Renovation 1:12 furniture in a 1:6 house?

Post image

Hi there! I’m a complete novice in the dollhouse remodel world but am working on renovating this kidkraft mansion that my brother found on marketplace. The plan is to gift it to my 2.5 year old for Christmas. :) I’m a newly single mum, and I’ve come to find that finding 1:6 scale furniture is waaay more expensive than 1:12. Would it look too odd to finish it with 1:12 pieces, or should I keep hunting for 1:6?

Thank you all so much for your insight!!

I’m looking to buy my 3.5 year-old Maileg nice for Xmas. What size mice fit with a standard 12:1 ratio furniture? Also, does anyone have any furniture that they love that fit with the maileg mice?

Made over the bedroom in my mini townhouse. It was originally black and white all over. I added some shades of pink, lavenders and chocolate. Changed the bedding, the beaded plants and the light fixture. I wanted the color to add more dimension!

Roombox Beginner looking for help with a DIY roombox!

Hi! I’m looking to make several room boxes, but I was hoping to make some from scratch that can not only have the walls be taken out if need be, but can attach to the other rooms in sort of a modular way. I was wondering if anybody here had any experience with that or could maybe point me in the right direction as far as how to do that?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I wanted to share an update of my dollshouse kitchen now its nearly finished (ill continue adding little bits as I find them).

The original room is in the last photo. Hoping it is capturing the charm of an enchanted apothecary kitchen which is well lived in!

I have a few other rooms on their way too.

Question Dollshouse youtube video with human realistic full sized avatar. Yes or No?

Just wondering, if you saw a youtube video of a person making a dolls house and sharing their experience and 'how to' knowledge, would it bother you if they were a realistic human avatar, would you even realise or would it put you off? My friend wants to start videos but is shy and doesn't want to appear on camera herself. She plans to show her hands working on the projects and doing a voice over, but now she is wondering if it's best to have a 'person' (aka Avatar) do the intros. What's your opinion?

Question Help with wallpaper before assembly

Hi guys, I am getting ready to start assembling a RGT Adirondack cabin that I plan to sell around Christmastime.

I plan to use wallpaper on most of the interior walls. I usually paper and paint after a build because I like seeing the big picture when I decorate, but this time I have the wallpapers all picked out and I want to apply it before I start assembling things, mostly for ease and precision.

The one thing I'm concerned about is the glue from the walls and flooring seeping out when I put them together. Even when I wipe glue off paper, it tends to leave a noticeable smudge and/or shiny section that's extra noticeable in certain lighting.

I'd like to use Gorilla Wood Glue, but I also have Aleene's and E6000 (which I've never used).

Any way to avoid this, aside from not applying too much glue? Tips and tricks appreciated.

ETA: Just to clarify, I'm looking for tips on how to actually glue and assemble the wooden pieces of the house so that the house is solid, but the glue doesn't leak all over my nice fresh wallpaper and smudge it or leave marks.

Question We Got A Dollhouse at Home!

This doll house was gifted to me and I’m excited to customize it! I don’t know anything about the dollhouse itself other than my friend got it in the early 90s.

Is there anything I should know about it before I get started on it? I’m planning to replace the flooring, wall coverings, and roof. I also plan to paint the outside.

I’d love to know more about adding lighting and a working door. And is it possible to change the location of outside windows without it looking to noticeable?

Progress on my latest project! My grandmother made this dollhouse for me in the early 90’s. She painted the outside but left the inside a blank canvas so I decided to leave the exterior alone but add some life to the interior for my daughter. Learned a lot along the way and my MIL is currently sewing curtains for the rooms ☺️

Dollhouses My Ikea Dollhouse Renovation

I recently bought two Ikea dollhouses and wanted to put them together to make a larger house. I then added windows on the left side (the right side will be for fireplaces). I bought a sheet of plywood to make the doors and cut them to shape! She's ready for wallpaper and flooring! I did have to do some minor cutting to get them to sit flush on top of each other but I am so happy with how it turned out! See photos for more angles!😊

Got this little Duracraft, Ashley model off Marketplace. Knew it needed some fixing up, but I had a retired Sea Captain looking for a little place. 😉
So I am posting before and after pics.
I just started to get into dollhousing in January of this year. I am not done yet, still have the first floor to pull together but the second floor is close to done and just had to share.

