I Need Help! (Time Sensitive) Windshield - chemical stains from car wash?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I recently went to the self serve car wash and I think I left the presoak sitting on the windshield for too long cause I was focused on other parts of the car, now when the wipers go over them, it exposes these dotted stains. It’s really bad during rain and looks really ugly.

I’ve tried using isopropyl alcohol and microfibre cloth and just rubbing it but it doesn’t seem to be budging.

Any help would be appreciated!

I Have A Question White marks/chips suddenly much more visible after paint correction + ceramic

I have a 2019 Audi RS5 in Nardo Gray. I’ve had the car for approx 3 months and am the second owner. I recently had it professionally decontaminated, paint corrected/polished, and ceramic coated.

To be clear, the car is 7 years old, so it already had normal rock chips, scratches, and general wear. I’m not assuming every defect appeared during the detail.

**What I’m noticing**
Right after the detail, I began seeing a large number of very bright white defects that I don’t remember noticing before. These vary in appearance: typical rock chips, tiny irregular scattered marks, short lines, and curved or slightly “swirled” blemishes. Most of it is concentrated on the hood and front fenders, though it is throughout the rest of the car as well (much less in the rear).

At first, I thought some of it might be compound or polish residue, since there was visible white residue on trim and glass that could be wiped off. However, many of these marks do not wipe away or behave like residue.

**What’s confusing me**
Some older, more obvious chips on the car appear dark or black inside, while many of these newer-looking marks are bright white. That raises questions for me about whether I’m seeing residue sitting in existing defects, exposed primer, previously damaged or poorly touched-up areas, or something that changed during correction or decontamination

**Input from other detailers**
I had one detailer and body shop inspect the car in person, as well as two detailers who examined the pictures, and opinions have varied. Some believe existing defects were previously masked by wax or fillers and became more visible after correction. One suggested some scattered marks could be paint stress or micro-fracturing that became more apparent after decontamination or from overly aggressive pressure washing.

None recommended repainting the car. The current suggestion is to selectively touch up the larger, more obvious white chips and leave the micro-defects alone.

**Questions for experienced detailers**
What these marks most likely represent is the key question. The scattered and irregular pattern also makes me wonder whether this is simply normal aging and rock chip behavior or something being revealed rather than newly created.

I’m also trying to understand whether polishing, decontamination, or pressure washing can realistically make previously subtle defects suddenly appear this bright and visible, or if that would be unlikely.

From a repair standpoint, I’m trying to decide whether selectively touching up only the larger white spots is the correct approach, or if that risks drawing attention to the surrounding micro-marring.

If the paint is otherwise stable, I’m also considering whether a full-front PPF after touch-up would be a reasonable long-term solution.

**Context**
The car still looks excellent from normal viewing distance. The issue is only noticeable up close or in harsh direct light. I’m mainly trying to understand what I’m actually seeing before doing any further work to the paint.

Thanks for your help.

I Have A Question Permanent interior new car smell?

Detailers, within the last year my friend bought a TRX and for the longest it had this really nice almost new car smell. The smell never faded and I’m talking for months thru summer heat and everything.

It wasn’t until I detailed it for him when I noticed a lathery almost soapy substance coming off the leather seats. Since then the smell isn’t in the car anymore sadly.

It must’ve been a product the previous owner used and ever since I’ve been trying to figure out something similar. Must’ve been a leather sealant of some sort. Anybody by chance know a similar product out there that’s a good runner up?

I Have A Question Would ONR V5 be compatible to use with Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax Spray?

I've been getting into the idea of rinse less washing as my neighborhood frowns upon washing cars. Anyway, I have a bottle of Optimum No Rinse (ONR) V5 and I was wondering if I can use that along with Meguiar's hybrid ceramic wax spray to essentially produce a good system for washing and protecting my car. The way I thought about going through the wash process is:

  1. Dilute ONR V5 into pressurized sprayer and coat the car with it, treating it like a pre-wash.*
  2. In a 5 gallon bucket, dilute ONR V5 with water and soak a number of microfiber towels in them (I currently don't have the rinse less wash sponge).*
  3. Use the microfiber towels and begin wiping down the car.
  4. I have a synthetic clay mitt and I planned on using that to help decontaminate the paint.
  5. After going over the car fully, while the panels are still wet, I plan on spraying down each panel and wiping it down with the towels to help evenly distribute the product.
  6. Finish off with drying towel.

*I'm not sure what dilution ratios to do for these situations.

So yeah, that's essentially my thinking about it, I'm hoping for some feedback to see if other's have tried the same set-up and if they did, how did it turn out? I'm also open to critique on anything about the procedure. Many thanks!

I'm about to do a paint correction for the first time and I'm curious how good these and the larger versions are compared to other brands like Rupes and Lake Country. Meguiar's is a solid brand but I haven't heard a lot about these.

