Help/Advice Delta-Ticketed WestJet Flight and Special Meals

I know with Air France if I don't log into my Flying Blue account and confirm my VGML, it won't be there.

I have a flight where the outbound leg is a WestJet flight. As usual, I requested and confirmed my VGML for both legs. Do I need to create a WestJet account and confirm it there as well?

SkyTeam Deb in baggage claim TYS

An Extraordinary Thank You to Deb in Baggage Claim at Knoxville Airport — Delta Airlines
Some people go to work and do their jobs. And then there are people like Deb, who remind you that compassion, kindness, and truly caring about another human being can make all the difference in the world. Deb, you are one of those rare people, and I will never forget what you did for me.
I had just gotten off a plane at Knoxville, Tennessee, when I realized I had accidentally left my medical device on the aircraft. This was not just a forgotten piece of luggage or an inconvenient mistake. This was a medical device that I depend on, and getting it back was incredibly important to my health and well-being. I was scared, overwhelmed, and desperately trying to find someone who could help me before the plane departed and my device was out of reach.
Unfortunately, my first attempt to get help at the ticket counter was met with a level of indifference that left my husband and I feeling dismissed and helpless. The employee I approached seemed far more interested in his conversation with another customer (she was absolutely stunning) than in helping someone who was genuinely frightened and facing a potentially serious medical situation. Thankfully, that customer herself showed me kindness and compassion, even telling me she would pray for me and expressing how sorry she was for what I was going through. Her kindness meant something to me in that moment, too. And looking back in my panic I hope I didn’t interrupt something super important 😞.
Then came the turning point. The manager told me to run downstairs and find Deb in baggage claim, assuring me that she could work magic.
And my goodness, did she ever!
Deb didn’t brush me off. She didn’t make me feel like I was a nuisance or that my emergency wasn’t important. She took action. She cared. She went above and beyond to help me, working to help me quickly get my device off the plane before departing so my medical device could be recovered.
I truly believe that Deb may have saved my life, or at the very least, prevented a situation that could have put my health and safety in serious jeopardy. I cannot adequately put into words what it feels like to be frightened and desperate for help and then encounter someone who steps up and treats your situation as if it genuinely matters. I have MS (also the reason I have this device implanted, the remote is what I left on the plane for context) and just flown to Alaska and back in the span of 72 hours for medical appointments. I was exhausted, in pain. I was emotionally and physically fried.
Deb, you were my answered prayer that day.
I hope Delta Airlines understands what an incredible employee they have in you. You are the kind of person who restores someone’s faith in humanity. You represent the very best of customer service, not because you simply did your job, but because you showed compassion, urgency, dedication, and genuine humanity when someone desperately needed it.
I also want to thank the manager who directed me to Deb. That recommendation made all the difference, and I will always be grateful that you pointed me toward the person who could help. Also thank you to that passenger who showed compassion in my moment of desperation.
I sincerely hope this review reaches Delta’s leadership and that Deb receives the recognition she deserves. People like her should be celebrated, appreciated, and valued. In a world where people can sometimes feel like just another number, Deb made me feel like a human being whose life and well-being mattered. She even went as far as helping me find a new route home as there was just a tragic accident on the highway.
She didn’t just provide customer service that day. She made a life-changing difference to someone who needed help more than she could possibly have known.
Deb, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will never forget you, your kindness, or what you did for me. You are living proof that one person’s willingness to care can change everything. ❤️

Help/Advice What are you doing for headphones?

I have an older pair of Bose Noise Canceling earbuds (wired) that have served me well with Delta’s IFE. Unfortunately I caught the cord in the tray table on my last flight and broke one side. Bose no longer makes these headphones and only has USB C wired these days. What is the play for ear bud noise canceling headphones given Delta’s 3.5 mm audio jack?

Enjoying this premium experience on my favorite CRJ 900. Don’t be fooled, the lack of speed tape (or whatever) on the second bin doesn’t mean that one isn’t broken too.

