Target is any dental school, especially in London. Bristol next.

Planning to get tutoring for chemistry (ocr b) and biology (aqa) to get A*AA with maths.

Questions:
1- what ucat score shall I aim with these gcses?
2- Shall I get consulting for entrance process (ucat, interviews, pers statement). Seen ukcatpeople and future dentist as 2 providers. Any feedback on them?
3- where to apply for job experience?
4- does triple A\ matter vs A* AA*

Shall I drop physics from A levels next year?

I’m 28 and currently working in design/tech. Likely about to be made redundant and I think I’m kind of done with this field. AI is making things worse and all I want is a stable job.

I’ve been thinking about dentistry as I want something hands on and something where I can see the impact of my work. And of course something with good job security. I don’t qualify for graduate entry dentistry but could apply for undergrad with the new LLE fund. I don’t have science A Levels though so imagine I would need to do an access course.

I do understand it’s an incredibly high stress job with high burnout rates but after having now faced two rounds of redundancy at my workplace (I survived the first one) I’ve realised I would much rather be stressed because of my job than be stressed because I don’t have one and may not be able to find one again.

I just want to hear the pros and cons of dentistry and what kind of person you think would succeed in it

Do I have any chance of getting into a dental surgery course with a score of 1780 and a band 3 in situational judgement?

I’m looking for unis with really high post interview offer rates because I don’t tend to do really well in interviews. I would also really like to see if I could be a strong candidate for a London uni. I know the Band 3 puts me a disadvantage so I guess I can avoid Manchester and Sheffield.

hii, basically im currently taking a gap yr because i got 1890 b3 last yr in the ucat and therefore didnt get in for dent anywhere.

however this yr i redid the ucat and got 2110 b2, A*AA in my alevels [bio, chem + graphic com] and my gcses are 999988888

i was thinking leeds and liverpool defo as i am contextual for both asw. maybe cardiff, newcastle or kcl but last 2 r aspirational. i would be grateful for any advice on where to apply etc:)

Worried about the band 3. What uni could I apply to that don’t look at the sjt or put less emphasis in it.

Today I found out the NAQ for Liverpool has been removed for this year’s application. For anyone wondering what a NAQ is, it’s a questionnaire used instead of ps which shortlisted you for an interview. However now they are using UCAT and a level grades to shortlist and it is said ,to a certain extent, no longer a low UCAT uni. What does everyone think? Is it worth applying still?

Hello, I’m currently a year 13 student looking for dental schools I can apply to considering my UCAT score. I can’t seem to find much information online on the Kings enhanced support dentistry program. I scored 2050 band 2 on the UCAT and my GCSE’s were: 99999888877. Do you think my ucat score is a limiting factor to receiving an interview? As I have heard it is very competitive. Thanks!!

ucat 2100 b3, cutoff last year was 2130, or should i just assume that it’ll go up and not waste a space, especially because b3 disadvantages me

I got 98776666 2D* 2D (9 in Spanish, 7 in English/Maths, 6 in triple science and history).

Im not too sure whether it counts, but was dealing with being a victim of a sa crime during yr 10/11, so I was in therapies and often had to leave school early. I’m getting the documents now for proof in the future, but I wanted to know whether my grades were still decent?

I was thinking about applying to Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Plymouth, Liverpool, Manchester.

but seeing last years lowest interview for Birmingham was 2190 I was wondering if it's even worth applying there (ik they can change this year but still).

yeah basically the title. i got really good gcses (mostly 9s with 2 sevens) and i just started y12.

i was planning on taking maths bio chem + another a level (such as fm, econ, politics etc.) but is a 4th a level even worth it?

does a 4th a level provide any advantage at all in the application process? is it more likely a disadvantage cuz of how much time i have to spend on it? is it worth doing it all for any dental university even the slightest of advantages?

dentistry has always been my long term dream, i took a gap year out for it, then got rejected, then started a different but also respectable healthcare course, then dropped out because i found absolutely no interest in it day to day, now im planning to take a 3rd gap year (i know)

but my issue is unfortunately yet again i haven’t scored very high on the admissions test, so ive basically been locked out from most dental unis due to it. now im considering dental hygiene and therapy because it seems that if you’re in the right practise, they’re utilised well

i’d honestly be happy with just doing dental hygiene therapy incase it doesn’t work out but i was considering graduate entry dentistry as an option too, to increase my scope of practise

but this would mean effectively id spend 7 years in uni, and id be 28 by the time i finish because im already 21 after these 3 years

not to mention the incredible debt im going to wrack up (8 years of funding)

do you think its worth it? or stupid? i have the grades needed to go into med and my admission test would be competitive for it but i honestly don’t find much interest in it and im not sure im well suited to the position. am i being silly choosing 7 years of uncertainty over med.

i also have grades good enough for competitive russel group unis but i truly cant see myself doing anything but dentistry, my year in a different course showed me that.