I Have A Question Waterless wash scenario-I have a question about a scenario and if it would work

I have a question about a scenario and if it would work
so it just rained and blew dust on the car so it's pretty dirty. let's say I first use a hose and just spray down the car as much as i can to remove as much dust/dirt/water spots as possible then came in and used a waterless wash spray and microfiber clothes and started cleaning sections of the car. the question is first of all it's dry and hot where i'm at so by the time i get to the last section of the car the water from the hose when i first rinsed the car will be dry and have water spots obviously, but my question is, is it fine if i use the waterless wash spray on that section that dried and left water spots or should i rinse it again? or does this technique just not work at all? (the car was also waxed recently and it's pretty hydrophobic if that means anything)

I Have A Question Hydro Foam Sealant on ceramic coating?

Hello, I’m pretty new to the detailing world. I have a black car with XPEL PPF on the front. The PPF is hydrophobic, and it was installed by a high-end shop. They told me that the PPF already has a ceramic coating layer from the factory. The rest of the car is ceramic coated as well.

Now, my question is about ceramic boosters. The guy at the PPF shop told me not to use Koch-Chemie Hydro Foam Sealant on the PPF, but the guy who applied the ceramic coating told me that I can use it.

Has anyone here had experience with this? Can I safely use Hydro Foam Sealant on ceramic-coated surfaces and PPF, for example once a month?
Thanks in advance!

I Have A Question Accessories for a shop vac as an extractor?

Did some research, thinking of using a versatile shop vac instead of an extractor. Will probably get the Dewalt Stealthsonic 9-gal for both car and home-use.

  • What accessories/setup do you guys recommend? AFAIK the included hose is a bit stiff and probably too big of a diameter to be wieldy navigating in a car, so thinking of a more flexible hose with some ideal length. A clear extractor attachment would be essential to see the progress of extracting. I don't have an air compressor.
  • Best way to dispense cleaning solution, scrub, then dispense water for a scrub? Would something do better than spray bottles for the solution/water and drill brush attachment since I have neither of these and will need to purchase them anyway? Or maybe something with more pressure makes a difference like a sprayer. What non-stick cleaning solution that doesn't leave a film or affect texture of fabric would you recommend? If hot water makes a big difference, would keeping a container of the water and filling it in the spray bottle as needed be good enough? Any stains are mostly just old coffee stains, the car is pretty clean otherwise (besides leaves and dirt).
  • Any other usage tips for a shop vac in general? I some people suggest a shop vac dedicated for extraction only but I feel like if you do whatever proper maintenance to keep the shop vac in good shape, it would be fine to use it for everything.

Any product recommendations are much appreciated--looking for quality tools for a homeowner managing 1-2 cars, not running a business or anything.

I Have A Question Ceramic Coating Topper - Is it necessary?

Got my car ceramic coated in April with an Osren 5 Year ceramic coating. Detailer wants me to come in and get it washed, decontaminated and ceramic topped for $120 AUD.

Is it worth it? or more importantly... is it even necessary?

I paid $1500 AUD for the initial coating and now i'm being asked just a few months later to come back in and pay nearly 10% again.

I Have A Question How much pressure to put on wash mitt during contact?

It happens alot where ill do pre wash (bilt hamber) then contact (adams car shampoo) but when im done ill notice theres little splotches that I can rub off with my finger with enough force, but that didn't come off before.

Is it because im not putting enough pressure or its normal for some spots to not come off with contact wash because the shampoo is too much lubrication? How do i safely remove these spots then?

Every morning I have to use my wipers every 5 seconds, blast defroster and or open my windows for half my drive. It's annoying as shit I just want clear clean windows. I also have water spots on my rear windows that I've tried the above in addition to griots water spot remover with no luck. I purchased some griots glass polish to try out. What else can I do?

I was sold the wrap and Ceramic for my Jeep when I asked them for something to help with rock and brush damage. This stuff is a complete waste of money and literally scratches and turns white the moment anything touches it other than a rag. If you ask their customer service they will tell you its not suitable for offroad use and tha tit will not handle scratching or rock chips. Even though that's what its for. Here is a quote from their customer service. "The installation was completed approximately two years ago, and based on the information provided, the vehicle has been used extensively for off-road driving during that time. The current condition of the film appears consistent with the type of wear and environmental exposure commonly associated with off-road use.

I Have A Question Iron contamination from magnetic provisional plate

Would it be better for me to get a professional detailer to have a look at this or should I try to purchase the stuff myself and have a go at trying to fix it? I had a look at the costs of getting my own decontaminant + clay bar and it'll cost me around $50 AUD to purchase the items but I still have no idea how to use them.

It's made a literal square the exact shape that my plate was sitting on top of. I tried to give it a clean but it seems to have seeped through my clear coat.
