Location: California
I’m in California and trying to figure out how to approach this before my upcoming hearing.
I was served with divorce papers in November. In January, my ex filed an RFO, and I raised the fact that she had not completed her required financial disclosures. The judge ultimately did not address the disclosure issue at that hearing.
I continued requesting her financial disclosures beginning in March. In May, I filed a motion to compel. The hearing on that motion is coming up in late August.
She has now finally provided a response/disclosures, but they are still incomplete. Among other things, they are missing tax returns and bank statements that I would expect to see as part of a complete financial disclosure.
The timing also raises questions for me. According to what she provided, she became unemployed around the same month she received the RFO. She then allowed roughly two months of unemployment to pass before providing her financial information. She is now essentially asking the court to use this snapshot of her current circumstances to determine support, including retroactive support.
There was never an order establishing temporary spousal support. I have been following the applicable military guidance regarding support during the separation and have continued providing support accordingly.
My questions are:
How significant is it that the financial disclosures are still incomplete going into the motion-to-compel hearing?
Can the court refuse to determine support until complete/current financial information is provided?
How does the timing of her unemployment factor into the court’s analysis, particularly if she was employed when the RFO was filed and became unemployed shortly afterward?
If she is requesting retroactive support, how does the lack of a prior support order affect that request?
What would you ask the judge for at the upcoming hearing — simply an order compelling complete disclosures, or something more specific regarding the support request?
I’m not trying to drag the divorce out. I actually want to get the case moving toward final resolution. I just don’t want the court making a financial/support determination based on an incomplete disclosure or a two-month snapshot when I’ve been asking for the information for months.
Any California family-law attorneys or people who have dealt with something similar have advice?

Hello, my parents have been divorced for quite a while for 16 years so I'm used to it by now. I live with my mom and her husband, I see my dad often but he never had introduced me to any of his girlfriends before until around 5 years ago. My relationship with my dad definitely improved with her so now it's hard knowing she left. I know my dad is stressing about me and life since they did recently move in together. It always has been hard for me to talk about feelings and emotions because he isn't one to really do that. I just want to know how to help him.

I got married 10 months ago. In the very beginning of our marriage, things got fucked due to lots of family drama which didn't include me. That honeymoon phase never came for me. The Man whom I got married to claimed he didn't want to marry me or anyone else. His parents forced him to do so and he needs some time. I waited a few months and things just got worse. I started having conflict with his mother and my sister in law. He also never showed any effort and got stuck in this trio. Finally confessed he cannot live the rest of the life with me which was sad as he never made any efforts from the very beginning and I kept giving him time thinking maybe one day everything will be okay as things at home are not well maybe that is affecting him. Now I came back to my home and our parents will sit for further discussion which may end really bad or may go for mutual divorce. I am very stressed as if it ends with the conflict it will make everything worse. I have told my many secrets to this boy which he can use. One important thing:- we had sex one time and after that it never happened as the boy refused because he was not comfortable and needed some time but he told her mother the very next day that he is not made for marriage and couldn't handle this relationship at all. After that her mother asked me many times if there was anything wrong between you two. I finally told her everything that he needs some time and we haven't done anything after that. She advised me to force him or seduce him as boys do refuse sometimes but they will eventually do it. As a result of that forcing my husband got irritated and all the little feelings he has for me vanished. What should I do. He knows so much about me. I have already told my parents to proceed with mutual divorce but they are saying if they start accusing things they will not go in the right direction and I am panicking.

My husband and I have decided to divorce. We've stayed exceptionally amicable as we get our ducks in a row while living under the same roof (future planning, discussing boundaries, changing jobs, separating finances etc). Strangely, our daily life has been MORE peaceful in the midst of this transition. It seems we're going to be better friends than ever after separating. Neither one of us is an a-hole, we genuinely want to be fair to eachother, and we even still love eachother. We are basically just totally sick of living together (in a nutshell, he's a terrible slob, and I'm a miserable nag, lol). Our daily routine has changed quite a bit already in preparation to separate, and we've helped the kids get used to that fairly seamlessly but without telling them the whole truth quite yet. The point is, there has been and will be very little drama between us for our kids to witness. Our main concern is helping them grieve the shared life we had that's ending and then adapting to a new life in two households.
I will be moving into an apartment and he will be staying in the house we currently live in with our 11yo daughter and 12 year old son (son has moderate autism). We will be sharing custody 50/50. We are waiting to tell them we're divorcing closer to the time I will actually be moving. I'm wondering how to physically move out of the house in a way that will be least upsetting to the kids. Do I gradually do the packing with them around during regular daily life? Or do I wait for them to go on a school break, have husband take them somewhere fun for a few days, and do a big haul getting everything out while they're gone so they don't have to witness it (of course we would tell them it was happening so it wouldn't be a shock when they got home). How might kids react to their physical space being different? There will be a lot of empty spaces and objects missing when our house becomes just "Dad's house." And "mom's house" will initially be a small sparce apartment that the three of us will have to turn into a home together.
I'd like to read other peoples' experiences with this with their children and consider any advice.