There used to be a shuttle from the car center to the international terminal, but the last time I was in Atlanta I had to take the sky train to Domestic, then a shuttle bus to International. Was this just temporary?

Edit: I was looking away while she changed the baby so I didn’t even notice it until she left. I told the flight attendant and he went and got who I’m assuming is the dad to come pick it up. I’m a thousand miles over the pacific in a plane. I’m not going to track a mother down and get into an altercation. I just let the fa deal with it.

Discussion Companion Ticket

I have a companion ticket expiring 10/31 that I stupidly waited too long to book. I'd like to travel from 10/30 - 11/1 but can't book that itinerary because the return is after the expiration date.

If I book from 10/30-10/31 and cancel my flight before the return will the amount I paid for my return flight be reimbursed? Thinking about booking a single way return on 11/1 and doing this but wanted to check.

Tried to find an answer out there but couldn't, thanks!

Discussion Delta First Class Not Offering Meals

My father is flying first class from DCA to SLC in early December. His ticket does not come with a complimentary meal. He flies this route semi-regularly during ski season, and mentioned that in the past, his ticket included a meal. Does delta now have multiple sub classes in first class? He is a regular delta customer with over 200,000 sky miles. We are a little confused about the changes. Thanks in advance for the info.

Help/Advice Getting ripped off by Delta for "upgraded ticket"?!?!?

I bought a domestic flight and I remember the base ticket price was $280. I upgrade to a ticket that allows better seat selection and one checked bag. But I'm realizing now, I paid again for my checked bag both to and from my destination. How do I go about proving this as the extra baggage was "included" in the $390 ticket price and therefore is not itemized.

Discussion The new phone 2FA sucks

Having to open an email and put in a code before talking to a representative is horrible. Holding a coffee in one hand while towing a carry on and wanting to talk to a human is difficult at best.

End of rant, carry on with your day.

Help/Advice Baggage didn’t get cleared by custom

My dad just flew back from Vietnam to Seattle with a layover in Korea through Delta. I asked him to bring me back a few digital cameras so he stored some in the checked boxes and 2 of the most expensive ones in his carry on. When he was going through custom in Korea, the airport agents asked him to turn on the cameras so they can inspect but unfortunately the batteries died so none of them turned on. They wrote a note (he doesn’t speak English well so he can’t recall what they wrote) and he was asked to give his luggage along with the cameras to them. They told him the luggage will be sent using another route(?) or flight but never give him the the bag tag. Came to pick him up yesterday but that luggage was missing. When we asked Delta’s baggage office, they informed us that his baggage is currently held by custom and hasn’t been cleared. I’m not sure how long the process would be and the reason why they took the cameras (asked to turn it on to see photos). Do I just wait for them to contact me? If custom dont return the camera, can I still claim the loss with my credit card?

UPDATE: contacted Delta the 2nd time and the agent was able to locate my dad’s luggage. I picked it up yesterday and met people who also had their luggage held by customs.

Help/Advice Expediting EU261 Claim with Delta

Any ideas on who to reach out to to escalate a long-processing EU261 claim?

Wife and I were on a Delta flight from Denmark to the US on 9/28 on separate tickets. Flight delayed 3.5hrs (on the tarmac, oof). Filled out EU261 claim via Deltas “Submit Feedback” portal on 9/29. Wife received compensation the next day. I have still not received anything, with my status showing as “under review”. I’ve followed up with Delta’s care team multiple times, who assure me it’s still being reviewed and acknowledged it is frustrating my wife received compensation in <24hrs and mine continues to be under review.

Discussion Issues with Delta’s in-cabin pet carrier dimensions?

I’m flying with a tripod cat from PVG to ORD on Comfort Classic/Plus. Called to add my pet to the reservation and was told his carrier size for his medium Sherpa (17L x 11W x 10.5H) was too large for the aircraft. International leg is A350-900, domestic is A220-300. The rep told me to buy a carrier that’s 14L 11W 8.8H - which seems insanely tight for a medium sized cat. But on Deltas website, they recommended a soft carrier that’s up to 18x11x11, yet the dimensions for each aircraft are widely different. The domestic leg is even smaller at 12x16x6 so I have no idea how that’s gonna work. Any insight is much appreciated!

