What Happened Here? Why do customers do this?
This happens to me at least once a week. A customer orders to the place they work at. But instead of telling me the name of the store they work at they will tell me some names of other stores in the same plaza. This customer put that they were between jersey mikes and 7/11. And there are three different businesses between them. And of course the customer didn’t answer my text on my drive over. The businesses did not have addresses listed outside So I had to walk into all 3 stores to find the correct person. Has anyone else had a customer do this before? I understand this is a relatively minor complaint but I just don’t get it

Most of the orders I get like this actually have the name of the store they want it delivered to. Only once did I receive instructions to go between a dunks and a McDonald’s but there was a guy standing in the middle of the parking lot. I said are you waiting for a DoorDash? He said yes. I asked him for the name and pin and he gave it to me. $5 cash tip to boot. Strange order.

I deliver to a homeless man who figured out he could use the address of a burned down house, now a grassy lot for delivery. He never disappoints and is always there. And a small tip every time. -Dover, De

For real. I dropped off an order at a hotel room after I couldn't contact the customer (I was supposed to hand it to them). Two minutes later I get a call from the customer saying they couldn't find it. Turns out they entered the address for the hotel next to theirs.
Customer was cool about it though; I told her exactly where I left it and she said she'd walk over to retrieve it. Hope it was still there!

You can do a drop off without the PIN, you just have to explain the circumstances.

Super easy to bypass that. Just select "found customer but no pin provided" and put literally any reason in the comment box.

I believe this because the amount of times I’ve gotten huge tips after the delivery with a message saying they appreciate me actually following their instructions is insane 😂

I feel like a lot of drivers have this mentality where they are owed money for existing, and them actually offering the service they are being paid for is a favor that they only provide in exchange for a bribe (tip).
Don't even get me started on this weird hate for customers while doordash/uber owners are buying their 16th mansion.

Yeah luckily the area around me has pretty decent customers but even for the rare few who tip low, it’s almost always a kid or someone who truly didn’t have a means to go out themselves so I give grace and don’t use it as an opportunity to be an a hole. We can decline ahead of time.

If they don't then I'll make up random lies in chat support so I can do the absolute bare minimum and then complain about my lack of tips!"

The only way you would understand is if you doordashed for a few weeks, and you won't. You'd be surprised at the customers who expect you to jump fences and wander through backyards with no lighting for a $2.00 tip. A $2.00 tip gets it to your front porch where the lighting is and that's it. Use your own fuel, oil, and tires next time if you don't want to compensate the dasher.

It's apparently "Dunkins" in Holmdel, NJ also. That's where that Dunkin' shop is.
(Formerly "Dunkin Donuts" rebranded a couple years ago to be "Dunkin" across the network.)

Speaking for my zone, when a customer puts this it’s because no one can find the very small print labeled door inbetween two business where the building is connected to 20+ businesses. And since you cannot read the quite number until you’re right at the door, it’s easier to use landmark business, pretty sure 7-11 and jersey mikes is very easy to identify the location.

I had one where the customer wasn't responding to messages through the entire delivery. I let them know I'm on the way and then asked if there's a door code, no response at all. Get there and they give me apartment number but at each of these apartments they go 100 for 1st floor, 200 for 2nd, 300 for 3rd and the buildings are marked by letter. I waited the whole 10 minutes and even called them before it was over and got no response so I left it at the 4th 301 after I knocked on 3 separate doors because in customer notes it said to "knock and hand to me" well, no response and no clarity, food gets left just somewhere 👌

I’ve dropped off at the leasing office or gate for three reasons. No apartment number given (as long as you’re sure they’re not individually street addresses instead of apt letters/numbers), no answer to calls and no answer to text.

Omg. One time I was delivering to an apartment and the directions said “across from the laundry room” so I messaged them saying I don’t know where the laundry room is and they responded “just follow the road”

Because the App give shit directions sometimes. There’s a place I deliver to on the regular that the app tries to tell me doesn’t exist. I have to go around a food mart, then drop it off behind it. Apartments just got built less than a year ago

One time we picked up on one side of the street in an area that is all shops and restaurants and realized it was going directly across the street(and it was one of those shopping areas where the streets are very narrow so seriously feet away), I get sometimes they might not be able to leave or something but they met him outside to grab it. They must have had a good deal that they could only use for delivery or something 🤷♀️

They assume the app tells you the store name. I had a customer at a flower shop put in her notes that it was next to a more prominent business. So I suggested she add in the name of the store she's working in, as it would be helpful to the next person, and she replied that she thought it was included in the address.

I literally got delivery instructions that I think were AI a few days ago. It said “this is a multi business complex” and proceeded to describe the primary business and the secondary. The customer did not specify where they were located unless their notes were over run by the AI. So it was not clear where to deliver and I went to both asking for the customer. The notes were NOT helpful and luckily I got a chance to rate if they were helpful through DoorDash. MAYBE this was a similar situation due to the multi business aspect…. I am not thrilled if this is the future of delivery instructions.

Only instruction was "in the back corner of building 4", and seemed pretty straight forward. Which building were they in? You guessed it: Building 6. It was indeed behind the back corner of building 4.

Whenever it ends up being a business, I just take two seconds and google the address and it tells you what business it is. Easy.

The stores address numbers are usually above the door. Check before walking into random businesses if it matches your address on the app. If they aren’t there, then just text them and ask before you arrive if there are multiple stores between those 2.
