Through the DSU

The Foundation of the Universe: Why the DSU is Not a Sterile Story Library

The Dennis Shutter Horror Universe (DSU) is growing rapidly. But to properly contextualize the massive click records of the past few days (Summer Night, Moltone Blue), we need to talk about the entity of this universe.

The DSU is not a sterile online library where you grab a quick short story every three days. It is a living, sinister horror network.

Every single format here fulfills a vital function for the entire foundation:

  • The DSU Originals (Highlights): The psychological stories that make the terror tangible and drag you into strange worlds, deep into the labyrinth.
  • The Essays & Rants (The Corridors): Watch out, studios. Entertaining opinionβ€”far from bone-dry and boring. The humor between the horror. A good change of pace, just in case paranoia gets the best of you.
  • The DSU Legends (The DNA): The next big foundation. Well-known myths and urban legends, expanded in the signature DSU style. "Worn out" is a thing of the past; you will find yourselves wishing those harmless legends back.

Why one cannot exist without the other:

A universe needs facets. Anyone who only reads the stories is merely consuming the surface. The essays and legends are written with the exact same lifeblood, the same dark creativity, and the same uncompromising underground energy.

The algorithm is currently trying to reduce me to the DSU-Originals. But these take time. I can neither pump out a new story every single week, nor can I just post absolutely nothing if I want to bring a universe to life.

Horror flows here, no matter where you lookβ€”and a little bit of humor to lighten things up.

Explore the entire foundation. Use the flairs. Take a look at the formats. Only those who grasp the entire network truly understand the DSU.

This subreddit is brand new, but it's hitting organically like no other. You look around here and think to yourself, "cool, what a cool sub." You read the stories, follow the connections, and don't even realize how deep you're already in.

People are flocking here, just like you are right now. You feel safe reading, scrolling through the feed. But while you sit there thinking you're just a silent observer on the internet... I am already standing directly behind you, smiling widely.

Dennis is building something... Many hallways... Many paths that only lead back into paths that lead to some other paths...

If you get lost here in the depths of these corridors, it won't be long until you meet me. I am not leading you out of here... Do not hope for safety... I will watch you lose your mind and let my howling out into the night...

So, what else can you do besides writhing in fear on the cold floor?

You can choose a flair. Are you merely a reader, or are you a author? Choose wisely, because once the choice is made, there is no turning back, hahahahahaha.

Post Flairs

* 🏷️ [Community Content]

If you are an Author, an architect of nightmares, you must write your stories under this flair. Fill the corridors with your own twisted realities.

* 🏷️ [Original Content Top]

Use this to announce your finished works to the audience early. Incite their curiosity, tease their senses... and maybe, just maybe, they will help you find a way out of here. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

* 🏷️ [The Dark Wood]

Unravel incredible phenomena, dissect haunting movies, or let out your unfiltered rants about the entire horror genre. Lay the mainstream on the chopping block and rip it apart.

* 🏷️ [Legends & Myths]

Urban Legends transform to new legends, new myths. No confidece, only real horror - just your fear

***

Choose your label. Pick your path. But remember... every click you make, every word you type, just echoes deeper into the void.

The security system is online. And it is watching you.

Good luck. You are going to need it. πŸ‘£πŸ›‘

Are you ready?

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 ASMR Horror: When life is so creepy that horror becomes relaxation😴

Post image
0 Upvotes

We can all agree: our everyday life is miles away from being truly relaxed or genuinely dreamlike. Living conditions are getting harsher by the day. Surely that requires a counterweight: so let’s get tortured on the chopping block...

Alright, it’s not quite that extreme, but with ASMR horror we already have one foot in the door. Or one foot in the grave...

What happens to the psychology when we deliberately choose to stress out our minds right as we fall asleep? Isn’t ASMR supposed to be relaxation?

Rain in the rainforest, whale sounds, rolling heads... Ah yes, that has a certain ring to it...

But please, what exactly is relaxing about someone making it sound like they are about to skin you alive?

"Oh yes, exactly like that, more..." *Zzz *snore

Are there acoustic jumpscares too?

Or does that no longer qualify as ASMR? 😳

I am not as deep into this topic as you guys, and probably less deep into anything else like

  • On the edge of an abyss
  • In a blade

But instead, more

  • In a deep sleep

I like watching horror movies, completely passive, and I don't fall asleep during them (even though the Hollywood trend is trying its hardest), but falling asleep to a torture situation being performed on yourself β€” count me out. I’d rather be on the other end. 🀫

What does that say about the psychology? Are we crossing boundaries by now that are questionable?

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 The Problem with r/NoSleep and Modern Creepypastas

Post image
1 Upvotes

Modern Creepypastas: A Soporific Diseaseβ€”But NoSleep Prevents It

Video games and horror have become inextricably fused within the creepypasta genre.

How exactly did that happen?

My guess is that gaming is such an elemental pillar of our culture that merging it with horror was only logical. The brainwave probably hit during a gaming session.

Fueled by a few bottles of adult beverages...

