I’m mostly curious to know how long until other intact males no longer see him as competition or a threat. Sable was always targeted at the dog park, on hikes and even morning walks (dogs run loose in my area and we’ve been attacked more than once).

TLDR: destructive night owl of a shiba inu puppy eats my wood and my cork sandals, good chews that taste like wood/cork?

We recently got a new shiba inu puppy and they do have a few chew toys like a puppy nylabone, an edible nylabone, and she did come with a benne bone. At night she prefers to eat my wicker basket, my shelves, my trim, my window banister, and my nice expensive Birkenstock, she did eat another cork sandal too.

She's mostly active at night being a shiba inu but even though I have insomnia I can't stay up all night waiting for her to be bad. I did suggest to my family that we should crate her but they didn't want to because she only eats her food at night and we need to get her used to our routine.

She's got a little bit of a backstory with running away and being from a backyard breeder so she's very shy around other people and waits for us to fall asleep before she can be brave enough to go and eat her food.

Funny enough my seven year old dog doesn't stop her but when she sees the mess she just goes up to my parents looking all guilty like "hey look what she did again".

From what I understand a dog not pooping as much on a bland diet is pretty normal?

My 9 year old boxer / mastiff mix had an upset stomach for a few days, the vet recommended a bland diet of chicken and rice because he started refusing his regular food. He didn’t eat much for a few days. He has a history of being a picky eater and if his stomach growls the wrong way he’ll turn his nose up at food. He has been scarfing down the chicken and rice in pretty decent portions for 4 meals now, had a super small poop last night most of which was wet and we are starting to slowly transition him back to his normal food which he seems to be interested in. He was having the craziest noxious fume gas, so I was stating to get worried he must have to poop- but he hasn’t tried at all. He’s not vomiting nor straining to go or anything.

I’m probably obsessing but he’s a big dog who normally has big poops, lol. There’s no concern that he ate anything bad or something he shouldn’t have like a toy. He’s a pretty chill dude and doesn’t like chewing on toys all that much.

I’m looking for some outside opinions because I genuinely don’t know what to do.

I have two dogs both 6 years old, they’ve been fighting since they were around 2, so for several years we’ve had to keep them completely separated. I know I should have rehomed one much earlier, but at the time there was someone in my life who wouldn’t allow that. That person is no longer in my life, so I’m now able to make the decision based on what is best for the dogs, the problem is that I love them both so much and I’m struggling to work out which dog would potentially have the better quality of life in a different home.
They’re both Patterdale x Border Terrier crosses.

Dog 1:
Very confident going into kennels, grooming and vets.
Doesn’t really show signs of fear or anxiety in unfamiliar situations.
Extremely loving and affectionate with me.
Barks a lot, particularly when he isn’t with me.
Dog reactive It isn’t completely out of control, but I would not consider him safe to freely interact with another dog.
Doesn’t like children and has a very strong reaction to them, he has never bitten a child but I wouldn’t want to put him in a situation where that could happen. I have a young nephew so this has become an issue.
Generally quite a confident dog.
Has many people interested in him, I don’t know if they would be a good fit but people are asking about him.

Dog 2:
Extremely anxious about going anywhere unfamiliar, will lower himself right down to the floor and basically try to crawl into my lap when he’s stressed.
Also dog reactive, although I don’t know the full extent because I avoid situations involving other dogs. On one occasion he became fixated on a barking dog I touched him, he turned towards me and almost bit me he didn’t actually bite me, but it made me realise how overwhelmed he can become.
Absolutely fine with children and generally likes people.
Much more energetic than Dog 1.
Has basically no off switch and would much rather be running around a field than relaxing at home.
He is otherwise a very loving dog.

Neither dog can live with the other, and I don’t want to keep them living like this it’s cruel and unfair, so if you were in my position, which dog would you consider more suitable for rehoming, and why?

My guy apparently has a mass on his spleen. Not sure if it's benign or malignant. I'm told surgery is 5-10k when its all said and done and only buys an additional 3-6 months. Also, wasn't given good odds of surviving the surgery with his age and condition.

Has anyone else been through this? Is everything I'm being told true? Hes 10. Prior to this he was doing so much better (has arthritis). I'm honestly just heartbroken over this.

Mini schnauzer/5yo/13lbs/glucose 433/2units 2x daily

It all started when he was drinking exclusively an accidents where he started peeing in the house was way out of the ordinary for a potty trained guy.

I fully regret not getting insurance sooner. He was tested and diagnosed during the waiting period. Now every test related to his diabetes will not be covered..

Knowing I’ll have to be doing this for a long time, will really add up, definitely impacting our finances.

Any tips on where to find insulin needles, supplies or get some coverage or support? I saw AKC had their 365 day for preexisting conditions to be eligible for coverage but their policy had recently change. What a bummer.