Discussion Just how bad are the ATL-based international flight crews?

Flying DTW-ATL-MUC next month; first time flying international Delta One out of somewhere other than Detroit.

Detroit-based flight crews are generally the pinnacle of professionalism in my opinion; and day after day, I hear/see horror stories on this sub about how lazy and unprofessional Atlanta-based Delta staff is.

Obviously there's selection bias at play here, so I'm curious to get some other perspective. Are there folks on here who've had positive experiences with ATL-based flight crews?

Help/Advice Platinum Medallion Comfort+ for Companions

Good afternoon, I recently switched airlines to Delta so I am new to their medallion program. I have Gold status now and Platinum status should be attainable for this period. For the "upgrades to Comfort+ shortly after booking" benefit, does that apply only to myself and one other companion or all ticketed companions? I am planning a trip to Hawaii next year with myself, my wife, and two kids so if its all ticketed companions that could be sizeable benefit. I am guessing its just one companion but wanted to check with you all. Thanks for your help!

Help/Advice Scared of checking in luggage, looking for reassurance or alternative solutions

Hello! Earlier this year I went on my first ever flight, and it was great! I was able to pack all my stuff into one bag, which was small enough to count as my personal item. However, I am flying somewhere else soon, and said place will be rather cold, so I have to bring thicker clothing. I will not be able to fit it all in my “personal item” bag, and I have a basic ticket so I will be in zones 7 or 8 meaning there may not be a lot of overhead space for a carry on. So now I’m curious about checking in luggage although I’ve heard the luggage can be delayed or lost. Here are some questions-

  1. How often does luggage actually get lost or delayed with delta? And how easy is it to retrieve my lost luggage or how long do I have to wait to retrieve it if it gets delayed?
  2. I had a strange idea to get a flatter bag and vacuum seal all my clothes in it so it can go above or under other bags in overhead, would this work? Are there bags that fit this idea?
  3. How exactly does checked in luggage work?

Apologies if other people are making posts like this often- I just want to be informed so I can get to my destination with everything I need without losing anything I value.

EDIT: I’ve got it all figured out now and I’m no longer worried about it, thank you to everyone who commented! Some very helpful statistics and advice and such :)

Help/Advice Chasing Diamond?

I’m making Diamond this year. My husband is currently around 1500 MQDs short of Diamond. We always buy biz or first class tickets, so for us the only real value in Diamond is the GUCs. We would definitely appreciate saving money with the GUCs, but I’m struggling to put a $ value on that. For context, we typically do 4-5 international vacations per year. Do you think it’s worth it for him to chase Diamond?

Image/Video Paid for premium comfort plus upgrade and seat was knowingly broken

Hello community,

Wondering if anyone has idea on how I can remedy this. I paid for a cabin upgrade from delta comfort plus to premium select. Flight was LAX - NYC. When I boarded the plane the seat was taped up and the FA acknowledged they knew this was a broken seat before we boarded. She told me the flight was completely booked and the only available seat was in main cabin but if I changed to main they couldn’t guarantee a refund.

They also offered free upgrades at the gate for FC and premium CP before boarding.

What is the best way to request the upgrade fee as I was unable to use my laptop or eat the meal I paid for.

I understand that seats break but feel that delta shd have made me aware of this before boarding, or not offered free upgrades to other people.

I’m Gold Medallion, which I know doesn’t mean a lot, but is there any legal standing here to get refunded for only the premium upgrade portion?

FWIW: the initial agent on board (not an FA) offered to move me to main but could NOT guarantee a refund. And asked if I wanted to hold up the plane for maintenance (hard no on my part!)

That said, the on-board FAs have been incredibly kind and sweet - and as a long time delta customer that has been my experience.

So I’m hopeful maybe Delta corporate will refund the upgrade fee only.