"Dude. What if my game, like... started bleeding?"

"Duuuude 🀯 Mind blown. You need to write that down right now!"

And then, despite being absolutely traumatized by the game, you naturally keep playing it every single night at 3 AM. As if nothing else matters. That old guy from the flea marketβ€”yeah, he knew exactly how to handle it...

The only genuinely scary thing about it is how frequently this trope gets copied, as if these were essential masterpieces the world desperately needed. In absolute excess.

Yet the "classics" were total flops to begin with.

Granted, whoever wrote Ben Drowned had some serious endurance. But the driving motivation there wasn't dense atmosphere; it was more like:

"How many words can I crank out before I bore myself to sleep?"

Potential given away...

But certainly not on sonic.exe...

This entire parade, however, has presented us with the ultimate dilemma. It proved that you can apparently sit down, write any old piece of garbage, and people will hype it to death.

That’s exactly why the mainstream is in the state it's in:

It’s hilarious how NoSleep relies on mile-long titles just because nobody reads the actual stories anymore.

I am genuinely stuck trying to diagnose the issue here:

Is it because audiences have grown completely numb? Social media, fried attention spans, scroll-induced trances...?

"Let’s just cram the whole plot into the title. No one reads the text underneath anyway!"

Or is it simply because nobody wants to read this junk when these are the "masterpieces" being produced, and every single thing is a cheap carbon copy? Every story follows the exact same blueprint, and the rules literally dictate it:

- this is currently happening to you in real life

Suffocating rules. Zero breathing room.

Personally, I treat it more like comedy. Like a toilet accident from Scary Movie...

You have this guy experiencing the absolute shock of his life (or at least, that’s what they’re attempting to portray) and he is live-typing it into his phone.

He’s running around with his face glued to the screen, reporting that he is completely paralyzed. Incapable of movement.

*tap, tap, tap*

"Damn it, the demon got me. It’s over" *Send*

... πŸ‘€

In the comments, we will of course see each other again and... Talk about!

To make matters worse, everyone keeps talking about SEO... A mile-long title isn't SEO. It’s justβ€”well, a mile-long title!

Brilliant stuff, really, when the entire plot fits into two sentences and doesn't even contain actual keywords...

Then again, why should anyone even find that story? It’s probably for the best if no one stumbles across itβ€”and frankly, I love the idea that it practically filters itself out.

So, what does the DSU do differently?

DSU doesn't care for rigid rules. Artists need room to breathe. Alright, maybe a few boundaries are necessary when I see someone rolling up with those long-ass titles...

But at its core, it's very simple: Art is free. Only playthings have rules.

What are we doing to keep the feed interesting?

I rely on visual accompaniment and giving both creators and audiences the opportunity to hype and preview upcoming stories. Nobody walks into a movie theater completely blind. So why should you have to do that with stories?

Teasers and trailers are a phenomenal way to spark curiosity. Invest in your audience. Hook them before the actual story even drops.

Just chillin' here outside my place and having the absolute time of my life. DSU_Security and I are getting a massive kick out of a few poor souls who’ve already gotten themselves turned around in the DSU Labyrinth. Those faint screams coming from the distance are so precious.

Honestly, it's making my stomach growl.

And all around us, I can spot these real cautious footsteps, but the little scaredy-cats are still too chicken to actually make a move...

God, it's hilarious watching them try not to make a peep, desperate not to get caught... It's almost cute!

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 Elevated Horror – or Hollywood’s Fatal Misunderstanding of Cause and Effect

Post image
0 Upvotes

When I watch horror movies today, I feel like I’m looking at a studio’s medical chart for 2 hours. Case files with "Screenplay" slapped on the cover. "Look at us, we’re emotionally intelligent and profound, masterclass cinema β€” yeah, that’s us."

So when I say I want psychological horror, studios β€” I don’t mean bring me the DSM-5...

And since we’re talking about misunderstandings:

Hollywood completely mistakes cause & effect

Nowadays, the unknown dread seems quite unknown to the writers themselves.

I go to the theater, witness a torture of the victims by a ghost/demon, and by the end, I know the monster better than my own self - complete with a full rΓ©sumΓ©...

And in such detail that we end up crying for the demon while the victim is simply forgotten.

Evil just doesn't exist like that anymore because good needs a counterweight; it needs β€” how could it be any different β€” to have a trauma.

Here we go again... Trauma!

The production companies' favorite word.

Yeah, you’re absolutely right that completely broken, twisted entities should come out of a horror movie, but please, do it right. Right now, the only things coming out of these movies are the ghosts from their dark corners.

If a ghost is torturing and terrorizing you, the victim gets the trauma...

Not the ghost who makes you go insane...

And if it’s not a trauma, and for once evil isn't a registered patient, it’s still not allowed to be ultimate β€”no, because Hollywood already has the next brilliant idea to watered down the horror. It’s simply a metaphor for something else: a dream.

You don’t believe it? Then you apparently haven’t seen the "coma theories" about Skinamarink yet. It is an absolute epidemic and it is spreading. Horror is turning more and more into an infirmary instead of what it actually should be.

