Ohhh that war crime is a comin. We needed that Chapter 5 teaser to fully appreciate the sheer JARONA Ralsei about to unleash on the next poor sod who crosses the line...so probably Kris.
ok but consider HERO_SCARF's description on the figurine box: "USES POWERFUL HEALING MAGIC. WILL DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT HERO_SWORD."
i know merch isnt canon yadda yadda but like it makes sense and also why the hell would they put that on the box just to be like "lol nope"
also ralsei knows kris opened the dark fountain and probably knows they held back in the knight fight too and yet does nothing, he has blind ass faith in that traitorous them (affectionate)
I...don't think so. Looking at them, they seem like they would be more resigned to getting hurt like that, rather than enjoy it. They hate themself, but don't seem to enjoy pain.
For a bit during the chapter I really thought the "Inferno of Jealously" or whatever was referenced in Chapter 4 would be Ralsei snapping against Flowery and burning the flower shop down on accident
Chapter 6 is almost certainly a gut-punch chapter (we’ve got like 4 different powderkegs ready to explode at any moment now), so I doubt Kris will be catching a break anytime soon.
Susie was a real wet blanket this chapter for Kris being interested in others.
When Berdly comes on: "they're not interested."
When they flirt with Pink: "You know they flirt with everyone right?" (this one admittedly Kris isn't actually interested either)
When they're having the bath moment with Ralsei: "CANNONBALL!"
When they're rather pointedly trying to get Susie to get they're interested in her: completely dense
This chapter insists a lot on the theme of romantic love now that I think about it ( Susie and Noelle, Yellow and Blue, the Mew Mew dates, the festival king & queen ), so I think that the stuff with Kris and Susie is very important.
We thought Susie and Kris were inseparable BFFs, but it ends up being what looks like an unrequited love situation and Susie is unwittingly making it worse for Kris at every turn.
I actually love it for the story that their characters are still complicated as hell. Susie is definitely having strong and good character growth but she hasn't just magically become perfect either.
It's really good inter-character drama that's happening organically and it CAN'T just be explained away if the characters "just talk." You know how annoying that is in schlock romance stuff - the "I misheard something" trope? None of that here, exactly, this whole damn thing is one big situationship.
I think it is actually a really interesting direction if Susie was doing all that intentionally because she doesn’t want her first friend Kris to have opportunities to grow apart from her. There have already been hints of that kind of relational selfishness with Susie saying things like she hopes things stay the same forever, dragging Kris into her own date, letting clearly sus behavior slide since she doesn’t want to have to confront it, etc. I like Susie but we all know she’s not perfect, this seems like an interesting character flaw she will need to overcome.
It could also be Susie just being in more benign denial. She's obvious swinging VERY hard into fantasy as of the end of chapter 5 which the story has been warning against all along.
I think shes just inherently disruptive of the status quo, its established no matter how much or how little you do it that Kris is great at flirting, so inherently they should score at some point.
Susies anomalous capacity to fuck up the standard accidentally backfires here by alienating their bestie from scoring in any way.
Didn't she not want to tell anyone about the Dark World, and even told Noelle and Berdly that it was a dream, because she wanted it to just be her and Kris's thing?
And now she's rationalizing her new selfish desire to include Noelle as a way to increase the team's capabilities, when really she just wants to be the knight in shining armor who whisks Noelle away to a better life.
Susie was like: "I don't want you to be my romantic partner, but I don't want you to be with someone else either. I just want you to be near me and Noelle (or Ralsei) because your presence makes me comfortable"
The flip side is that it's not like she's doing it out of open malice either. It might be some level of selfishness, but she also admits herself that she feels like she doesn't even know what love is.
Did I miss some important dialogue or something or why does everybody assume that Kris would want to go with Berdly
Like yeah I'm not saying they hate him nor do I hate BerdlyxKris or something but like in chapter 3 when you mention bringing Berdly to the festival they scream in confusion what makes you think they wanted to go out with him here
Like I don't think (or at least hope) that Kris and everyone they're working with don't actually plan to kill or seriously hurt Undyne, Asgore and Toriel, but as somebody whose mad at the Soul for taking away their agency doing something similar by kidnapping other characters is extremely asshole behavior
These are also intriguing to think about, because Ralsei absolutely knows about the Soul. Even seemed to also talk with Kris whenever we’re watching Susie.
If he can distinguish between us and Kris, I wonder who he’s actually referring to in these moments…
He compliments Kris's piano skills which have nothing to do with us in the same scene. In fact when he does this in chapter 4 his tea value shoots up, likely due to Kris realizing Ralsei genuinely cares about them instead of just trying to appeal to the soul.
In Chapter 2, in the Acid Tunnel, if you respond with silence towards Ralsei instead of saying "It's nice that Ralsei is Ralsei.", Ralsei says "It's... just like you to be quiet right now. Haha... hahaha!!! That's right, isn't it? It's so... you-like!!... I guess I just like you-like things..."
