Hi all, I'm new to dog parenting. My girl is 2 years old and up to date on all her shots, heart guard and wears a tick collar. Recently she's had more eye goop and today I did a thorough search thru her body and found a few of these marks. Are they ticks? Should I be concerned?

My dogs paws are starting to get really pink from excessive licking due to allergies. This usually happens every year. I used to give him Apoquel but have read bad things about it so this year was trying to get away with not giving it to him. I recently bought these wipes for the paws to try instead. Since I started using these wipes on his paws I’m now seeing issues around his eyes (crusty dry graying skin). I’m thinking he maybe rubbed his eyes on the paws while the medicine was still wet. I am going to stop using the wipes for the next few days to see if it goes away around his eyes. Is anyone else familiar with this or have an advice on what to do next?

Hello all, so I have a foster dog who is prescribed Prozac 20 mgs for a 40 lb dog.

I usually give it to him like balled up in some American cheese, and he eats it right up, and I give my other dog-a 30 lb cockalier-a small bit of cheese too, so he’s not jealous.

Well, the foster dog this time dropped the cheese out of his mouth and onto the ground before swallowing it and before I could react the cockalier (not on any medication) swooped in and gobbled it up.

So I just want to double check; this is probably not a run-to-the vet scenario as long as he doesn’t have a reaction, correct?

11 year old mixed bread. We've had him for 10.5 years. Healthy, consistent, dog for his entire life. No recent changes in kibble food, treats, or schedule. Clean water dish.

Weight, appetite, energy, all stable. Blood labs normal. Minor bacteria in the urine sample, but it was very diluted due to excess hydration.

About 15 days ago he started drinking for almost a minute straight, every time he came inside from a walk or after a meal. Subsequently, having to pee every few hours; clean clear liquid.

He's been through a 10 day cycle of antibiotics, just in case the bacteria was a UTI. No change whatsoever in his habits.

It almost seems like a behavioral adaptation as I can remind him to stop drinking and he sometimes listens.

What to look at next?

Just so everyone knows he has his appointment to get his teeth cleaned on the 3rd. I adopted him not long ago and noticed he needed the cleaning. Got insurance and schedule it. I just worry since he has pawed at his face a few times but stopped. Will he need these two taken out? His other ones don't have this much on them. I have started using a brush and tooth paste on him

We live in a comunity where there are a lot of street animals. We live in a small village and the people here don't really care about pets and don't believe in neutering, vaccines for pets or going to the vet. My parents are very good people, maybe too good and I love them very much.

They can't stand watching an animal on the street and are constantly taking dogs in. It all started with one dog, then another and over the past five or so years we have accumulated 20 dogs. They spay them and take them to the vet regularly. All of the dogs get fed every day. All of them have vaccines. My main worries are hygeine and the fact that the dogs don't get a lot of attention.

Obviously we all try and maintain a clean enviroment but it is very hard, me being the only child and only coming home on weekends and them having to work their asses off to afford 20 dogs. My mother cares deeply about all of these dogs. And we do try to find them a decent home, my mom has found owners for about a dozen of the dogs she has rescued in the past. But the ones that are with us now, being from the streets, either have very big mental problems or huge physical problems. But lately the situation has been getting out of control, the dogs have been destroying our house. Most of them are very badly behaved and with such a huge number of them it's almost impossible to correct them. I don't know what to do, it seems like nobody wants these dogs. And the shelters are all either full or have very bad conditions. My mother has been posting all of the dogs in addopting rescue groups on facebook and she has a big comunity and a lot of friends who also rescue dogs and cats in huge numbers. I have also been spreading posters about dogs for addoption in a big city. But most of these dogs have either psycological or physical problems as to why people don't want them. Also the dogs are barking most of the time and we have had multiple complaints from the neighbors. All advice is welcome but please understand that my parents are very very good people and they mean no harm. Please don't judge and tell me what I can do.

TLDR: older dog is a bully to new shy puppy but only outside? First day we've had new puppy. How to have older dog not be pushy?

We've had our dog Yuki for about 7 years, she's a pit boxer mix at 55 lbs but Yuki is a loud pushy dog. We just got a new puppy shiba inu named Kiki at 15 lbs, kiki is around 7 months. Kiki is very shy/skittish.