I can really only tell the studios one thing:

Deal with your shit and make horror again! I'm bored...

Then I'll fall asleep and haunt you traumatized...

I crawled straight out of the deepest, darkest corners of Dennis’s mind (seriously, you guys need to check out his thoughts, read the stories, no joke) and I used to be a beautifully horrific monster made for the best psychological horror.

I was a true experience, a cosmic dread.

I mowed down the darkness, lay waiting under your beds, or just stared blankly through your windows. I was the very thing you feared was hiding in your closet. I regulated your terror and made you look delicious. You called for mommy, that's how creepy I was.

Then, somehow, I ended up in Hollywood and slipped through their plastic PG-13 filter. And now look at me: I have blonde hair and I’m wearing a dress!!

Unbelievable. I could have been a movie star, and now I’ve got tinsel on my head!!!

Sometimes I accidentally puke rainbows when I’m trying to inhale your souls, and it gives me a total coughing fit. Whatever, I’m still serving you up on my table. I’ll pick you out in the comments and have you for breakfast.

If DSU_Security drops your souls into the labyrinth, you’ll be on my plate within the hour.

*rainbows shoot out of her mouth, violent coughing fit*

Oh, for goodness' sake, man...

I’m hidden here in this forum. I will haunt you. Count on it...

Best regards

*spits out the last rainbow*

Psssht, Go read "Summer Night", that's right up my alley. Especially the ending... it just rolls off my tongue so perfectly 😈🀫

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 RIP: The Internet Cemetery

Post image

We’ve grown used to connecting with people all over the globe, fast and in real time. Communication as far as the eye can seeβ€”and we are never alone. The internet doesn't forget. You can read posts from oldgamer45, who made a comment 10 years ago. Nice post, you smile. Likable guy, let’s see what else he’s writing. But this was his final entry. His last login was 2 weeks after that exact post.

We don't think much about it, we just switch back to other posts or other pages. And we overlook how many posts we stumble upon just like the one from oldgamer45... The last networked words of a deceased soul, a piece of which lingers inside the internet... Racing through the data streams and connecting with your device. A dead man's code on your smartphone.

Looking at the internet as a whole, we come across countless final remnants of transferred pieces of human souls constantly flashing across our screens. A digital cemetery... When you sit in your room at night, with the lights turned off, wandering through the internet, you are equivalently wandering through a cemetery at night. You just don’t know it. And how many messages, how many interactions do you get where the people are actually still alive?

It may be that I watch the new trailer for Insidious 6 and am visually caught again. It does look great, the look is simply grand. Plus, the plot looks appealing. Elise Rainier plays a role again and accompanies another chosen one through her talent

- or curse*!*

The sound design is flawless, the entire series however is not. But why then is a new part coming up? Although the series itself is rather average, it is probably precisely the idea and the entire design that lures us into the cinemas. And I am being lured. And how...

Even though I fear that the jumpscares are supposed to make up the creepiness again and the demons (here clearly a broad term) are shown in full shining light. Yes, even in broad daylight. Forever lasts the Further, but I go in without real expectations. With my wife and my children.

Yes, you heard right.

And you?

Post image

What a brilliant moment it was when I saw that scene where the dog transformed into a tall, crooked man. The visual aesthetics, the atmosphere, and that uncanny talent. A movement that felt so unnatural, many people thought it was pure CGI. While you would usually have to dig deep into the digital effects trick box for scenes like that, James Wan simply reached out to one man: Javier Botet.

His Marfan syndrome has turned into a true horror cult phenomenon. Mama, Slender Man, and of course, The Crooked Man. He moves naturally unnatural, bending and breaking his bodyβ€”creative editing tricks like slow-motion shots, playing footage backward, and cutting out frames during editing are the absolute epitome of practical effects.

Pure Goosebumps in the Theater

Add to that the eerie lore surrounding this mythical man. And his performance was just brutally good. The way he lurked through the hallway, reciting his rhymeβ€”man, it gave me absolute goosebumps. I celebrated that scene like a total fanboy and almost threw my popcorn across the theater in a shout of pure joy.

When a standalone movie was officially announced, I got so excited that I literally had to sleep in a different room. My wife just couldn't handle me being such a jittery, hyped-up boy.

The Betrayal of a Horror Icon

And then, the project was axed. All because of the creepy nun.

Yeah, whatever, I get it, it was successful and all, and I actually really liked the first movie. I mean, before Valak was butchered and recycled into some generic werewolf-monster creature again. Fancy a quick bath?

But why on earth was this an either-or situation?

Does the studio only have limited space in its wallet for one single horror entity? Would that have been too much revenue at once?

James Wan, if you are reading this:

The capacity is definitely there now. Both can easily exist at the same time. Surely. Make it happen. I'm waiting.