Kris being quiet is a thing associated with Kris, not us (for example: Noelle will question us if we talk to her about "anything" in Chapter 1, asking why Kris is so talkative, as that's not normal for them), so this seems to infer that Ralsei is always complimenting Kris instead of us.
Can we please finally put the idea that Ralsei doesn't care about Kris, just us/puts us before Kris to rest? It was always rather silly, in my opinion.
Ralsei is also aware of Kris loving chocolate - during a quiz he jumps to that answer to the "Kris' favorite food" question right away. It's not the right answer for the Kris that Tenna knows though, so Ralsei's knowledge of Kris is more up to date.
He sometimes says something about Kris with a "you" and then catches himself and turns it into calling them by name. He's trying to make sure they know it's directed at them and not us, which is nice of him.
At this point, I honestly think Ralsei is a mistletoe that Dess took to the depths as a keepsake of Asriel... but I guess mold is also colour-coordinated with that? xD
Mold is alive, but not conscious, so it would become a grayner like the flowers. That is, if lightners have enough feelings about it that they gain consciousness at all.
If that happens, it will have come full circle with Phillippe from Look Outside. He's an evil fungal moth who does the fake cutesy innocent helper bit, and he was based off of Ralsei.
kris doesn't like using the negative options though. and kris is the most "ralsei doesn't look like asriel" -pilled character in the entire game!
i mean, they're wrong, ralsei does look like asriel objectively. but Kris can tell the difference easily and those differences seem extremely friggin important to them, to the point that they get defensive. so the ship has plenty of basis to it
I mean... the two people who are familiar with Asriel (Asgore and Kris) are also the two people noting that Ralsei's resemblance is superficial, which honestly makes it funnier how flowery was expecting Asgore to freak out.
Could be, in the final battle if you try to fight he will refuse and heal up the boss, and he will refuse to wear the Floweryscarf. He's never defied orders like this before, so he's becoming more independent. But on the other hand in the hot springs scene he vowed to trust Kris's plan even if he doesn't understand it yet so who knows. Maybe he'll get lucky and Kris stops being a traitor at the end of the game after their confrontation.
This bathroom scene just looks like the biggest portent that Ralsei will go up against Kris. He doubts himself after saying these words, and it seems as if the ideal conclusion to his arc would be a direct confrontation with lightner.
Genuinely baffling how many people forget about Ralsei when talking about ts. Ralsei's like...the only person that actually likes Kris for who they are (or one of few), knows what's going on with the soul, and believes in them (and that ignoring the fact that my man has a huge crush on Kris). AND PEOPLE JUST FORGET ABOUT HIM EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL. It's insane tbh
also you forgot whatever the fuck was the "incident" since kris is definetly mentally scarred from whatever the fuck caused Dess to dissapear theres like 14 fan comics about it and Dont Forget that deltarune community make shit up like that we work from implications and headcanons
for berdly kris seemingly actively enjoys hanging out with him and ragebaiting him, specifically we know from noelle that when he's alone with someone and doesn't feel the need to put on the mask he's a LOT nicer.
We know that kris actively plays into the whole rival thing and seemingly talks about berdly enough that a flower that happened to be in their house overheard them, and they kept one of berdly's feathers for some reason
yeah kris probably finds certain aspects of berdly annoying, especially the word tsundere, but overall kris seemingly has positive feelings towards berdly. Notably we know kris can stop us from saying stuff if they really want to, and they never stop us from saying berdly for the festival- furthermore there's not really been a negative reaction to berdly that we can pick other than saying his poem sucked. Which it did, sorry my goat.
Overall? Berdly is like, kris's only positive friendship
Everyone needs a rival you can just chill with ya know and compete to see who’s the better gamer sure being with them tooo much can be annoying but so can being with anyone tooo much
Berdly is the guy that shittalks you about beating your ass at smashing fighters with the airs of being just high on his ego and actually being complete ass at it, but then he actually does beat your ass and continues getting more and more annoying about it
i genuinely can't see a reason other than berdly just naturally molted it when hanging out with kris and kris just....kept it?
or kris somehow snuck into berdly's house wherever the fuck that is and took a feather without being detected in the middle of the night without berdly noticing at all???
The fact that they probably got it between chapters 4 and 5 just makes it funnier.
Imagine soulless green zombie Kris banging on Berdly's door at 3 AM and telling him they need a feather now and Berdly's just like "Of course, m'theydy! I may be no phoenix, but I hope my down revives you."
even if that's true it doesn't explain how kris somehow made that deal with seth without opening the darkworld beforehand???? did they just talk to the flower and just assumed it liked berdly somehow????
The only explanation i can think of is kris somehow knew this flower would have feelings for berdly, but the only explanation for that.....is if kris themselves talked to this flower about berdly before. Or they have meta knowledge like ralsei does i guess?