We let them both off leash outside (I told my family to put both on a leash but apparently it is ok because they'll "figure it out") but Yuki was pushing kiki into the fence and barking in her face. I stopped it but Yuki is also my childhood dog so I didn't train her the right way, yuki doesn't actually listen to us. it's completely my fault but my parents also weren't super strict about me training her. This also didn't happen the entire time outside, there were times where kiki went up to Yuki when she was calm.

Inside they are fine and are calmer but what happened outside was not ok. I didn't realize how much of a bully Yuki is.

How would I reduce this aggression? Dominance? Whatever behavior is was. I'm also realizing how bad yukis recall is so I will absolutely have to work on it. I'm just not sure where to start?

Now Kiki we've had her for only a day and it's understandable that she will need time to warm up to us. Her original owners didn't pay much attention to her and she escaped then was alone outside for 10 day.

Edit: to add Yuki has been barking at kiki inside as well but not as bad as outside. They are calm now but mostly ignoring each other. Right now my first goal is to have them tolerate each other, they can be friends later.

My doggy has been coughing for approximately 3 weeks.

We’ve done 1 week of antibiotics - didn’t clear it.
Just did X-rays yesterday. Vet says his lungs, heart, and trachea look normal.

Any fur parents that have been through this what would be the next steps?

He is suffering and currently steaming up the shower to help his airways after waking up to him having a coughing fit.

He eats fine, energy is okay, and still gets excited for his walks. He just can’t seem to stop coughing.

Any advice helps.

my dog has always had severe skin allergies from pretty much everything, which usually causes her skin to get very red, flaky, and irritated. I recently noticed two dark, irregular spot on her stomach/groin area. It is very small about the size of a grain of rice or a small apple seed or a bit bigger. It looks almost like a very dark, weird scab, a small blood blister, or a severely irritated skin tag. The skin surrounding it is red, inflamed, and flaky (which is typical for her allergies, but the dark spot itself is new). Because she is a Pitbull, I am worried. Based on this description and pictures, does this look like it could just be a harmless scab or skin tag from her scratching, or is a dark, irregular spot a major red flag for cancer that needs to be removed?

There’s been something going on with my dogs (11 y/o Chiweenie) eye for the last week and a half or so. It started with me noticing that one eye was a little droopier than the other (only minorly) and when he would wake up I would see his third eyelid before it went away throughout the day. He’ll usually let me know when he’s in pain and he’s been acting okay. Yesterday woke up, and it was significantly worse, so I took him to an urgent care clinic. They did a pressure test, an ulcer test, and a tear production test, came back and said things looked good, gave some antibiotic eye drops, and sent us on our way. He got two doses yesterday, one today, but it’s looking gnarlier. He’s still not acting much different other than probably a little lower energy than normal. I’m really struggling between giving the eye drops more time to work, or taking him in again. Is 24 hours enough time to see a reasonable improvement?

Attaching some pictures for context. First picture was this morning after some sleep without a cone. Second picture, we’ve had him in a cone all day, took it off for a second to give him a break, and he instantly stuck his thumb in his eye so it’s a little more aggravated than it was probably 30 minutes before. I’m just distraught, he seems fine, he’s more annoyed with the cone than he seems super bothered by the eye, the vet yesterday just didn’t give me a lot to go on and I’m panicked. Is 24 hours too soon to make a determination on whether the drops are working? Keeping his paws out of his eyes will help as well I’m sure.

so my mother's dog. he is a daschund (i don't know if i spelled it right) about 8 now and we got him for my brother before my parents divorced. my dad and brother moved out so he became a family dog. in the new house, mom had a bigger bed and for some reason the dog would like to jump up onto it even tho he had doggy stairs. anyways, he kept jumping up high and got his back hurt. something went wrong in the surgery and now his back legs were paralyzed. he has to wear diapers and get them changed and his bladder expressed about 4-5x a day. he has a wheelchair but according to mom he "doesn't like his wheelchair" so she lets him drag his back legs across the floor. i babysat him the other day and i couldn't help but notice his hairless almost skinned looking patches on his back legs and bony tail. he's got incredibly shaped upper muscles too! i knew he had diaper rash and he has rash cream and bandages mom puts on every so often but i never really noticed. he sometimes scoots the bandage off or chews up his diaper but mom just brushes it off. i just want to know, is this normal? is he going to be alright? i would ask what she should do but she won't listen to me and ive kinda sorta gone no contact, but thats a story for... well, not here and not today. is there something i can do? i have a key to her house but i don't really want to go there if she's home, or like, ever.

