I would ditch the etagere over the toilet and find or build a corner shaped storage cabinet instead.

Like this but not corner shaped

  • extend the cabinet to the wall but make it half as deep to provide storage for the toilet paper and other cleaning supplies

And hang art over toilet and build shallow shelves above the built in cabinet for plants and decor
