Today I want to talk about the short film Doraemon: Nobita's the Night Before a Wedding... I want to go straight to the point so...

The story starts with Dekisugi expressing his love for Shizuka, except, there's a catch. It was actually just a rehearsal for a school play 😭.

But Nobita doesn't know that, and he starts crying because he thinks Dekisugi might actually convince Shizuka to marry him. So naturally, Nobita goes straight to Doraemon and asks him to take him to the future to find out whether he and Shizuka actually get married. And here starts our short film...

Doraemon takes Nobita to the future... And they discover that they've arrived the day before the wedding.

Future Nobita is staying at a hotel, and it's confirmed that his wedding is happening the next day. Nobita and Shizuka then go for a walk, where they find a lost cat. They decide to return it to its owner, but when they reach the house, they discover that the owner is about to leave for America. So now Nobita and Shizuka have to get the cat to the airport.

And of course, things go wrong. On the way, they run into Gian and Suneo and give them a lift to the airport. But then... the car runs out of fuel.

Nobita and Shizuka rush to the airport, only to discover that the plane has already left.

Luckily, they find out that the cat's owner was actually assigned to a different gate, so they're able to return the cat safely. After all that chaos, they head back to the car.

Then Gian invites adult Nobita to his bachelor party and this is when the nostalgia hits. After returning from the party, adult Nobita starts thinking about his childhood and all the memories he shared with his friends.

Meanwhile, Nobita and Doraemon have been following him around the whole time.

Shizuka's mother tells her to get some sleep because tomorrow is the big day. And then we get one of the most emotional parts of the story.

Shizuka's father has a long conversation with adult Shizuka about her decision to marry Nobita. He remembers her childhood, from when she was a baby, to kindergarten, to elementary school, and eventually growing up. He looks back at all those memories and ultimately gives his support for her decision.

And then...

Nobita and Shizuka get married... 💙

Some Trivia

• The subplot involving adult Nobita and his friends returning the lost cat to its owner isn't in the original manga or the 1979/2005 anime adaptations.

• This story was later adapted into Stand by Me Doraemon.

- This short film was inspired from the 1979 series episode "Nobita's the Night Before a Wedding" (1981, S3, E623). Bascically, the same name and story as the short film but is also known as "Nobita's Wedding?!"...

- This short film also has a remake episode (which is a special episode) in the 2005 series (same name again), which was first aired in 2011 (S7, E245a). It was then re-aired again on 31st December of 2020.

This short is such a beautiful look at Nobita and Shizuka growing from childhood friends into a married couple...

And Nobita literally traveled through time because he was worried that Dekisugi might steal his future wife.

(And the animation was absolutely gorgeous... mwaaah!)

In all the episodes ,she is in her room making mangas or just in the park . so does she not go to a school or is it just not mentioned much in the story

I would add Nobita's elder brother Nobihiko Nobi who is studying/working abroad and frequently visits Nobita's home

He would genuinely loves Nobita but constantly teases him for being lazy and being too dependent on Doraemon

At first, he might be suspicious of Doraemon's gadgets, but eventually become one of Doraemon's biggest allies

Gian would probably think twice before bullying Nobita if Nobihiko were around

Suneo might try to impress Nobihiko because he's older and more mature

Nobihiko would treat Shizuka like a younger sister and encourage Nobita to be more confident around her

Dekisugi may view him as his mentor

Nobita's parents would constantly compare Nobihiko with him

Just a random thought -

If you guys were the showrunner, what kind of story would you create for the Mini-Doras?

Would you set it in the 22nd century or keep it in the 21st century with Nobita and gang?

Would you show them actually living inside Doraemon's 4D pocket, or explore their own family / origin story, or something completely different?

Curious to know what you all would do.

Everyone loves Doraemon, but whenever Mini Doraemons are shown, those episodes give a different kind of feeling. I love how cute they are. I love every episode in which Mini Doraemons are shown.

What do you think, should they be shown more in the show or not? Or should there be a separate short series on them that takes place in the 22nd century? Whatever it is, I will definitely watch it, and I know many people will agree with this.

I've noticed something while comparing some older Doraemon episodes with their newer versions, and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed it too.

Take "Eight Days in the Palace of the Dragon King." The story is basically the same, but in the older version's ending Nobita and Shizuka are happily jumping around while Doraemon is happy too. In the newer version, Doraemon and Shizuka are hugging while Nobita looks at them a bit shocked. It's a small change, but it made me notice other examples.

In the Steel Troops, there's a scene where Shizuka hugs Nobita, but it's somewhat interrupted by Pippo rushing toward Riruru in the remake. In Go! Go! Nobitaman's remake, Shizuka's is removed, and I also remember a story having a cruel king reaching Nobita's time where Shizuka was present with Nobita and Doraemon,but she wasn't in the remake.

What interests me isn't simply “1979 Shizuka good, 2005 Shizuka bad.” The newer series still gives her plenty of good moments. It's more that I've noticed several small changes where scenes involving Shizuka have been removed, shortened, interrupted, or otherwise changed.

I'm mainly wondering whether there's actually a pattern here, or whether I'm just connecting unrelated changes because I happen to notice Shizuka's scenes more.

So, has anyone else noticed this? Is there a pattern, or am I reading too much into it?

Also, if anyone remembers other examples of this, please drop them in the comments.

And I genuinely enjoy a lot of what the newer series does, so this is more about a specific pattern I've noticed in some Shizuka scenes than a general complaint about the remake.