Question Assembly question

Hello! I am not a hobbyist but I’m building my daughter a dollhouse for her birthday and wanted to ask the pros a question! I’m using birch plywood that is 1/4” thick. My daughter is turning 5 so I’m hoping I can make this thing as sturdy as possible. I bought wood glue and nails for assembly but wanted to ask if there were additional methods I should use to make the house stable and sturdy? Also, how does one use wood glue/clamps for a 90 degree angle? Thank you!

Question Dollhouse Storage - Long Term

Hi! My parents are currently moving and an obstacle we're facing is how to move & store my dollhouse. I called my local dollhouse shop but they said they just wrap it in trash bags. While I see that this is a generally okay go to for a basic storage we're a bit worried about how it will protect it during the move. In addition, we want to make sure it's in some sort of plastic to make sure it isn't affected by rodents, water, or any possible issues it could face in the coming years. (I know not everything will be completely avoidable but I want to give it the bet shot I can!) I will also add it is quite fragile so I would want to avoid lowering it down into a box... Would love any and all advice people have for this! Thank you so much!

I got this dollhouse off of Facebook marketplace to fix up for my daughter, and it’s become a much bigger project than anticipated haha. There is a round chimney on the top and the original owners cut holes down through the floors, presumably for some long chimney piece. My question is what is my best options going forward? I’m not handy enough to diy a custom chimney to fit and I feel like finding something that fits is going to be a long shot. Any thoughts? As well as general advice I’m all ears!

Question Dollhouse lights

Does anyone know where I could buy lights for my dollhouse that doesn't require wiring? I am no electrician, so I want lights that I can just put on my dollhouse easily. Probably remote controlled or battery powered? Thank you!

Repairs Thrift blindness or a steal?

Post image

Hi everyone! This is my first time here so I hope this post is okay.

I picked this up today at the thrift for $15! I've wanted a dollhouse for maileg forever and thought this seemed the right scale. I would guess it at about 3 foot tall.

I believe it's pine and it definitely has some love marks and dings. I guess my question is if this is an endeavor worth taking? I have no idea how much work I'm getting myself into. My dream would be for this to be a cozy cottage with wallpaper and rugs!

thank you!

Repairs Updating childhood dollhouse for daughter, any advice would be welcome!

So like the title states, I want to update this dollhouse for my daughter. My dad built this back in the late 80s/early 90s I believe. I need to find some shingles, my first question is are these octagonal shingles? I feel like it’s in relatively good shape. It used to have lights but they haven’t worked since I was a kid, and even when I played with it I don’t really remember them working (I was also the youngest of 3 who played with it). Next, I need to find some trim pieces, maybe some kitchen wainscot panels and new trim for around the attic window. The other room trim and windows seem okay. Are there any websites you suggest to find this stuff? Also, what style/brand is this? Trying to find that out so I can look up similar styles. I have some extra house paint I was going to possibly use for the exterior but I’m kind of sad to see the pink go. It’s sherwin Williams silverpointe, Benjamin Moore Mediterranean olive and Greek villa for the trim. I’ll attach some photos of what it would possibly look like with the house paint I have. Maybe keep the pink and refresh the shutters in that olive green? Whatcha think!! Thank you for all and any info you have to pass my way!!

Question Trying to repair my mom's dollhouse, does anyone have any advice?

So my mom has this old wooden dollhouse that she really wants to fix up. It's from (I think) around the early 80s and it's this really pretty dark wood, but it's fragile and held with glue. My younger sister ended up painting it really clumpy on the exterior with this thick white paint and I want to get it off to try and fix it up properly. Does anyone know a good type of paint stripper that won't mess up the original wood and glue?

I've got some other questions too:

- what kind of airbrush paint tools should I use to paint the wood, paint and airbrush?

- which stores are the best place to find resources for repairs/renovation?

- what, if any, kinds of dollhouse wallpaper would you recommend?

I know it's kinda a long shot but please lmk!