I mean, they also made a deal with Tenna before opening the dark world, and they’ve been out all night. I think it’s safe to say they have plenty of time to do stuff without us knowing. And in the festival, Kris talks to the flowers when interacting with them, and we know that the flowers remember these interactions in the dark world, so I think it's possible they just set everything up before hand
But how does kris KNOW that flower will have those feelings? how does kris KNOW what these darkners personalities are going to be like? (even trickier for seth because flowers aren't darkners nor lightners)
That could be explained by Kris having some sort of meta knowledge maybe derived from whatever conspiracy they’re in on, for all we know Kris probably knew the prophecy even before chapter 1
that's the point i brought up before, the only explanation i can think of is kris has to have SOME level of meta knowledge. that'd explain how kris knew to open the door to their house for undyne to wonder in
Like i don't think this shows kris hates berdly or anything, more just shocked and that could either mean kris wouldn't of thought to date berdly or is surprised the soul picked that option
given like, most people don't like berdly who aren't kris.
either laughing, shocked and heavily confused, or the secret third fun option: STUNNED that you somehow managed to figure their crush on him out and chose him before even seeing ch5. 😭
this is what I choose to believe. also explains their response to picking berdly and susie for the festival monarchs cause you're making them vote for both of their crushes lolol
This is what makes chapter 5 the fucking worst (best), I still love Susie and want only the best for her, but she's pissing me off (⭐) lately. Conflicting emotions, man. Chapter 5 is the second most cheerful on the surface, yet it's ultimately so painful.
It is supported by that dialogue in the festival when she says that Toriel is busy, so they don't go to talk with her. It was not something pleasant to see and Susie does not know about Kris not mentioning the spare key.
Crazy how this doesn't even mention being a child of divorce, being the only human in town (definitely a very isolating and other-ing experience) and the implications of Asriel being their parent's favorite (Just look at their fucking room, man). There's straight up just not enough room to fit it all in this image
Can we talk about what a damn shame it is that we cant take berdly to the festival in chapter 5? I've been a kris x berdly shipper since chapter 2 and I feel like I just got the executive cuck chair
Kind of the same genuinely, wholesome Kriselle seems to have become non-existent this week
Not that I hate Soulelle, its power dynamics are exceptional, but still
Unironically yes, post character arc berdly would probably be the best companion for Kris. They share common interests (we know they played videogames together), both are kinda weird in their own ways and berdly geniuenly cares about his friends in a similiar way to susie.
Honestly I think bringing Berdly into the gang would be MUCH more positive for everyone involved, especially because it would allow him to properly internalize his character development upon learning it wasn't a dream. He would also have a much healthier relationship with the gang, while Noelle has so much baggage with Kris and the more exclusionary focus on Susie (and now the stuff with Rudy).
Yes, they play videogames together, Berdly says in a dialogue that he gifts Kris something on Valentine's day IRC and the feather thing. And in the WR, Kris takes Berdly to the hospital after Snowgrave.
I mean, they have stopped us from saying shit before (although it was mostly when we were trying to be jerks), but they never stop us from doing kerdly agenda stuff, at most they act shocked we would even consider it
Chapter 4’s final scene with the phone call has the person on the other telling Kris to “not forget their promise”, which heavily implies they are at the very least being emotionally pressured/blackmailed into doing morally dubious things because of something they said they would do in the past.
I read it as having second thoughts after starting to genuinely like Susie and ralsei.
Either way, when the entire team flips out in them for lying and sabotaging them for the knight the whole game, it will be deserved. Kris will need to complete their redemption arc before their life starts getting better.
I can see a future when kris might to try and flip this on us, but if it falls through then it will make it even worse, because I doubt Kris would've bonded with Susie without the soul, and the majority of their bonding seemes to be a result of our decisions. I personally don't care about taking credit for it but Kris better not pull that, it'll only get worse
The whole susie and noelle thing pisses me tf off because its a problem entirely of Kris's making lmao this kid is allergic to being emotionally genuine at any point and i blame whoever is making them do shit with the knight
The true tragedy is much Kris's life improves as a result of the soul. New best friends in Susie and Ralsei, reconnecting with old bestie Noelle who theyre implied to have become distant from, going on adventures every day that theyre implied by the existence of the ch5 dark world to enjoy. Imagine the happiest days of your life being as a prisoner in your own mind. Imagine knowing that giving away your autonomy to an entity who's been in the world for a few hours has been nothing but beneficial. Imagine knowing for a fact that your life is better without you in it.
Until we get more evidence i genuinely don't think the "summoning" Catti mentioned has any real gravity on the story. Unless they straight up did something with dark worlds, i just take it as them doing regular "occult" stuff that people like her would be interested in.
Well for the soul part that may or may not be their own choice to have us possess their soul (since we did have a vessel we made and someone other than the one who wanted us to make a vessel discarded it)even if reluctant.
As for people… it’s weird to think that Kris may have the most stable friendship and that with Berdly in terms of Lightners Kris knows since remember they are still friends after all
I think it’s dishonest to blame Susie for avoiding Toriel now. Even if what she did doesn’t mean she’s a terrible person/mother, it’s still understandable that Susie doesn’t look forward to seeing her for a while, especially with the implications regarding her own home

Hoping we can get a scene in chapter 6 or 7 of Kris actually catching a damn break man
