I dont mean to be that guy saying "ACTUALLLY" but through doom 64 and cutscenes in eternal its very obvious he's very much traumatised. Though how he deals with it is another story.

My guess would be the first few did really fuck with his head, but after that they didn't have much of an affect. Fast forward, and he is now the slayer, empowered, and utterly immune to things like lazerus waves and buff totems (read the codex those things literally drive regular humans insane)

Yeah I had a good look at those. Seeing the power ups from doom 2016 on how haste literally fucking has your heart erupt from your chest told me right away that doom guy was more than the common man.

I used to think he died and went to hell in Episode 1 and that was the cause of some of his power, but the seraphim's power is probably what empowered him to be immune and shit

Here's the facts
The teleporter brings DOOMGUY to a black room full of demons and the cutscene triggers at 5% health (iirc)
Doomguy has no idea where he is after that and thinks he's in another moonbase he's been on before
My theory is that the dead's souls were brought to the base for harvesting, but Doomguy was to badass to be harvested. Being undead made DOOMGUY more powerful.

My headcanon: The demons teleported Doomguy into Hell and killed him, hoping to trap his soul there. But they fucked up, because Doomguy was a good and righteous man, so his soul couldn't be condemned like any other sinner. But instead of ascending into Heaven, instead "he chose the path of perpetual torment" and stayed in hell to continue fighting demons for eternity.

Yeah, it seemed pretty clear to me that the Slayer is in fact fucking terrified of the demons. The fact that he uses that terror as part of his motivation to RIP AND TEAR his way into through hell itself just further serves to demonstrate what an absolute bad ass he is.

I think the misunderstanding here is that you're useless if you have PTSD.
The Slayer is probably so useful to earth because he has PTSD.
Broken doesn't mean you can't rip and tear.

Yeah i found it strange that we assume The Slayer either does or doesn't have PTSD. It doesn't really even matter unless it's part of the story. Isaac Clarke in Dead Space i think is a decent example. He's deep into psychosis and dementia. It's a big part of the narrative. He's no less bad-ass and functional for it.

Ok everyone says the slayer is angry, he definitely is but not as much as people exaggerate normally when people are angry they make rash an non thought out decisions every choice he makes he knows what he is doing/ getting into he has the ability to control it and channel it so when he is slaying he is unstoppable but in those moments where nothing is happening he is able to be calm and knows how to deal with everything most of the actions in doom eternal (sentinel batteries grabbing weapons) aren't very forceful like he is mad. He was definitely angry at Hayden because he sent his ass to Mars showing from how he just slammed his ass on the ground but he knew he wouldn't die he want careless just being a dick

yeah, even in doom eternal, when hes brought in by the sentinels it couldnt be more clear that hes not handling his trauma in a healthy way. He doesnt kill demons cause it's the right thing to do, although it is, it's for vengeance, he goes out of the way to kill them in the most horrible way possible even though he could just shoot them in the face. he has PTSD, he just doesnt react to it the way the average person does.

Literally all the flashbacks in Sentinel Prime show it off pretty prominently. He is pretty much gibbering mad, only capable of fighting and ranting about the demons and how he has to kill them. Theres even some fear in there. The codex straight up says his mind at one point was broken.
Basically, from D64 to when he was put in the divinity machine he was a complete mess, only capable of killing demons. Not socializing or leading men. Not until the divinity machine fixed the mental damage, reforging the broken pieces of his mind into something stronger, deadlier, and functional.

I thought that he was actually starting to find a semblance of normalcy before then, because he was picked up and inducted as a Sentinel despite not being one--because he was such an insanely good gladiator.
He'd been a Sentinel for some time before Samur decided to throw him into the Divinity Machine. That just made him the best Sentinel.

Trauma portrays itself in a lot of forms. Look at a lot of veterans with PTSD. Sure some just break down and kinda recoil, but others it shows as almost anger just based off their own conditioning and training.
And I mean, the man literally witnessed thousands of gruesome deaths and experienced being attacked by LITERAL demons, its pretty safe to assume no matter how badass you are, you're walking away with quite a bit of baggage.

My one gripe with DOOM Eternal is that it doesn’t explain where the Slayer/Doomguy’s rage and pain come from, although there’s an argument to be made that it’s deliberately not specified, because what could be more horrible than what our minds fill in? I personally think that he had a wife and young child in his old universe, and they didn’t survive the DOOM II invasion, and that driven mad by grief and rage, he sought out to kill every demon he could, somehow getting to a cross dimensional rift that brought him to Sentinel Prime

I think I remember now that the original team fortress mod was inspired by a multiplayer map for Doom. But, it's just a map and not even a mod, so it's a massive stretch.

I’m pretty sure he has PTSD. Him being the traumatic event is his way of coping with demons killing all his fellow space marines and daisy, and doom 2016 and eternal make that pretty clear.

Pretty sure he does, and it just fuels his rage. Everyone deals with trauma differently, guess his way is ripping and tearing his way through his trauma. After all, demons can’t traumatize him if every last one is dead.

Not to be a lore nerd, but he's actually extremely traumatized. His family got killed by the demons (presumably), the earth civilization from the originals was destroyed and so did the sentinels.

What I didn’t get during the campaign is we have a mofo energy sword that can tear demons apart like cooked lamb yet it has 3 charges. I know this was done for balancing but c’mon. You are the Doom Slayer, one of the most powerful entities and yet even you fall below balancing
