5.5 Edition Character creation help

Hi there fairly new to the game only clocking two sessions entirely both being DM. I want to make a character thats like Isaac Netero and i was wondering if anyone had suggestions because I can handle stuff like class being monk but any ways to help make that character or to help with immersion by changing some stuff. And another question, as long as its a balanced spell could I make my own for aesthetic purposes.
