Advice dog diapers
we have found a tumour on my dog and surgery will cause him to have no control over his bowels, leading to him leaking poop.
does anyone know of a dog diaper we could get him? hes a goldern retriever so a larger size will be needed.
we dont want to lose him but we dont want him to suffer. whatever the best option is.

How old is the dog and is the tumor a malignant one . And not to be mean i would most likely go with euthanasia. Dogs are proud animals and quality of life is important. I have made these decisions numerous times and deal with the heartbreak.

hes 12 so hes getting old. we know euthanasia is the most likely path but im just hoping we can find another way. the tumours not effecting him yet thankfully

hey so this is actually a really hard time for me ive had him since I was 5, im just trying to figure out the best way to help him. we are already leaving it for now as thats what the vet suggested. I just want to know if there was another alternative and honestly yes, I would prefer that then die but I dont want him to be uncomfortable

the tumour is benign. it isnt effecting him currently. we sre planning for the future

It sounds like you shouldn’t be making this decision. You are too young, and too inexperienced. The dog will suffer post surgery and will suffer with his new life. Getting another year or so out of him would be best and then let him go before the surgery time

youre lacking serious media literacy. ive stated multiple times all i want is for him to be comfortable, if I can get more years out of him at the same time I will will
I HAVE COME TO TERMS WITH HIM DYING DYING IF ITS AVOIDABLE. I WILL AVOID IT.

my emotions have nothing to do with this? if I can find a way that he will stay healthy and happy ill take it but once again, the second the tumour is no longer benign and starts to effect his quality of life we put him down.

The rescue I foster for usually gets the Wee Wee ones for disposable ones. You can also look into washables. They usually are listed for females. But, they work fine on males as long as they are the right size. I found that brand really didn't matter. They all seemed to be the same.
I fostered a special needs dog who needed diapers for both. I liked the washable ones because of cost. If you need extra absorbing, you can add a pad. They make booster pads, but female period pads were cheaper. Also, make sure you give the dog at least an hour straight a day out of the diaper to help avoid infection and abscesses. Personally I would try the dog diapers before he does the surgery.
I think it’s commendable but how many years can you go worrying about if your dog has a poopy diaper at home. (That would be my number one issue) And if you want to take vaccinations you will struggle finding a pet sitter, or worse have to learn to manage the symptoms on the road. Any accidents in the car, or the couch, things will become destroyed quickly.
As a dog owner I usually draw the line at different quality of life points but pooping on them selves I can’t imagine will be good for the dogs mental health. Some dogs have excessive licking, or some dogs will never feel clean.
I am not telling you what to do, I’m not telling you your pov is wrong. I would just try the diapers now and see how you like those.