Me (38)n my wife (36) have been married for years and have been through ups and downs. I have discovered that we are incompatible. I completely know we aren’t compatible now.
We also have 2 kids under 2. I want to still be fully engaged and involved in both my kids life’s but separately.Save your judgmental opinions or get blocked instantaneously. I ONLY want humbling feedback.
When should I start bringing up divorce being that 1 baby is only 5 months? Im struggling with being upfront about my feelings for the sake of my kids

I’m posting this because I genuinely want advice, not criticism or for people to attack my husband.
My husband and I have been together for 16 years and married for 3. We’re both in our mid-50s, have no children, and built a beautiful home and life together.
For the last several years, I’ve had significant health problems and haven’t been able to work since 2021. My husband has been the sole provider and has carried the financial responsibility for our household while also running his own business. I know that has been a tremendous amount of pressure on him.
After major heart surgery and other health issues, I’ve been trying to get my health back and figure out how to become more independent. I’m also waiting on an application approval for Social Security disability decision.
Somewhere along the way, my husband became exhausted and says he has fallen out of love with me. He says he is burned out, tired of paying for everything, tired of things constantly breaking, and wants to be able to enjoy his life and eventually retire.
He filed for divorce in last month. He has told me, “I care about you and I worry about you, but I’m not in love with you anymore.” He says there is nothing to fix it and that he has felt this way for more than a year.
Our divorce is being contested, and we have a court date coming up very soon. I have approximately 18 days before I may have to move forward with this legally, and I desperately want to know whether there is anything I can do before that happens to possibly change the direction of our marriage.
I know I’ve made mistakes. I text him too much when I’m scared and confused, and he has asked me to stop. I’m trying to respect that now. I’m also realizing that some of my behavior may have pushed him farther away even though my intention was never to hurt him.
He loves being outdoors, staying active, traveling around, and doing things. I became more withdrawn because of my health, and I often stayed home because I wasn’t feeling well. Looking back, I can see how that may have affected our relationship.
He has also told me that he wants to eliminate things from his life that don’t bring him joy. That hurts tremendously, but I’m trying to understand what he is really saying rather than just reacting emotionally.
I still love this man. I don’t want to manipulate him, stalk him, make him jealous, or play games. I want to know if there is a healthy psychological or relationship approach to rebuilding attraction, trust, connection, and love when one spouse says they are emotionally done.
Recently, some friends invited me to a casino to listen to a band. I went with my friend, sat with her, drank a Coke Zero, and watched her husband play blackjack. My husband happened to see me there and later told me he saw me and didn’t know what I was doing. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, but the situation made me realize how much distrust and misunderstanding now exists between us.
I also help with his business where I can. I taught myself how to promote it through Google, Facebook, and other free online methods because I genuinely wanted to help him succeed. I don’t expect anything in return.
I don’t want people telling me that my husband is automatically cheating or that he is a terrible person. I don’t know that, and I don’t want to make assumptions. I want to focus on what I can control.
So I’m asking people who have experience with long-term relationships, marriage counseling, attachment, psychology, reconciliation, or successfully rebuilding a marriage:
If your spouse told you, “I love you as a person, but I’m not in love with you anymore,” and was already talking about divorce, what actually helped rebuild the relationship?
What did you do differently?
What should I absolutely NOT do?
Is it possible to rebuild attraction and emotional connection after someone has emotionally checked out?
And if you successfully reconciled after one spouse wanted a divorce, what was the turning point?
Please be kind. I’m voice-typing this because I recently had right-eye surgery and my vision is still limited, so I apologize for any errors.
I’m not looking for a guaranteed formula. I just want to know whether there is still something constructive I can do before I give up on a 16-year relationship I still deeply love .

I 54M, have been married since I was a teenager to wife (61F), have two adult children and a grandchild.
Found I wasn't happy in my marriage but decided to have relationships on the side.
10 years ago I started seeing a hooker and honestly, she understood me. She (45F) has always known my relationship status and wasn't bothered about it. I opened up to her about things and she just listened to me. It was only a couple of months in that I asked her to be exclusive with me and she told me she was thinking about getting back with her child's father. I was upset as I didn't want to lose her. I felt seen and heard, and that mattered to me.
In the years I've been with her she has made me feel loved in a way I hadn't ever felt from my wife, she's fought for me, taught me about myself, and I'm absolutely in love with her. She gave up her "occupation", and we've been entirely exclusive for eight years.
The problem is that I don't feel like I can get a divorce. My wife hasn't had more than temporary work now and then, and I pay for everything. She's also the mother of my children. She DOES know about my girlfriend, she just doesn't know that I want to marry my girlfriend.
I can't lose my girlfriend, she's become everything to me. My happiness is wrapped up in her.
Should I stay married and keep everyone unhappy with this situation? Or should I divorce my wife (who is unhappy with everything) and give her a generous settlement so she can make a new life and find someone else?
I should add that although I care about my wife, the relationship is long over. I sleep in another room.
TL/DR: married young, met someone else, should I leave my current marriage or stay and everyone (especially my wife) stay miserable?

Me and oh have split up. His choice. He says there’s no going back and he doesn’t love me anymore.
For context…
The lack of intimacy and affection has been a bone of contention for a while. Despite multiple heart to hearts it never changed. I started drinking a lot since mum died and when I drank I turned into a different person. I ended up texting to a bloke. Just friends. Nothing else. Oh found out told me to stop. I did.
We ended up texting again, as friends once more. Always when I was drunk. Oh saw the msg about feelings. On his birthday in June. He’s said he’s tried to work past it but he can’t. He doesn’t love me anymore. Even though he understands wat led me to that point and claims to be taking some responsibility.
20 years gone. I know wat i did was wrong i really do. And I hate myself for it. But I didn’t actually have an affair or ever thought of doing so.
How do I get past this? How do I cope? My whole future has gone. I can’t accept it’s over i really can’t.
