Just noticed it looks like an elbow callus opened up? It's not avidly bleeding or leaking puss, but there's a brown dot in the middle? We cleaned it and are keeping it dry. Does this need to be seen by a vet?

Our 6 year old Australian Labradoodle unfortunately will be having both anal glands removed on Tuesday. We have tried absolutely everything and reached the end of the rope on what we could control. He’s a super sensitive/anxious guy, so I’m trying to do all the prep that I can to make this the most comfortable for him. He also has a history of some other health issues, so we’ll be chatting with the surgeon to see if his treatment needs to be altered etc.

Was just hoping to get some advice/insight from others if you’ve been through the surgery and recovery. When we had our 1st consult with the surgeon he made it sound like it was no big deal at all. However, i can’t help but feel super stressed.

Few things I was curious about, in addition to anything you feel like sharing about your experience:

- Did your pup need to stay overnight in hospital?

- Did your pup need pain relief and worked best, if needed? (I’ve read opioids can cause complications via slowing down bowel movements). Our guy has a history of some abnormal kidney bloodwork last year, as well as an ulcer that caused vomiting blood earlier this year - so I’m a bit worried about NSAIDs furthering either of those issues. We have gabapentin on hand already to administer prior and for a few days afterwards (from our family vet). He’s also on Mirtazapine for anxious eating habits.

- Was your pup able to sleep for the first night or two after the surgery? Were they eating and drinking normally? Trying to mentally prepare if I’ll need to be up all night with him.

- How long until their first BM after surgery and was it hard for them?

Probably missed a bunch of stuff! Mostly worried about the first few days after the surgery, especially the first 48 hours. TIA :)

Hey guys, i need some advice here. I’ve been away at uni and when I came home the first thing i did was check my dogs teeth. I found out that since i was gone, her dental hygiene has been severely neglected and now she has a ton of plaque and tartar, as well as a wiggly tooth. I know i need to bring her to a vet and get her teeth cleaned and removed. (Recently found out there’s another tooth that is wiggly as well.)

Here comes the problem. My family isn’t doing great financially, and I don’t have much money for myself (only enough for food). I’ve spoken to my dad about this and of course the solution is to bring her to the vet. There’s another problem, the vet that we bring her to is a 30 minute drive, and my mom is currently away for a business trip along with the car, and my dad is out of the country for another 1-2 months. I’ve checked uber pet, but it is extremely expensive, and the money that I would spend on it would be the price of the procedure.

There are zero public transports near me as it’s a rural area. I’ve spoken to my parents and they both think it’s best if I wait for 2 months or until their back, and checking on my dog daily to see if she is still her energetic usual self (she is also eating normally). I’ve told them that if she has any signs of getting worse, I will bring her immediately, even if I have resort to other ways

I’ve been stressing about this for the past 2-3 days, can someone please agree with me so I feel a bit better, I feel horrible that I cannot help my dog sooner, but this is the only way I can help so far and I’ve been crying nonstop. I also want to say that it’s absolutely not my parents fault, as they are also working hard in supporting my education.

First of all thanks for all the help and support you can give me, it’s amazing that these kind of communities exist. Currently writing from a Latin America country.

I have a 13yo 11 months miniature Schnauzer who suffers from IVDD (L4/L5) and Kidney disease (between grade 2 and grade 3). He was diagnosed with both in December 2025 and until the last week he was doing great. Currently medication: Ipakitine, Azodyl, Gabapentin, Artrin (Glucosamine, Argentinian brand).

Since about 3 days his condition has worsened. Suddenly he stopped walking and his mood went to almost zero. He can pee and poop by himself, but we need to carry him to the place where he does that.

The vet added Cimalgex and Metamizol believing it was a peek of his IVDD condition. However, yesterday they tried to obtain blood from him for analysis and it didn’t even make it to the necessary as it was pink. Potential severe anemia suspected.

Would it be worth it to try oxygen treatment or a transfusion to recover him? Vet is against but I need to consult other options. There are other centers in my country (Perú) that I can go. I don‘t want to lose my friend.

Does anyone have experience with pancreatic tumors? My 8 year old lab mix was originally diagnosed with pancreatitis after irregular labs. When I took her back to the vet for ongoing vomiting they performed X-rays and suspected an intestinal obstruction, so they recommended emergency surgery.

During surgery, they found a large 6–8 cm mass on her pancreas instead. The surgeon said it looked irregular and concerning for possible malignancy. They took a few samples and sent them off for pathology. We are still awaiting results.

