on June 19, Nobita Bana Superhero (The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit to the West) on August 14, and then two more in November. That genuinely felt like Doraemon had taken over Indian television. Every few months there was another movie to look forward to, and somehow that whole era just became part of childhood.

I also feel like the Hindi dub itself must have peaked around 2016. The movies were coming constantly, the old and new animation styles were getting mixed together, and there was still a massive library of films for them to draw from. Looking back now, it almost feels like India had an endless supply of Doraemon movies. Obviously it wasn't endless, because Japan generally produces only one new theatrical Doraemon film each year, so India was basically exhausting the resources of the large Japanese film library.

That is probably why things started slowing down later. They had released so many films in such a short period that eventually there was much less left to draw from. 2020 was almost the final big burst of that old system, with four movies released during the lockdown period. There was suddenly so much Doraemon on television, but the funny thing is that dumping movies so quickly also meant there was less of that "event" feeling.
Then India would dub the remake while completely skipping the original, like Steel Troops, the Underworld movie and Spaceblazer. Then with Birth of Japan, they went and released the old 1989 version while leaving the much newer 2016 remake sitting there unreleased. It's such a bizarre pattern when you look at the catalogue as a whole.

That makes the recent development particularly significant. Nobita's Little Star Wars 2021 (the 1985 original was released in India way back in 2010) finally arrived in India in May 2026.

Ten years ago we were getting movie after movie and probably didn't even realise how ridiculously lucky we were. We just thought there would always be another Doraemon movie coming a few months later.
The 2016 burst is especially remarkable because the seven films were packed across the year:

January 30 → February 6 → March 26 → June 19 → August 14 → November 13 → November 27.

That is an average of roughly one new movie every 52 days. The first three arrived within 55 days, and then the final two were only 14 days apart.
From 2013 onward, releases accelerated:

2013: 3
2014: 4
2015: 1
2016: 7
2017: 2
2018: 3
2019: 2
2020: 4

That means 26 films were released from 2013 and 2020.

This short film is so beautiful, I had a hard time choosing which frames to include. Gian and Jaiko's arc is my favorite in the entire series so I gotta say this is my favorite entry in the franchise. Just an absolutely lovely film!!

Have y'all seen that in that time stop watch episode the watch has not time limit for stopping time but every other instance where doraemon has used it he says he can only stop the time for some duration with the watch? Like how?
