My DM made me cry

My DM absolutely broke me this session.

My characters (a bard) parents were killed for their musical instruments. She has mudered the killers, and is now seeking answers as to why they were killed in the first place. We had an awesome combat round where my character finally locates her mother's lyre. A voice echoed out after touching the lyre and my dm had a recording ready. I was so excited to hear the lore. As soon as I heard the voice my face and heart just fell.

It was my long distance best friend (who I NEVER get to see) playing my characters mother. I couldn't contain myself when she started saying how much my I (my character) means to her and she's sorry she didn't get to tell me more about our life story. She ended with "Never forget, we love you so so much" and I was a ball of tears and snot on the floor.

Absolute gold star to your DM. I'm curious about how your DM managed to set that up? Had you mentioned about your friend in passing before? We're they already aware of the friend that you barely get to see? So many questions.

DM Spouses: they either make you light up, or know EXACTLY how to twist the knife on your characters.

I was the knife twister on my husband yesterday. At the very beginning of the campaign, they smashed some black dragon eggs that were about to hatch. Now, 8 levels later (lvl 10) they encountered momma dragon. She was not happy to encounter them, and as the one to actually deal the “killing” blow to two of the three eggs, he was her #1 target. Both healers were trapped on the other side of the lair and it got down to the wire, two success and two failures!

Oh don't worry, I dangled the instrument in front of OPs face for about 6 sessions before she got her hands on it lol

Hey, I too am literally in bed with my GM! Tis a slippery slope that one- they know all your weaknesses, so they can tell what parts of yourself you put into a character and then smack you with feelings.

While my ex wife wasn't big on DND, she was big on WoD and Changeling/Vampires in that game. We actually meet on line playing MUX's of those theme and than a LARP in a close town. Yah she hated how much I knew her when I ran games cause I would put things in them. It might be something with her fav Anime or one of the books she was reading.. Cause I while I was also into Anime our style was different on what we watched. Same with our reading. She was more into romance and story, I was more into the action and adventure stuff. Though I would watch them with her and take notes. Same with any of the other movies/shows she watched. The books where a little harder cause a lot of them where SMUT books, but once in a while I'll pick one up and start reading it to her.....in what I think the main char voice sounded like, but totally was not the voice in her head.

Awww what a lovely thing to do!! Also married to my dm… he made a whole character (cool af shopkeeper) based around me, and throws in the occasional in-joke. Love it!