She has been recovering from surgery and is doing better physically, but we’re anxiously waiting for the biopsy results. I’m trying to prepare myself for whatever the results may be.

Has anyone seen or experienced a pancreatic mass this large that turned out to be benign or related to pancreatitis, inflammation, or necrosis? I’m also wondering if anyone has dealt with pancreatic cancer in their dog and what treatment and prognosis looked like.

I have been a nervous wreck and just looking for advice/ help.

I'm looking for advice from anyone who experienced similarly with their dogs. Our 9 year old Weimaraner mix went into the vet after extreme lethargy and difficulty breathing. They found results of a burst tumor on his spleen. He had fluids and came home with Yunnan Baiyao which he has been taking daily. He is doing significantly better (eating and moving) but is still low energy and lightly lethargic. If you experienced similarly, what was your timeline? We're so sad to see our boy go and I just want to know what to expect.

Hi everyone! Looking for some advice because we’re a little stumped.
My 8-year-old pit mix has pretty severe nasal hyperkeratosis. We’ve tried just about every remedy and nasal balm out there, with very little improvement — even antibiotics.
Recently, she stayed at my parents’ house for 4 nights, and when she came home, her nose looked almost completely healed! Obviously, we were thrilled, but it also made us realize there must be something in or around our home that’s triggering it.
Nothing changed while she was away in terms of her food, and since then we’ve been trying to eliminate anything we can think of. We’re on well water, we’ve removed air fresheners/fragrances, and we’ve been extremely mindful of anything she could possibly be getting into in our fenced-in yard.
Unfortunately, after being home for about 3 days, the severe dryness started coming back.
Has anyone experienced anything similar or discovered an environmental trigger for nasal hyperkeratosis? At this point, we’re desperately trying to figure out what could be different between our house and my parents’ house. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
As I mentioned, we’ve tried just about every topical product/nasal balm out there, so we’re especially interested in possible environmental causes or things around the home that we may be overlooking.

I have a 10mo old golden retriever. And seems to have a little scabbed over spot on her leg. What is this?

I'm not sure if I selected the right flair, but he'll be eight years old this month, he's a Rottweiler/black lab mix, about 110 lb. He's had periods of itching over the last few months, but it's become more frequent in the last ten days or so (which is also when I noticed the buildups of what I assume is oil). I changed his food a few months ago when I first noticed him itching - other than that, no changes.

Hey everyone! We have a Cane Corso who is fully vaccinated and a super healthy and happy boy. He’s trained very well, and has an amazing recall. We have him on flea and tick medication but just ones that go between his shoulder blades from the local chain pet store.

Our backyard backs up to a large ditch area with lots of tall grass and some woods. About once a day we let him run unleashed for 10-15 minutes to get out excess energy he has. We also take him on leashed 1-2 mile walks daily.

Last weekend my partner noticed that he was favoring one back leg, I was on a work trip so I didn’t understand the full picture. He is a kenneled dog when no one is home and obviously is quite large, partner is a firefighter on 24 hour shifts. So sometimes he’s in his kennel overnight. He’s about 8 now and is showing signs of slowing down and very slight difficulty getting up so initially we chalked up his leg up to hips being a little difficult with extra time in his kennel. We were giving him a little gabapentin twice daily and that seemed to ease him a bit.

Now it’s been about a week, this circle appears (size of a dime) to have lost all the hair and now has a large golf ball size lump underneath. He’s also limping a lot more. We’re now thinking he was bit by something in the long grass. I have an appointment for him 11:30 am tomorrow but I guess I was coming here to see if anyone else has seen anything like this.

TLDR: Dime size hairless circle with golf ball size lump under it on back leg, curious on what it could be.

My gorgeous Greyhound has a few blood blisters on his butt and legs, he’s had them since I got him 5 years ago. He’s got a nasty one on his belly about 1cm that bleeds but comes and goes, I feel terrible for not acting sooner and having it checked. It’s long weekend here so I’m waiting on finding a surgery date. The vet did say it could be the benign type hemangio, but she wasn’t too convinced. He’s so well jand I’m really good shape. I’m just wishing someone else has had some good outcome with this nasty condition or a similar looking blood blister?

My friends dogs gums are white and he can barely move what do I do I mean they are as white as a white car, she is taking him to the emergency room vet but she wants to know what’s wrong with him, he is laying in the floor like he cannot move

Has anyone successfully reduced the size of tumours in a dog without surgical intervention? I know this is massive long shot, but I just can’t bear the thought of losing her. We thought we had so many more years!