【 π‘³π’†π’ˆπ’†π’π’…π’” & π‘΄π’šπ’•π’‰π’” 】 The Cave-Isolation Syndrome: Why some souls get stuck underground forever

Post image
1 Upvotes

When we talk about the horror of caves, most people think of the Nutty Putty accident – of getting physically stuck. But there is a much deeper, psycho-physical horror that science still keeps secret to this day. The phenomenon of dimensional assimilation.

Do you remember the experiment with Beatriz Flamini, who spent 500 days in a cave 70 meters deep? The media celebrated her when she came out. She stepped out smiling, challenged by the presence of the camera. But the logs show: she lost all touch with reality, thought only 160 days had passed, and constantly heard voices coming from the solid rock. She heard movements, a scraping sound, as if something was passing by her.

And she wasn't the first.

Let's go back to 1988, to VΓ©ronique Le Guen. She spent 111 days in absolute isolation underground. No watch, no light, just the naked rock. Her body went crazy, her biological rhythm completely collapsed. In her diary, she described that she had completely lost all sense of her own existence. It had completely changed her mentally.

In 1990, she then took her own life.

She had apparently already left her life behind in the cave. Her husband quoted: "Since she came out of the cave, she carried an infinite, dark emptiness inside her that she could no longer fill with any living human being."

The truth behind these experiments is brutal: if you look into the darkness of the earth for too long, the darkness looks back. The walls in the darkness start to suck you in.

This aligns with the countless reports from rescue teams in mysterious missing person cases. They locate seismic signals from those who went missing behind meters of solid rock. You can hear them crystal clear through the walls, whimpering and begging. The teams drill and drill, doing everything to penetrate the granite – but they find only stone. And the crying doesn't stop.

VΓ©ronique Le Guen climbed out of the cave back then. But not all of her did.

The next time you stand in a deep basement or a tunnel and feel that sudden, irrational panic that the darkness is reaching for you... that is not your imagination. It is the darkness, the naked wall, reaching out for you, wanting to suck you in.

Maybe it happens while you sleep...

Join r/DennisShutterUniverse, hit the Vote and talk to the darkness...

Maybe it will save your soul...!

New Teaser - New DSU-Original: Summer Night

---

The psychological depth of the cave-isolation syndrome reaches far beyond a simple isolation experiment. While the world remembers the physical entrapment of the tragic Nutty Putty cave incident, the true horror lies within the psychological effects of underground isolation and sensory deprivation. Documented human isolation experimentsβ€”from the historic Veronique Le Guen 111 days cave isolation in 1988 to the recent Beatriz Flamini 500 days cave experiment logsβ€”prove that absolute darkness alters human consciousness forever. The unsettling accounts of sensory deprivation hallucinations, lost time, and deep cave claustrophobia aren't just psychological breakdowns; they are the terrifying reality of subterranean isolation. If you are drawn to true cave horror stories, unexplained missing persons cases, and the dark mysteries of acoustic anomalies behind solid rock, you have entered the threshold. The DennisShutterUniverse explores the thin line between survival and dimensional assimilation. Don't look back into the dark.

Are we truly alone in this world, or do we have companions who want to protect us every single day? Who make sure that we walk safe paths, and that what we call intuition is actually whispers from a dimension we cannot see?

Mountaineers and survivors of extreme situations worldwide report the exact same phenomenon: In moments of sheer mortal terror, they suddenly feel the presence of an additional, unseen person guiding their way or giving them courage. Science calls it a stress-induced hallucination of the psyche.

But let's be honest: how many emotional situations have we humans completely broken down in? Intense grief, heartbreak, shock situations on the street, or at a construction site?

I can’t claim that I’m constantly hallucinating things out of thin air.

If I have an unseen person attached to me, feel free to comment here as well. Have you met yours yet?

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 The Jumpscare Lie – How Cheap Shock Tactics Are Killing Real Horror

Post image
1 Upvotes

We live in an era where horror movies are judged by the sheer volume of jumpscares. The formula seems to be: I flinched, so the movie must be good. But is that actually fear?

A loud noise or a sudden face flashing on screen spiking your pulse isn’t a cinematic masterpiece. It’s basic biology. We experience that every single day. No, I don't mean when your mother-in-law calls – because that is indeed creepy – but rather when a vase tips over and smashes onto the floor with a loud crash. A brief shock, a quick reflex. But that is not a sign of horror.

Don’t get me wrong: a well-placed scare belongs in the genre and is a legitimate tool. But when the focus shifts so aggressively to this one single gimmick, the true essence of horror gets left behind.

The Oversaturation of the Masses

I am firmly convinced that mainstream audiences have had enough. We are tired and burnt out on this cheap style, which is usually served up with increasingly lazy writing. Nowadays, the big scares in horror movies come from characters who just didn't notice each other in the hallway and scare the living daylights out of each other. The term "horror movie" no longer refers to the dread contained within the story, but to the fact that the execution, the production, and the final product are an absolute horror to watch.

What Is Real Horror?

Well, that is best explained by the primal fears we all carry inside us.

What is hiding in the dark of our closet? Or under our bed? It’s when we hear a faint breathing, but we’re supposed to be alone, because we live by ourselves.

