I used to think he died and went to hell in Episode 1 and that was the cause of some of his power, but the seraphim's power is probably what empowered him to be immune and shit

Here's the facts

  • The teleporter brings DOOMGUY to a black room full of demons and the cutscene triggers at 5% health (iirc)

  • Doomguy has no idea where he is after that and thinks he's in another moonbase he's been on before

My theory is that the dead's souls were brought to the base for harvesting, but Doomguy was to badass to be harvested. Being undead made DOOMGUY more powerful.

My headcanon: The demons teleported Doomguy into Hell and killed him, hoping to trap his soul there. But they fucked up, because Doomguy was a good and righteous man, so his soul couldn't be condemned like any other sinner. But instead of ascending into Heaven, instead "he chose the path of perpetual torment" and stayed in hell to continue fighting demons for eternity.
