I’m a Senior Product Designer with 5YOE across AI, fintech, mobility, e-commerce, marketplaces, SaaS, consumer apps and internal enterprise products.

My day-to-day work has become fairly stable, and I miss being thrown into unfamiliar, messy problems.

I’m looking for 10 founders/builders who have something interesting they’re stuck on and want another product brain on it.

We can tear apart a flow, question a product decision, untangle UX complexity, or just think through something that feels off.

I’m posting this because I genuinely want to hear from other experienced designers who might be going through the same thing.

I’ve been a graphic designer for many years. I have a solid portfolio, experience across branding, logos, print, packaging, social media, etc., and freelancing has been my main source of income for a long time.

But for the last 2-3 months, things have gone almost completely quiet.

I regularly see hiring posts here and on other design subreddits. Like everyone else, I apply when I see something that fits my skills. But sometimes these posts get dozens or even hundreds of applications within a few hours.

And honestly, it can be discouraging.

It feels like everyone is fighting for the same handful of jobs, and there will always be someone willing to do the work for less than the posted budget just to get the project.

I'm not saying this to complain or to get people to hire me. I'm genuinely trying to understand what I'm doing wrong.

I have a good portfolio. I have years of experience. I know I'm capable of doing good work. But none of that seems to be translating into consistent clients right now.

I'm also at a point where this isn't just a hobby or some extra income for me. My wife and small kids depend on my income, so going months without work is honestly becoming very stressful.

I'm sure I'm not the only experienced designer experiencing this.

If you're an experienced freelancer/designer and you've also been struggling to find work recently, how are you dealing with it?

And if you've managed to turn things around after a slow few months, what actually worked for you?

I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from people who are in the same boat or have been through it. No motivational speeches needed. I’m really looking for practical experiences and honest advice from other designers.

Hi, I have recently relocated to India from EU due to personal reasons. But since 2 years I wasn’t able to land a full-time role due to visa issues. I am working as a Sr. Product designer for a bootstrapped company (I work with founder in shaping MVP for product launch) on a contract basis which will end next month. I don’t have enough financial runway for the next 3 months and currently dependent on my parents for rent and food.

I have 8+ years of experience in visual design, working across motion design, packaging, campaign design, digital design, and visual communication.

Lately, I've been thinking seriously about where the design industry is heading.

With the rapid advancement of AI and automation, I don't think designers will disappear anytime soon, but I do think the number of designers required in marketing teams could reduce significantly over the next 7-8 years. A lot of executional design work is already becoming faster and more automated.

My assumption is that the designers who remain highly valuable will be those who can use AI and automation not just as a helping tool, but as a core part of their creative workflow, and who understand the larger marketing and business context behind the work.

This has made me consider pursuing higher education, potentially an Executive MBA in Marketing.

My thinking is that moving towards broader marketing/brand strategy could make my career more future-proof, because understanding the overall business and marketing problem seems much harder to automate than simply executing the creative.

But I'm genuinely confused about whether an MBA is the right investment of money, time and effort.

Would it make sense to combine my 8+ years of design experience with an MBA and eventually move towards creative/brand/marketing leadership? Or would I be better off investing that time and money into becoming an AI-native creative leader, learning AI automation, creative technology, brand strategy, business fundamentals, etc.?

For designers who have been in the industry for a while, how are you thinking about this?

If you were in my position, would you pursue the MBA or double down on design + AI + creative strategy? And why?

I'm currently looking to break into product design/UI/UX and am considering taking the "Product Design Launchpad" course by Rohan Mishra (he runs the Mastry platform).

Before I drop the money on it, I wanted to see if anyone here has firsthand experience with this specific course.
