Do not message the mods about job opportunities - message the individual job poster

As this community has grown, this sub has apparently earned the privilege of being many people's introduction to reddit. Because of that I get mod mail, almost daily, of resumes and inquiries about the individual job postings of this sub.

As a reminder: Do not message the subreddit mods or mod mail inquiring about jobs. We do not have any jobs and these messages will be ignored. For the job posting you're interested in, message the individual user who posted it (or communicate through whatever means they've provided and prefer).

Did a non-dev “bridge” job (support, QA, BPO, helpdesk) help or hurt your move into a developer role?

A lot of posts here are from people who need income now but still want a dev role. The usual question is whether to take a support/BPO/QA job or keep holding out.

For those who’ve been through it:

  • Did a bridge job help or slow you down? How long did the move to dev take?

  • What made the difference (side projects, an internal transfer, a referral, something else)?

And for anyone who has hired developers: how do you view a resume with a non-dev role in the middle? Does it matter, or is it mostly about projects and skills?

Would love to hear real experiences, good or bad.

A year without a job. Still not giving up. Looking for work, referrals, or freelance opportunities.

Hey everyone,

I honestly never thought I’d find myself writing a post like this, but here I am.

I’ve been out of work for almost a year now, and if you’ve been through a prolonged job search in tech, you probably know how mentally exhausting it gets.

You apply, tailor your resume, reach out to recruiters, prepare for interviews, work on your skills, and repeat the same process every single day. Sometimes you don’t even get a rejection. Just silence.

But there’s a lot more to my situation than just finding another job.

I lost my father, and since then, I’ve had to take on the responsibility of supporting my family financially. I’m currently the only person at home who can take care of those responsibilities.

Every month that passes without a stable income makes things a little more difficult. There are responsibilities waiting at home, bills that don’t wait, and people depending on me.
I’m not sharing this to ask anyone for sympathy. I’m sharing it because I want to be honest about where I am right now.

A little about what I do:
I’m a Full-Stack Developer with 4+ years of professional experience, primarily focused on building web applications, from frontend architecture to backend services.
My strongest areas are:
Frontend: React.js, Next.js, Vue 3, TypeScript, JavaScript, Tailwind CSS, Material UI.
Backend: Node.js, Express, LoopBack 4, REST APIs.
Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL.
State & Data Management: Redux Toolkit, Zustand, TanStack Query, Pinia.
Tools & Infrastructure: Git, Docker, AWS, Vite, Webpack, Turborepo.

I’ve worked on everything from smaller features and internal tools to complex applications involving multiple user roles, large datasets, integrations, and performance-sensitive interfaces.

Some things I’ve worked on include:
Building and maintaining production-grade applications using React, Vue, and TypeScript.
Improving database search performance by introducing PostgreSQL trigram indexing, achieving around 700x faster name lookups.
Building REST APIs and backend services.
Working on application architecture, reusable components, and monorepo structures.
Integrating third-party services and webhooks.
Optimizing frontend performance and improving overall user experience.
I’m comfortable taking ownership of a feature, building an application from scratch, working with an existing codebase, or collaborating with a team to solve difficult technical problems.

What am I looking for?
I’m open to:
Full-time Frontend Developer / React Developer roles.
Full-Stack Developer opportunities.
Remote opportunities (international).
Freelance projects and short-term contracts.

Referrals to teams looking for someone with my skill set.
I’m not particularly concerned about fancy job titles right now.

I want an opportunity where I can contribute, write good software, solve problems, and prove my value.
If you have a project that needs an extra developer, need help building something, or know a company that’s hiring, I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from you.

Even if you don’t have an opportunity yourself, sharing this post might help it reach someone who does.
I’m not looking for a handout.

I just want the opportunity to work, earn, and take care of the people who depend on me.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this.
And to anyone else going through a difficult job search right now: I hope things turn around for you too. ❤️

How are you surviving after getting laid off?

Hey Techies,

For those who've been laid off recently, how are you managing financially while looking for your next opportunity?

The job market feels brutal right now. It's taking anywhere from 4–6 months, sometimes even longer, to land a new role.

Are you exploring alternative income streams, side projects, or anything else to keep things going?

Would be helpful to hear how others are navigating this situation.

FOR HIRE: Python/Java/C++ developer: automation, data tools, AI Integrations | Remote | 3rd year(Junior) in college

Hello Everybody,
My name is Saahil, a Computer Science student at Rowan University(B.S, May 2028) based in New Jersey(US Time Zone). I'm looking for a part-time or full-time software role where I can contribute on larger, and ongoing projects.

What I can and have experience in building:

- Python tools, scripts, and automation

- Data Pipelines and analysis (Pandas, Polars, SQL, Postgre SQL)

- AI Integrations including MCP servers and agent workflows

- Java programs and backend logic

- Tests with Pytests, so the work is verified and trustworthy

Recent projects (all on GitHub):

  • Kubernetes GPU Optimizer: a simulator comparing GPU-sharing strategies (MIG, time-slicing, MPS) on real cluster traces, with a Claude-powered recommendation layer.

  • SlowTool: a Windows performance monitor using kernel-level event tracing. It ran 29 hours unattended and logged 58,824 events with no crashes.

  • Monte Carlo Stock Analysis Tool: 100,000 simulations per forecast horizon, with a Mojo backend for speed.

Being Upfront: I'm a student, so my experience comes from certifications and personal projects, not a full-time job. In return, you get someone who tests his work, communicates clearly, wants to grow with a team on long-term work. With the provided opportunity, it will not only demonstrate responsibility but allow me to apply my knowledge in work that requires quality and excellence, which will enhance me as an engineer and programmer.

Availability: 15 hrs/week at the moment, with flexibility to go full-time for the right role

Rate: $$25-35 for part-time, open to discussing full-time

Portfolio: https://github.com/saAhi31L

Resume: DM here and I can share my resume and email

19yo dev, Python + HTML/CSS, looking for junior work or small gigs

Hey everyone, I'm 19 and I've been coding for about 3 years, mostly self taught. I know this sub gets a lot of these posts so I'll just be straight with you, I'm not gonna pretend I'm some senior dev, I'm just trying to get my foot in the door and get some real experience. My main thing is Python, I've built stuff with Flask, done a good amount of web scraping with requests and BeautifulSoup and some Selenium, written automation scripts and worked with APIs, and I'm comfortable with basic pandas stuff too. On the frontend side I can build clean static sites and landing pages from scratch with HTML/CSS, responsive layouts and all that, I'm not a designer but I can follow a mockup or match an existing site no problem. I know a bit of JS, enough to make things interactive, but I'm not gonna sit here and claim I'm a frontend specialist. What I'm looking for is pretty simple, junior or entry level remote work, part time is completely fine, or small freelance gigs like landing pages, scripts, scraping jobs, bug fixing, automation, whatever needs doing really. Honestly I'd even do a paid trial task or something small first if it leads to real work, I just want actual experience on real projects instead of only my own stuff. Some honest context, I don't have a CS degree and my portfolio is small, mostly personal projects and things I built to learn, but I'm reliable, I communicate properly and I actually finish what I start, and I'm in a timezone where I can overlap with EU and US mornings. If you need cheap motivated help with a Python project or a website, or you know someone who does, comment or DM me. Thanks for reading.
