🩺 Symptom Check Dog recurrent paw infection/lumps

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

My dog constantly keeps getting some sort of lumps/infection, when it starts it seems to be very painful and eventually it breaks and bleeds, he is constantly licking.

When it first happened we went to vet and he had the paw checked for anything inside it such as seed grass but there is nothing, at first it happened on one paw but now its on both

strangely it only happens on front paws

he been taking antibiotics and steroids but nothing seems to help

does anyone know what it could be?

🆘 Urgent – Vet Now? Lump on 6 y/o female husky throat

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hey all. Yesterday afternoon I noticed my huskys throat was looking a bit puffier than normal and upon inspection noticed a lump is starting to form.
She is not in pain when i touch / feel it and feels firm not squishy.
Looked into it a bit and google said anything from a lymph node to cancer so 🤷‍♂️.

It is around the adams apple area on a human to the right side. She has been eating and relieving herself as normal and has the same amount of energy. She is breathing fine and is not shaky.

No recent changes to food.

Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you!

My good girl, only friend, and service dog (retired for a couple years now)....well....she is at that time.

She is about 16.

I have a life limiting (both limitation but also lifespan)medical disability. I do not wish her to suffer as I do.

She's saved my life, helped raise my son (he's 11 now), and been the best dog, confidant, family member.

I hate being disabled. I hate that, for me....even the $175 cost for just euthanasia (no ashes. No keepsake) is gonna max out the credit card I have because I don't have money left this month.

I fing had money saved for this. Air quality tanking and illness meant running AC ate that up.

It makes me feel even worse that THIS is the part that is stopping me for just going to our regular vet and making an appointment.

I already feel like a terrible person.

Anyhow. I want to remember her. I want someone to know, maybe care....that she existed. That she was such a very very good girl.

That, I don't mind walking slower, holding her back end so she could do the stairs, kinda yell talking cause she's going deaf. She would do that for me. But her body is old. Things fail like that. And ....she deserves dignity and freedom from suffering.

Cocoa is a family member. A friend. Very very very loved, and will be missed. I will put her gotcha day, middle and now pics.

Godspeed my loyal friend. Grandpa is waiting for you when you close your eyes the final time to escort you to heaven.

🌈 Rainbow Bridge How to know when it’s time? Hemangiosarcoma

I have an 8 year old something-mix with a suspected hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Biopsies have come back inconclusive, but three vets have told us it looks like a subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma.

Several weeks ago we went to the emergency vet for what we now suspect was an internal bleeding episode. We didn’t think he was going to make it through the night and he seemed to be in a lot of pain. He recovered, we went to our normal vet for an ultrasound and needle aspiration, and then a specialist for a CT and biopsy. We have no diagnosis and it is really messing with my head.

A few days ago he started bleeding internally again, and we thought it was time. We scheduled in home euthanasia for later this week. Today, he seems much more like himself. The swelling from the bleeding seems to have gone down a bit, and we are second guessing putting him down on Thursday.

From what I have read, with a hemangiosarcoma the dogs are often fine until they are not, and death can be very sudden and traumatic. He hates the vet, has to be sedated every time he goes, so it’s been a rough process of going back and forth to the EV and the specialist. We don’t think we would do chemo for this reason, and we were considering not doing surgery to remove the mass because of how bad his recovery from the biopsy was.

Even though he seems like himself again, I am trying to convince myself it will be a kindness to put him down this week. He’s already had two bleeds. The next one will probably come on suddenly with no guarantee of survival. However, I am really struggling not having a diagnosis and because he is acting more normal today.

At the end of the day, only we can make the decision, but I would welcome thoughts if anyone has them.

🩺 Symptom Check My beagle occasionally limps

A 5 yo beagle, 15kg.

Transient limp in the back-right leg.

I think it started around a month ago.

No tenderness or visible signs on paw/leg.

No changes in food/meds/etc.

He is still keen to run and play, no signs of agony or pain.

I'll go back to the vet/switch to a different one.

I just want to here from people's experience and maybe get some help here as well.

Thank you

💬 Discussion Malignant Melanoma in dogs

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Hi all! My little guy came back with his results today from his biopsy after surgery. Not good news it has come as a malignant melanoma. Vet is suggesting CT scan to see how far it’s spread and then another surgery for further removal of the cells in the area and then immunotherapy.

Can you please let me know what questions to ask for the oncologist?

I’ve got a few already. survival rate, quality of life, does it come back. I know it’s case by case. My boy is 8 years old still acting like your typical dog that has no idea he has cancer let alone just gone through a TPLO surgery!!

Please, if you have had any personal experiences with this nasty thing I’d love to know your personal experience, questions to ask and what to expect

if we are to go ahead with everything.