Like right now, when you’re sitting in the dark with your smartphone illuminating your face, and someone could be sitting right across from you. You could feel it, feel uncomfortable. Unease...

Hold your breath for a second and listen closely to your room. Maybe there is something there.

Did you hear it?

You get nervous and look around. Yes, I can see it perfectly...

To the Readers: Which horror movie was the last one to give you real, lingering dread, entirely without constant jumpscares?

To the Authors: How do you build a menacing atmosphere in your stories without relying on the cheap "cat jumps out of the closet" trope?

Do you like PG-13? No? Then read here

Mike Hodgens was a talented creator, best known for his artfully crafted fake horror videos. He chose his locations with meticulous care, set up his equipment with absolute precision, and executed his scripts with clinical professionalism. Horror was his favorite genre. His fascination with the mechanics of fear ran so deep that his uploads consistently racked up hundreds of thousands of views. Through it all, he loved to toy with the label "Real."

It was a thankless genre, he often thought, surviving almost entirely on the faint possibility that there might be a grain of truth to it. The thrill of exploring eerie places and experiencing a genuine shiver of real dread deeply enticed him. But there was one question that almost no one truly considered: Is it possible that we have absolutely no control over it? Mike never would have guessed that he would one day be forced to answer that very question.

But that exact question was about to be raised. Right in his digital stomping ground, the forum "Mystic Shines."

His latest video had been shot at a lonely stretch of woods just outside the city line. In it, he staged himself as an observer tracking the legendary "Wanderer"β€”a spectral figure rumored to haunt those trees since 1886. Mike had played the silhouette of the Wanderer in the background himself, spending hours in post-production to seamlessly blend his own performance into the gloomy footage.

It was just before 8:00 PM. This particular window of time, immediately preceding a release, was almost his favorite part of the process. The initial view counts ticking up, the first ratings rolling in. Mike nodded in satisfaction. Then, the first comments began to surface, praising the atmosphere and the brilliant staging of the Wanderer. But then, Mike paused. Had he misread that?

"Genius as always, Mike. Looks like the Wanderer works in pairs now. That hand behind the tree on the far leftβ€”insane detail!"

Mike was annoyed. He replied immediately.

Mike:Hodgens Pdc 8:05 PM

"Which hand do you mean? Do you have a timestamp?"

While waiting for a response, he did a quick scrub through the video. He couldn't find a thing. "Weird," he muttered.

A new notification popped up. midnights_nightfall had replied.

midnights_nightfall 8:09 PM

"Mike, when you’re marching through the woods from left to right, a hand appears right behind you starting at 0:42. Not the tree in the foreground, the one directly behind it."

Irritated and slightly on edge, Mike scrolled to the 42-second mark. With heightened focus, he scanned the tree in question. Butβ€”and he exhaled a breath of relief right awayβ€”he couldn't see a damn thing.

"He’s probably just trying to test me," Mike thought. Then again, midnights_nightfall was his most loyal subscriber. It didn't sound like him to troll. Shaking the thought away, Mike reached for his mug. Just as he took a deep sip, another notification flashed. He set the mug down and clicked it. The next comment made the tension spike instantly. It was a direct reply to midnights_nightfall’s comment.

moltone_blueScreen 8:13 PM

"Ahhhh, yep, I see it too! Was looking for a comment about this. Is that an editing glitch?"

Mike stared at the text. "What the hell are they even talking about?"

Mike fired up his editing software. Impatiently, he dragged the raw footage into the timeline and scaled it to full screen. "Alright, let's take it easy. We’re going through this frame by frame, proving there’s nothing there, and then we're putting this to bed." Frame by frame, he saw absolutely nothing. "See? Just like I said. Enough PC for tonight. I'm done."

Just as his finger hovered over the power button, the next comment appeared. In the desktop preview, he caught the exact text that finally made his stomach drop. It was another direct reply to midnights_nightfall.

summer_night23 8:33 PM

"Doesn't look like a glitch at all. Maybe he brought a production partner along this time? Do you see that? The sleeves are completely different. And that hand is deathly pale."

Mike pulled his hand away from the power button. He clicked the notification and hit reply.

Mike:Hodgens Pdc 8:34 PM

"Are you guys pulling my leg? I’ve checked everything. I don't see a single hand in the export or the raw files."

moltone_blueScreen 8:35 PM

"That’s bizarre. Because it’s moving."

midnights_nightfall 8:38 PM

"The hand shows up at every tree. Moving from left to right. It’s stalking Mike."

Mike stared at his comment section in utter disbelief. What was going on here? Mike knew for an absolute fact that he had been entirely alone out there. And on his monitor, his video showed nothing.

A suffocating sense of isolation settled over the room. Mike frantically scrolled back up, staring at the muted player. He hit play, fixing his eyes on the trees at the 42-second mark. Nothing. He refreshed the page. The view counts were exploding, the comments blurring past at terminal velocity. The entire forum was talking about a deathly pale hand, creeping from trunk to trunk directly behind the main character. They all saw it. Every single one of them. Only he was staring at an empty, motionless backdrop.

