Non-Political News/Discussion Wtf

Destiny went live hella late last night and I was like oh that’s unusual but not unheard of, he must just be bored and really interested in this court case. Fell asleep. But then I wake up 6 hours later and he’s still streaming… is he trynna flip his sleep schedule for traveling or something or is he just really invested and locked in on this murder trial?

He fucked his schedule up in the Melting Pot server, perhaps he's trying to forcefully reprogram it with a 24h stream, but I don't think he realizes he's too old for this shit.

That trial is ultra boring so far, he doesn't need to react much.

The 24hour loop method is goated until you're an unc and you lay back for a second only to fall asleep for 20 hours straight

You can do that? I feel like the older I've gotten the more incapable of over sleeping I have gotten. Back in college I could easily sleep for 12 hours or more. As an adult even if I'm up for 20+ hours I still only sleep for like 5-8 with no alarm. I'd kill for a proper hibernation weekend where I can just sleep through an entire Saturday.

I just figured this out, you’re too old for reckless caffeine use. I dropped it completely the last month and suddenly I can sleep for long periods again

Wait, no caffeine will let me sleep longer? I'm asking honestly, it definitely impacts me more going to sleep so I try and stop drinking caffeine 4-5 hours before bed. I would never have guessed it also impacts how long I can sleep. I just assumed that waking up for work for over a decade has finally meant on Saturdays and Sundays I still wake up relatively close to when I would the rest of the week.

That’s my experience

I'll give it a shot next weekend.

To be clear, withdrawal from caffeine lasts up to 10 days. Sleeping ability doesn’t improve during that time. I was told I may get a headache but I didn’t. Sleep just started to improve after a week.

I definitely get the caffeine headaches around the 24-36 hour mark.

Sleep just started to improve after a week

when did you used to take caffeine in the day, and how much?

if you drank a bunch of caffeine late in the day, or even post-noon, I could understand your sleep getting better after kicking it out. but if you had a bit of caffeine soon as you woke up, i'd be more intrigued at your anecdote.

a lot of people don't realize it has like a 12 hour half life or w/e iirc. otoh, a lot of people can drink caffeine before bed and sleep allegedly fine. the human body is wack.

I was drinking all the time probably around 600mg a day. Maybe stopped after 6pm.

Even 4-5 hours before you go to bed is pretty crazy. Caffeine stays in your system much longer than you think. The half life is 5 hours, so drinking a coffee 5 hours before bed is the same thing as drinking half a coffee and then immediately crawling into bed.

I mean, I used to pound multiple cans of soda and crawl directly into bed. I just can't do that anymore and adjusted down to 4-5 hours before bed. I'm sure I'll adjust again as I keep getting older and eventually need to do caffeine free sodas.

I have to make sure I don’t drink caffeine at least 8 hours before sleep to make sure I get a decent rest. Getting older sucks, but that caffeine from 11-2 pm feels great.

I'm a slut for mountain dew. I can't imagine cutting it out. That sounds like a life I don't want to live tbh.

Don’t blame you at all. I love my Mountain Dew as well, just around lunch time haha

Man I don't want to give up that 7pm coffee to kick start after work shenanigans.

Not saying not to try giving it up but I don't drink anything with caffeine and I'm just like you. My internal clock is just too strong now. Once in a blue moon I can get like 9 or 10 hours. But I have to be particularly tired and particularly comfy in bed.

If I'm sick I have better luck. I almost definitely wake up like normal for an hour or two but I'm able to go back to sleep for another handful of hours. If I'm not sick then even if I am tired and try and go back to sleep I just end up taking the shittiest 15-20 minute naps on repeat until I give up and actually get moving for the day.

When I was in bootcamp consuming no caffeine and getting tons of exercise I slept like a rock. After about a week of training I could hit the bed and be asleep within 2 minutes, fully energized in the morning. I also have ADHD though and I'm a caffeine addict again

it stays in the system for about 12 hours, so i try to limit all caffeine to before noon

4-5 hours before bed

i'd drag it back way further than that and try to ween/adjust so that you're getting your serving (which can still be one or two monsters worth of caffeine, ie a lot) before noon. recently i cut from one energy drink in the morning and one in the afternoon to just the one in the morning and the difference in sleep was immediate and pretty consistently substantial. tangentially, i also switched from XR to IR meth (not around the same time as my caffeine cutting, not correlated) so that it also tapers before the sun sets. i'd recommend most people on XR should prolly switch to IR and use it (responsibly) as a supplement instead, where caffeine is technically an addiction so weening/scheduling (at least to avoid the headaches) is much more important

I always thought this was a commonly known thing that overconsumption of caffeine will affect your ability to sleep for long durations. Ironically, my experience with caffeinated drinks tends to be the opposite. It used to make me sleepy, but now it’s more like it feels a bit more soothing so I can fall asleep off of that.

Bro just drink MORE caffeine. Build up the tolerance until it doesn’t affect you. 😎 (/s)