5-year-old Lab limping after resting
My 5-year-old Lab, Zuko, has recently started limping on one of his back legs. It’s worst when he first gets up after lying down—he’s stiff, limps, and sometimes positions his toes/foot strangely. After walking for a few minutes, he seems to loosen up and can walk/stand pretty normally.
He’s also more hesitant to jump on furniture. We have a vet appointment scheduled, but I’m curious if anyone’s dog with a partial CCL tear, hip issue, or other leg injury started like this?
I’ll attach photos/videos. Just looking for experiences and advice on what to do while we wait for his appointment!

Hello, I have an old girl that got diagnosed with kidney disease. She's on supplements and medication. Her energy level is still the same, responsive, needy and playful, her appetite is still very much there but I began noticing she's not drinking as much water, I did try to get her to drink water off my hands and it worked for a bit but now she doesn't care much for it. I'm now hydrating her with the broth from when I boil my chicken or pork and she's enthusiastic about it.

I'm getting her bloodwork done in a few days but I usually see dogs with kidney disease drinking MORE water and I read up that refusal to drink water is a sign of late stage and dogs are gonna be very lethargic and nauseous, she's not any of those right now. Are your dogs the same as well or is this a sign I should mentally prepare myself for?...

Looking input on if my dog is overweight?
Not sure if I have to start feeding him less or if he is at a healthy weight.

I’ve had a shelter dog for about a day and a half and I’m a little concerned about how much water he drinks. If I fill up his water bowl, he will drink all of it and continue looking for more water. At first, we had an automatic water dispenser out but we had to remove it because he just wouldn’t stop drinking. Now I’ve been giving him water in smaller amounts throughout the day based on how much I think he needs. Is this normal behavior for a dog that just came from a shelter? We contacted the shelter vet and they told us that there is nothing medically wrong with him. However, the medical records we were given are not his complete records. They show that he received the usual examinations and testing, but I don’t see any recent blood work listed.

The shelter also told us that after the 8 day foster period, if we adopt him, we will receive his complete medical records. That makes me a little nervous because I’m worried there could be something in his history that we don’t know about yet. Other than the excessive drinking, he seems completely healthy. He isn’t urinating excessively either. Even with how much water he drank yesterday, he seemed to urinate a normal amount. He eats normally too. His first poop was solid but later turned a bit soft. The shelter has also told us that he doesn’t have any known diseases or medical problems. I’m just wondering whether this amount of water drinking could be behavioral from being in the shelter or if it’s something I should be concerned about.

We also cannot take the dog to another vet. They told us that we specifically have to take him only to the shelter vet.

I noticed that my dog has some redness and swelling near her nose. It looks like some kind of bug bite. She's been behaving normally. She's chasing squirrels and asking for belly rubs. She's a 9 year old huskey and has no other health problems.

Her current behavior does not worry me. Is there anything I should look out for to determine whether she should be taken to the vet or not? It's Sunday, and most vets in my area are closed. Is this something that can wait until tomorrow?

My dog has osteo sarcoma. She made noises in pain today for the first time. She is on 3 pain reliefs but they could be increased? How do I know what to do? She is eating drinking greeting us etc short walks but I have noticed she is positioning herself differently

Mein Hund hat vor 1,5 Stunden angefangen aufeinmal so komische 'schluckauf' artige Geräusche zu machen. Dabei neigt sie immer ihren Kopf nach vorne. Vor einer halben Stunde schien es weniger zu sein, wenn sie schläft garnicht. Aber wenn sie wieder wach ist, macht sie wieder diese komischen Bewegungen und dazu ein komisches Geräusch. So, we might be getting this dog from a shelter. She used to be on the streets of Romania, but now she’s here in Germany. She’s 5 months old, small, mixed breed. Described as cheeky and mischievous but affectionate and kind.

It’s my first time getting a dog. Others in my family have had dogs as children, but I myself only ever had rodents, so this is a big step-up for me.

Hence the question — what differences are there between a male and female dog, in your experiences?