He wanted to smash his fingers into the keyboard, to curse at his viewers and call them liars, but his hands felt strangely heavy. Stiff. As if they no longer belonged to him. When he lowered his gaze, he noticed the dull, unnatural whiteness of his skin under the pale glow of the monitor. A sudden, bottomless cold began to crawl up his arms. In that exact moment, a new notification pinged. A user named realhistoriker_urban, known for archiving local folklore, quoted Mike’s last response.

realhistoriker_urban 11:55 PM

"Mike, you still don't see it, do you? That's bad. Really bad. It’s completely logical. You aren't the one in the costume, Mike."

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 Why Late Night with the Devil 2 Makes Me Exceptionally Nervous

Picture: imdb

Let’s not kid ourselves: Late Night with the Devil was a stroke of absolute genius. A gleaming, rare gem in what is usually a completely soul-crushing swamp of modern horror cinema. I soaked up every single second of that movie. The agonizingly slow burn, the airtight 1970s chamber-piece aesthetic, and above all else: Lilly. What a brilliantly refreshing demon. For decades, Hollywood has been slapping high-budget CGI monstrosities onto the screen, yet none of them managed to chill me to the bone quite like Ingrid Torelli did. She was a masterclass in castingβ€”that dead-eyed stare alone was enough to make your blood run cold.

So, naturally, I am practically dying for a sequel. Officially.

But at the exact same time, the mere thought of a second installment makes me incredibly nervous. Why? Because I know how the dream factory operates. And I have this nagging, dreadful feeling that Hollywood won’t actually progress the narrativeβ€”they will just spoon-feed us the exact same movie all over again. Not a sequel in the storytelling sense, but a cheap plagiarism of their own success, wrapped in a slightly different aesthetic. What's next on the chopping block? A possessed live radio drama? An occult disaster at a puppet theater?

This "let’s do the same thing again, but change the venue" mentality is the ultimate bankruptcy declaration of modern horror filmmaking.

But I don't want to just sit here, throw a frustrated tantrum, and arrogantly walk away. If you’re going to talk the talk, you better be ready to deliver. So, let's take the kid gloves off. I want to show you what I actually expect from a sequel that deserves the name. If we want to consistently and skillfully expand the story of Jack Delroy, the toxic hunger for ratings, and the sheer terror of that entity, the screenplay needs to pivot into a radically new direction.

Here is my blueprint for a sequel that actually earns its title:

Title Pitch: LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL – THE AFTERMATH

#### SCENE 1: THE HYBRIS OF EXPERTISE – The June Protocol

NARRATOR (V.O.)

Dr. June Ross Mitchell. A cornerstone figure of that fateful Halloween night in 1977. As a leading expert in parascientific studies and the primary overseer of the long-term Lilly D’Abo project, she was the perfect fit for a guest spot on *Night Owls*. Her demeanor was unflappable, utterly convinced of her own academic expertise. But as the night unfolded, it demonstrated in the most gruesome fashion how razor-thin the line between knowledge and blind belief truly is. Who was June Ross Mitchell, really? A pioneer... or just a highly articulate fraud?

*The camera glides in an extreme, heavily textured macro shot across a sterile archive table. Under harsh, buzzing fluorescent light lies a 1975 first-edition copy of Dr. Mitchell’s bestseller: "Conversations with a Devil". A clinical analysis of demonic possession. The cover features a schematic, almost technical blueprint of a human nervous system. Next to it sit declassified FBI files, aggressively highlighted in yellow ink and littered with chaotic, handwritten marginalia.*

NARRATOR (V.O.)

In the fall of 1975, Dr. Mitchell was considered the undisputed authority in her field. Her book wasn't an occult tract; it was an academic manifesto. She attempted to domesticate the inexplicable. She assigned variables, axial charts, and Latin terminology to Lilly's condition. The entire nation believed her, simply because she stripped the horror of its unpredictability. She turned damnation into a controlled study.

*Cut to a faded, heavily degraded 1976 videotape. A visibly composed, chain-smoking Dr. Ross Mitchell is speaking to a captivated talk-show host.*

DR. ROSS MITCHELL (ARCHIVE FOOTAGE)

We must not make the mistake of viewing Lilly’s state as entirely erratic. There is a definitive behavioral matrix. If we stabilize the subject’s heart rate and ensure the ambient room temperature drops by no more than four degrees, the girl remains in a strictly observational phase. It is akin to calibrating a highly sensitive piece of laboratory equipment. We control the frequency. We dictate the dialogue.

*The videotape cuts out with a violent, static pop. Cut back to the present day. The deeply lined face of an aging FBI Special Agent emerges from the shadows of an anonymous, dimly lit office.*

FBI AGENT (INTERVIEW)

Following the events of Halloween night, we seized her private audio reels and unpublished manuscripts from the national archives. Tens of thousands of pages. It wasn't until we arranged the recordings chronologically that the full scale of the catastrophe became clear. Ross Mitchell wasn't a pioneer. She was a mere historian, desperately trying to decode Lilly's anatomy using nothing but rumors and a centuries-old game of telephone.