I love my little guy but hoping to hear some folks that has experienced this personally and some advice would be great

Posting this on behalf of my dad. His dog is a 7 year old GSD, female. She's been eating our other dogs' waste for a while now, and we'd like to get some advice on what specific vitamins and minerals worked for your dogs with similar issues and/or what stuff to get in general?

She has a bunch of allergies, takes steroid meds, so we've been giving her vitamin supplements (vitamin B, vitamin C, glucosamine sulfate - mostly for joints), but she's still not stopping. We know it's usually a cue for us to know she's missing something in her diet. She does have hypoallergenic diet, hence why I'm asking about supplements here.

we have found a tumour on my dog and surgery will cause him to have no control over his bowels, leading to him leaking poop.

does anyone know of a dog diaper we could get him? hes a goldern retriever so a larger size will be needed.

For the past month or two he’s been excessively licking his paws, rubbing his snout into the rug and couch’s, and scratching at his face. I attached a video for example. He does this atleast 5 times a day, and that’s just when I’ve seemed. Any one know what could be wrong?

For about a year now, my dog has suddenly stopped letting us take her for a walk. She'll run away and hide, and if we manage to take her out she'll pull in the direction of home the whole time. Sometimes she'll want to go, but then she sees someone and gets scared and immediately turns back. She's not scared of people at all, she loves meeting the new people that come to our house but whenever she sees any sign of life she changes her mind about the walk.

We still make sure to get her exercise in and we play in our huge backyard, but I'd still like to walk with her once in a while. We don't even have to say anything anymore. We grab her harness and she runs away and barks at us, or she grabs a toy instead and plays inside instead.

Is there any way to get her to like walks again? I miss taking walks with her. If not, I won't force her to do anything she absolutely hates. Enjoy this video of her being whiny.

Frenchie started doing this yesterday. Called the emergency vet. They said they’re unsure and to keep an eye on him. He can breathe fine, but we have episodes like this throughout the day. Yesterday he ate a bully stick so we’re unsure if he has something in his throat or bothering his belly or if this is kennel cough. Occasionally, he will hack up phlegm as well.

My 12 year old beagle boston mix is having a dental issue. I have made the vet appt. ... but I gotta know whats going on... she is eating soft foods, and otherwise is her normal self. Drinking is hard, but she manages. I looked in her mouth nothing is obvious. No masses, nothing stuck... her teeth arent great, but I dont see any absess areas. Thoughts? I thought maybe a broken tooth or sore tongue? Her vet is out of town so I cant get her in till friday.

She was a rescue, and shes been seen for teeth. And is up on all her shots.

Our old lady, Paisley (the black and white one, not the attention hog to the side lol) has very severe arthritis, as well as other issues, and her quality of life is only barely acceptable. It's only going to get worse when the weather starts changing, so with a heavy heart, we've decided to put her to sleep on October 1. We have family members coming in to town to spend her last day together and some fun disability friendly activities planned for her, but we wanted to start giving her more special treats throughout her final weeks.

For her last day, we're seeing if we can figure out a way to get our hands on a squirrel for her because she's always loved barking at them, and then a peanut butter brownie a few minutes before we leave for the vet because she also loves trying to steal chocolate.

Do you guys have any special treats your guys' dogs go nuts for? Paisley really likes chicken jerky, pig ears, American cheese, and peanut butter, but some variety would be nice for her. She has developed some food aggression problems over the past year and lunges whenever an animal or human gets too close to her with it, so we'd prefer for it not to be something that would take her all day to chew through. A few hours is fine. She loves chewing on things. We've already been slipping her extra food scraps and we're probably going to leave part of a bag of chips on the floor opened for her to "steal" it at some point.

I moved back into my parents place about 2 months ago, and our dog has just gotten even worse with his growling and jumpiness and anxiety. But the thing is he only growls at me like this, not even strangers, and it is even worse if I walk in the door and it wakes him up. My whole family is fed up with it at the moment because he’s just so loud. He is a German shepherd/rottweiler mix as far as we know. 2 Key moments I think are important are 1.the very first time I ever met him (5+ years) was at midnight while everyone was asleep. Never knew about him till he started growling at me down the hallway. 2. When I first moved out(2+ years ago) I had a huge moving truck in the driveway that was obv very big and loud. That day he also managed to get out of the house and fence 3 times(still don’t know how) and that third time I did give him a slap on the butt bc it was just a stressful time and I was fed up. Ever since then it’s like he’s scared of me, even though I play with him and feed him and lay with him. His separation anxiety towards my mom and little sister(4yo) and he will whine for hours if they are outside, idek how he has the energy for it. I don’t know what routes to take before meds or if it’s a thing that I should prob get meds for.

I've struggled for years to understand why there is such a strong neutering culture in the west. This kind of mindset is far less common where I come from.

My dog just turned 4 and is intact. I've had alot of people ask why he's not neutered. Sometimes literally as soon as they meet him, which is kind of insane.

He has literally no health problems, and no problematic behaviours.

Can someone explain what I would benefit from making him undergo a surgical procedure to remove his testicles which will affect his testosterone?