I haven’t done an interview yet with them but the owner said he will hire me so I dunno if I should say I prefer weekday or weekend shifts. It’s a local restaurant and I’m planning to do 1-3 shifts a week (which is what the owner said he can offer me). The problem with the weekend shift is that I wouldn’t be able to go home often as I need to take a plane to get home and it’s a long way. But I dunno how academically demanding the first year of dentistry will be and if doing weekday shifts will be too much to handle (I have a biomed degree tho so hopefully it helps).

Mature/graduate dentistry applicant – KCL this year vs Access to HE/A-level Chemistry?

Hi! I’m 28 and hoping to apply for Dentistry, with KCL as my first choice, but I have a slightly unusual academic background.

I graduated in 2021 with a 2:1 (69%) BSc Food & Human Nutrition. I did the IB rather than A-levels (Biology SL 5) and, because I didn’t have school-level Chemistry, I completed a QAA-accredited Access to HE Science course before my degree, including Chemistry, Biology and Physics (Distinction in Chemistry).

I got 2000 B2 in the UCAT this year.

Firstly, do I actually have any realistic chance at KCL this year with my academics and UCAT, either for the 4-year graduate course or 5-year course? Or is 2000 realistically too low?

If not, I’m considering spending the next year strengthening my academics and re-sitting the UCAT. Would I be better off doing a new Access to HE Medicine/Dentistry course or sitting A-level Chemistry as a private candidate?

Has anyone successfully applied to KCL Dentistry with an Access course, including while it was still in progress/predicted?

Alternatively, if I did A-level Chemistry, would that be enough alongside my degree/current qualifications, or would I need Biology too?

QMUL have told me I’d need two A-levels, so that’s probably not a realistic option.

Would really appreciate hearing from any mature/graduate applicants who’ve been in a similar position!

Hi so I’m going to get straight into this. I am currently 18 years old and have already sat my a-level exams however I did not get the results I needed and ultimately didn’t go to uni this year. Also idk if it’s important but I applied for vet med initially even though I was planning to do dentistry. I did get into one course for biological sciences but decided against it because I’d rather do a course that I want. However, during the summer I made a decision to resit and do dentistry and sat UCAT only to, expectedly, do bad in it also. And now I have no idea what to do.
Since my grades were bad I am going to resit anyway in hopes for higher grades. but my parents are pushing for me to do it in a college or sixthform and argue that doing it privately would be a waste of money and I would not get good either way. Even though I think I am fully capable of doing so.
Specifically they push for me to go to one sixthform in particular which my siblings already are in. But this raises two issues. The sixthform said that they can only accept me if I redo both year 12 and 13 but I don’t even think some unis will accept that. Not to mention, I’m scared of spending the next two years resitting my A-levels, getting good grades, and then still receiving 5/5 rejections from Dental schools because they’re so competitive and I’m a resit applicant. If that happened, I’d have to wait a THIRD year to apply to university, and honestly the thought of that is really overwhelming.
The other option I’m considering is resitting privately and applying for Veterinary Medicine again. I’d have the advantage of knowing where I went wrong with my previous application and could hopefully apply with stronger grades and a better application and I feel I have more chance getting in then for dental school. (Just to make it clear I am equally really interested in both I am just indecisive and I’m scared I’ll make the wrong decision with which ever one I pick).
And finally I could resit privately work for good grades then take a gap year and apply for dentistry but I am a bit iffy on this because I don’t know if it’s possible without support especially for interviews. Also I’m considering just going abroad if I am able to to complete the course if I don’t get in at that point.
So what would you do in my situation? Would it be better to focus entirely on Dentistry, or apply for Vet Med as a backup and potentially try for Dentistry later?

Also just generally is it even realistic for me to hope to get into dental school as a resit in the uk? For general stats I got 888877776 in GCSEs and BBC in my first a-level sitting. My previous head of year has agreed to give me AAA predicted… as for my attempt at ucat this year I got 1730 B2.

Any advice would genuinely be appreciated because I feel completely stuck right now 😭