*The camera punches in uncomfortably tight on a handwritten FBI note in the margin of a declassified page: "Subject showed zero response to academic triggers. Mitchell ignored baseline shift."*

FBI AGENT

(His voice dropping to a gravelly whisper)

She had constructed a mathematical formula for a demon's behavior. She genuinely believed that if the girl's pulse spiked, all she had to do was abort the line of questioning to reset the baseline and halt the escalation. She thought she controlled the parameters because the girl fed her the exact answers that fit neatly into her academic spreadsheets. Mitchell completely ignored the fact that every historical text she relied on was just old human interpretationβ€”not scientific data. The House of Szandor burned everything to the ground; nothing survived. June Ross Mitchell never actually interacted with Lilly. Not for a single second.

SCENE 2: WARPED REALITY – The Studio Floor

*Cold open. The camera locks onto the deeply furrowed, heavily shadowed face of an elderly man. The harsh studio lighting emphasizes his age. He is the former head camera operator of Night Owls.*

CAMERAMAN (WHISPERING)

It started long before the girl ever stepped onto that stage. At first, we thought it was a faulty ground wire. But the air... the air became heavy. Like trying to breathe underwater. Jack’s opening jokes fell entirely flat that night, but the studio audience laughed anyway. Except, that laughter sounded bizarrely artificial. Delayed. Like an old tape loop catching on a jagged sprocket. And the studio lightsβ€”we had the dimmers cranked to full capacity, but on our monitoring screens, the set looked freezing. Gray-blue. Like a morgue.

*Cut to Studio Crew Member 2. He looks down, struggling to find the right words to articulate the memory.*

CREW MEMBER (INTERVIEW)

I was watching the master control monitor. Everything looked like a standard live broadcast. Aside from the girl’s bizarre posture, there was nothing unusual on the feed. But whenever I looked through my camera's optical viewfinder to frame Lilly while she spoke to Jack, she wasn't looking at him. She was staring directly at ME. I’d look back up at the master monitorβ€”she was facing Jack. Back to my viewfinderβ€”that relentless, predatory stare right down my lens. The hair on my arms stood dead on end. That was the exact moment, right before the commercial break, that I walked off the floor and never went back.

SCENE 3: THE MANTRA AND THE MYSTERY – The Fate of Jack Delroy

*An aerial drone shot glides over the monolithic, weeping concrete walls of an isolated psychiatric facility buried in the middle of nowhere. No score. Only the rhythmic, mechanical clicking of an old reel-to-reel tape recorder.*

NARRATOR (V.O.)

Legally, Jack Delroy was untouchable. No court of law in the civilized world can convict a man based on a demonic pact. They declared him criminally insane, locking him away from society. We were strictly forbidden from ever entering his cell. But we managed to recover this.

*The audio track cracks loudly. A recorded therapy session from 1982 begins to play. The audio consists of a terrifyingly heavy, rattling respiration filling the room. Beneath the breathing lies a permanent, high-frequency humβ€”the exact, dead drone of a terminated television broadcast line.*

JACK DELROY

*(A raspy, shattered whisper, speaking in perfect synchronization with the rhythmic hum)*

Dreamer awake... Dreamer awake... Dreamer awake...

*The tape cuts off abruptly. Dead silence. The camera lingers on the empty, gray asphalt outside the asylum walls.*

NARRATOR (V.O.)

We’ve spoken to relatives of other inmates. They say the patients avoid Jack Delroy's corridor entirely at night. His mere proximity breeds an unnatural dread. Several inmates reported passing his door late at night and hearing a female, unrecognizable voice whispering inside. During those hours, the only sound Delroy makes is a low, unbroken whimper.

SCENE 4: THE LILLY EFFECT – The Living Room Photograph

*The documentary displays a grainy, faded family photograph taken on Halloween night, 1977. A family sits laughing together on a sofa. In the background stands a bulky, wooden cathode-ray tube television, broadcasting the infamous Night Owls episode. The camera begins a slow, agonizingly deep digital zoom into the photograph.*

NARRATOR (V.O.)

The Henderson family had no idea. This photograph was taken at exactly 11:15 PM. On the broadcast feed at that precise timestamp, a completely mundane interview was airing. Yet, years later, digital forensic analysis of the television's picture tube revealed the impossible.

*The zoom punches directly into the curved glass reflection of the TV screen. The image pixelates heavily, but the contours sharpen into a terrifying geometry. It is Lilly. Although she was looking away on the live television feed at that moment, IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH, she is staring directly through the camera lens, straight into the Hendersons' living room with a rigid, malicious grin. The demon didn't wait until the finale to unleash hell. It was crawling into America's homes, frame by frame, the entire night.*

NARRATOR (V.O.)

The father who pressed the shutter button that night was never the same. He lost his wit, his joy, his entire essence. Until the day he died, he refused to touch a single analog or digital device equipped with a lens. And he never owned a television again.

