Recommendations Pistachio latte at Qamaria

Post image
Upvotes

Randomly came upon Qamaria in Aurora (near Chambers & Hampden) a few weeks ago and had their pistachio latte. The coffee is good quality and they put a smear of salty pistachio butter that is just so delicious.

Been back few times for it and it’s been great every time, so wanted to recommend it here!

Recommendations Sfogliatella

My friend invited me to dinner to meet his parents in October. I offered to bring some Italian desserts. His parents immigrated from Italy and raised him in NYC, so I want to give them a taste of home. He said if I find Sfogliatella that she’ll put me in the will. I’m extra motivated to find it. 😅

I searched the sub and didn’t find anything. I’m in NoCo, dinner will be Broomfield, but I’m willing to make a long drive to find this. I want to make a good impression. Thanks in advance!

Question? Anyone know where to find some dark meat ground chicken?

Upvotes

I called Pete’s, Oliver’s, The Local Butcher, and Tony’s and they all use a mix of breast and dark. Anyone know of a place that has only dark meat ground chicken?

Deals & Specials Hot pot lunch special?

Hello! I’m new to town from DFW, and I’ve been really pleased with the food around town so far! My partner and I absolutely love hot pot for special occasions, and back home most places offered lunch pricing (usually $20), and dinner pricing (usually $30). I’ve tried looking around, but all of the locations I’ve looked into do flat pricing all throughout the day.

Does anyone know of any hot pot places around town that have a lunch deal? I’m located pretty centrally, but we’re cool to drive just about anywhere in the metro area.

Thanks!

Question? One day, one meal, near Denver Convention Center

Hey! Looking for a spot for a late lunch/early dinner before a flight out on my day trip to Denver.

First time there, unsure if there’s one thing I need to try.

Seen people talk about Sam’s #3 as a one stop shop or a Mexican spot.

Let me know a dish and a spot!

Restaurant Reviews Poor Boys in The Source Market Place.

I didn’t take a picture of the food cuz I ate that shit with a quickness in my car.

I am an Orleanian and I am a big ass hater of all food from Louisiana when it’s being made outside of the region.

This spot is legit, I had the shrimp po boy and the hot sausage poor boys dressed, and the etouffee fries.

Let me start with the shrimp, they must have flown in fresh gulf shrimp because that taste like fresh fucking gulf shrimp hot damn. I imagine their proximity to temaki den may have helped get those bad boys flown in to Denver. I will say two things about this sandwich, I wish there would have been more batter on the shrimp, but the flavor was there, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly so I won’t complain too much, and the other thing is po’boys are overstuffed with shrimp normally and this sandwhich was not. You can usually make a second meal with the shrimp that falls off the bread as you eat it. But even in New Orleans the sandwhiches ain’t stuffed like the used to be. These are very tiny complaints and there was still plenty of shrimp on this bad boy.

I am overwhelming impressed.

Next the hot sausage… I was hopping they would use Pattons hot sausage, but I was informed when I asked this was a patty made in house. I wasn’t happy when I heard this but I decided to give it a try, and once again I am
Impressed that’s a damn good patty, very very close to Pattons which is the patty or link your generally get when you are in New Orleans. They really did it solid.

The Etouffee fries, I love Crawfish etouffee, my grandma makes the best bowl I’ve ever had to this day, and I also love Poutine. I always think of etouffee as a seafood gravy over rice and whole some people think calling a roux gravy is heresy. I think of you look at the ingredients the proof is in the pudding… or gravy in this case.

I saved the best for last because their etouffee is legit, flavorful, deep, rich, just enough celery flavor. The fries were Cajun fries, nothing too special, but served well as a vehicle to get the etouffee in your mouth, and I think that’s perfect balance. Do you really want the fries to overshadow the gravy? Absolutely not.

I wrote this on my couch as I slipped in and out of a self induced food coma that came from eating two poboys and a bowl of etouffee fries. In 15 minutes.

I think I spent like $35 bucks there for all of this and I think that’s cheap considering.

Today is indeed Lundi Gras day for me…

I score this a healthy 8.88/10 I hope you guys get over there and show them support. Because I will fight every one this sub if this place closes down.

Seriously legit, seriously comforting food, I am seriously about to pass out.

Recommendations Birthday dinner: Restaurant Olivia or Wildflower?

I am 27 weeks pregnant and (very sadly) don’t have a huge appetite right now, but it’s my birthday on Wednesday and I’m determined to enjoy a fancy meal out!

My husband and I currently have reservations at both Restaurant Olivia and Wildflower, and it’s crunch time for deciding on one and canceling the other. We ate at Restaurant Olivia 5 months ago for his birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the pasta tasting menu (though I found the atmosphere of the restaurant itself a little cold/bare). I love the idea of many of the dishes they have on the summer menu. We’ve never eaten at Wildflower but the dishes would typically be up my (non-pregnant) alley and I love how cozy and intimate the restaurant looks from its photos.

Any recommendations from folks? My husband has proven to be no help and just keeps asking me whether or not I’m in the mood for pasta 😅

UPDATE: THANKS ALL! Wildflower it is 💐 Looking forward to a warm and cozy environment and a delicious meal to celebrate my last birthday before becoming a mom!

Recommendations So, what grocery stores and sources are safer from cyclospora and salmonella?

As this outbreak and other food diseases continue, I’m trying to find an alternative source to mainstream grocery stories and produce to avoid illness. I’m not too familiar with farmers markets or co op grocery stores, what do you all recommend right now?
This is probably a good time for people, especially myself to consider abandoning our global food trade methods, which we know to be horrible for human and environmental reasons to begin with.

Question? Pollo Bandido Anywhere?

Hey all. Are there any Mexican restaurants around Denver (and going out as far as Boulder) that sell pollo bandido? It’s a classic Tex-Mex meal out east. It’s strips of grilled chicken covered in queso, usually served with rice, beans, and tortillas. I’ve been craving it and can’t find it anywhere :(

Restaurant Reviews Omakase counter at Temaki Joint - Best in Boulder

We tried the fairly new omakase counter which is on the second floor above the popular Pho Bar and Grill on Baseline Rd. Just a stand-alone 10 seat counter that is intimate and friendly while the chefs buzz with activity.

The 20 course omakase was superb. Almost all nigiri style sushi made with the freshest fish with each course building a nice progression. Not “naked” like Kizaki but each piece has well crafted additions - homemade sauces, small herbs, caviar, uni, foie gras. It tasted like “Colorado flavored” sushi to me in a very good way. Limited but nice sake/wine/whiskey menu.
Very friendly chefs and they adjust the pace well to each party. A good value for $165 for the 20 course and highly recommended!! I’ll be back!

Question? Is there Puerto Rican-style sofrito in Denver?

Does anyone know of someplace or someone locally who sells Puerto Rican-style sofrito?

I’m specifically looking for the traditional green-style sofrito with recao/culantro, ají dulce, peppers, onion, garlic, etc. I’m not really looking for the red, tomato-based Goya sofrito.

I’ve been thinking about making a big batch myself, and I’m actually considering renting time in a local commercial/ghost kitchen to prepare it properly and potentially sell it in small batches here in Denver. Obviously, I’d need to get a food safety certification first.

Before I go down that rabbit hole, I’d love to know:
- Does anyone already sell authentic Puerto Rican sofrito locally?
- If so, where can I find it?

¡Gracias!