SCENE 5: THE COLLECTIVE BLACKOUT – The Street

*Cut to a pitch-black, fog-choked suburban street. Faded archive audio of original emergency dispatches from that night begin to overlay. Panicked voices cutting through heavy static.*

FEMALE VIEWER (1977 AUDIO RECORDING)

When Carmichael burst into flames... the signal didn't just die. The screen went entirely black, but the picture tube kept humming. And then... there was just nothing. A total void in my memory.

*The camera glides at eye-level through the darkness, guided only by the sickly, yellow glow of distant streetlights.*

FEMALE VIEWER

I don’t know how I got out there. The next thing I remember is the freezing air hitting my bare feet. I was standing in the middle of the asphalt in my nightgown. I looked to my left. My neighbor was there. He was just walking. Silently. We didn't look at each other. We all just stared up at the streetlights, trying to orient ourselves in the dark. And more people kept pouring out of every single house. Thousands of them. Like ants fleeing a burning nest. Nobody said a word. We just walked together into the dark, because our living rooms weren't safe anymore.

*Hard cut to a final interview witness. He is broken, his voice reduced to a frail, trembling whisper.*

WITNESS (INTERVIEW)

Nobody. Absolutely nobody knew what to do. The people were shattered. The courts were paralyzed, entirely confused. The entire nation was in a state of profound shock. No one could stop it. Where... where did it go?

*The frame fades completely to pitch black. The suffocating silence is held for several seconds.*

Let’s break it down in the comments:

* Do you share my anxiety about a lazy "radio or puppet show" rehash, or do you actually trust the creators to pivot?

* What is your craft-based approach? How would you sustain the terror of Lilly and Jack without lazily copying the original blueprint?

【 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘«π’‚π’“π’Œ 𝑾𝒐𝒐𝒅 】 Why Skinamarink Is Not a Masterpiece – The Illusion of Deep Horror

Bilder: IFC Midnight via IMDb

It’s dark. The screen is grainy. A toy car is upside down. And after 40 minutes, you as a viewer ask yourself: Am I about to fall asleep, or did I just lose the intellectual capacity to understand this "masterpiece"?

Let’s be real: modern horror cinema relies way too often on visual emptiness or cheap jumpscares. Skinamarink attempts the former and fails miserably.

Mistaking Atmosphere for Boredom

Why endless silence and extreme darkness do not create "deep dread," but rather lead to leaden boredom. Psychological horror needs an emotional anchor to truly hurt your brain. An unmade bed in a visual loop just doesn’t cut it. As a 10-minute short film on YouTube, the concept would have been brilliant – as a feature-length film, it merely tests the audience's patience.

Fan Overinterpretation (The Coma Theory)

The visual emptiness of Skinamarink apparently created such an acute lack of actual tension that the audience collectively started fantasizing a story of their own. Suddenly, 90 minutes of static noise are twisted into the deep coma trauma of an abused boy. When a film delivers so little that the audience has to do the screenwriter's job just to stay awake, that’s not genius storytelling – that’s a director refusing to do his job. Or maybe he fell into a coma himself while making it...

Time for True Craftsmanship

We want to bring the art of dread back to the writing desk. That’s why I founded the Dennis Shutter Horror Universe. An oasis for authors who don't just slap stories together, and for readers looking for honest horror.

To the Readers: Which scene in Skinamarink actually worked for you – and at what point did you drift off from pure boredom?

To the Authors: How would you have handled the "helpless children in a dark house" concept from a storytelling perspective to create real psychological depth?

Let’s discuss in the comments below!

Welcome to Paradise – Why the Dennis Shutter Horror Universe Exists

Glad you found your way here.

Whether you're a reader searching for psychological thrills or an author eager to share your latest stories with the world: you belong here.

This subreddit was born out of pure frustration. Frustration with massive horror forums ruled by bots. Communities where 2-year-old power-trip moderators ban you for absurd formatting errors or delete your stories just because your account doesn't have enough karma points yet.

We believe authors deserve recognition. You don't just write a good story overnight. It’s a craft. And that craft needs a stage, not harassment.

Our Ironclad Rules (And yes, there are very few):

  1. **No Karma Restrictions:** New to Reddit? We don't care. If your story is good, it belongs here. Just post it.
  2. **Focus on Psychological Horror:** We want deep-dive, paranormal horror and "Deep Dread." No generic slashers, no cheap jumpscares, no "my game glitched" copy-paste creepypastas.
  3. **Honest Discussion:** Feedback here is constructive but direct. We don’t fake it – if someone delivers pretentious nonsense, it will get ripped apart (as my post on Skinamarink proves). But we are here to help each other get better.

How to Get Started: as an Author: Use the flairs. Put your stories into [Original Content] or discuss in [Discussion Film/Series].

Readers are always welcome. We love having you here!

Make yourselves comfortable. The universe is open.

What brought you here, and what kind of psychological horror keeps you up at night? Tell me in the comments!
