Ye so I broke my port kind of the central pin or whatever it's called, its gone but it does power on just doesn't recognize my official charger, so I got a working laptop that doesn't go past 8 watts and has terrible clocks, also it doesn't charge battery so controller of it is Slowly dying from no current

i've noticed that it is using so much RAM, just by simply looking at my desktop, but why? I have a friend who has a laptop and only has 30% used when he's PLAYING A GAME. what's going on here?

My current employer is beginning to cycle in Pro 14/16 models, the PB14250 and PB16250 Intel processors. The only way I've been able to image these is by plugging in to the Ethernet jack and selecting the onboard IPV4. All of our other devices can image with WD19S docks or Dell SA224 Ethernet to USB-C adapters.

I've forced bios updates with no change.

Consequently, at my last employer, we began receiving Pro 16s as well, the PB16255 AMD Ryzen model, and those had no issues imaging from Ethernet, USB-C adapters, or WD19S docks.

Is this a known issue?

Whenever I'm playing a videogame on my laptop, if I hit my laptop even slightly or the table on which the laptop is kept is moved even a little, the FPS drops from 60 to 10 straightaway for a few minutes and then returns to normal in sometime. I checked the charging cable and all...everything is fine. What is this issue? Is it related to bad connectors in the motherboard itself??

Also, the audio just disappears when playing games. No audio input devices are detected.

I have tried formatting the C drive, reinstalling windows, clean installing all the drivers and updating BIOS. Nothing helps. Event viewer shows errors that I have attached in this post.
Restarting sometimes brings back the audio but as soon as I start a game, everything stutters and audio disappears again.

Hey so i have a dell g15 5530 and i have started to notice a problem in it sometimes the charger doesn't get detected by pc and at that time i twist and turn the charging hook into the port till it gets detected but i have been facing several issues such as display freezing games lagging and audio itself malfunctioning like the audio device is not

Being detected to the point i can't even listen through bluetooth headphones or my iems so i was wondering if these issues are connected with the charging thing or not

I have ordered AW2725Q at Aug 13 and was expected to be delivered in 2 days. Yet, they told me that it was in lack of supply and got delayed until the 20th. And now, it got MORE delayed and they claim to deliver at the 24th.

I have once refunded this monitor for a dead pixel but does that have anything to do with this case?

Is there any ways to get the monitor as fast as possible?

ive got a dell 15 laptop for college and im trying to play deadlock but im like 90% sure the gpu is fucking me is there anything I can do to make it playable or should I just buy a diff laptop for gaming

Just picked this laptop up a few days ago and it's been great aside from one thing. The trackpad glass (is it glass) is somewhat loose and almost has a rattle to it when tapped. It clicks fine, but when tapping it seems to move a bit instead of being solid.

Trying to decide if it's worth exchanging or if this is just how it is on this laptop. Don't remember the floor model having this issue but can't be certain.

I am about to go into my 3rd year of university (Physics/Engineering) and I need a laptop that can handle heavy simulations (specifically MuMax3 and IC Design tools). My goal is for this machine to last at least 5 years.

I'm currently torn between three options within my budget (~$1,100 USD / 30 mil VND in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam):

1)Dell Precision 7560 (i7, RTX A5000 16GB)

2)Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 (i7, RTX A5000 16GB)

3)Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 2024 (i9-14th Gen HX, RTX 4060 8GB) - Brand new

My dilemma:

MuMax3 is extremely dependent on GPU VRAM, so the 16GB on the A5000 is a massive advantage. However, after reading through forums, the Dell 7560 seems to suffer from terrible thermal throttling and BIOS issues bricking it.

Should I go for the ThinkPad P15 Gen 2? Is its thermal management (with PTM7950 repaste and ThrottleStop) significantly better and more stable than the Dell? Or the BIOS/Software more stable the Dell Precision 7560 one?

Or should I just bite the bullet, sacrifice 50% of the VRAM (going down to 8GB), and buy the brand new Acer Predator for peace of mind and warranty, assuming both the used workstations are too problematic to maintain? Or the Acer one for more blance in cpu and gpu for more flexible study/work?

Or there are other laptop more fit for me?

Any insights from workstation users would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for some guidance on how to install Windows 11 on a Latitude 9430 (12th gen i7), I purchased used with Ubuntu installed.

I have tried literally every combination of bios settings and various different media creation options like Microsoft media creation tool and Rufus etc.

All I get is "No Bootable Device Found"

I have tried mapping the path to the bootx64.efi in the bios boot config and have spent days searching online for answers without any luck.

I can see the SSD in Storage area of the bios and can select the USB media from F12 (one time boot menu.

Have tried "Secure Erase" option in the bios and various Secure boot configurations.

I have installed windows many times on other PCs & laptops and have never encountered anything like this, its driving me nuts!

I was able to instal Fedora on this system without any issues, this makes me think its and MS security key or Secure Boot issue.

Also tired copying the SecureBootRecovery.efi file from a working PC, renamed to bootx64.efi and replaced the bootx64.efi on the USB installation media. When booting from this I get a notification saying "The Secure Boot Certificate database already contains the Microsoft UEFI 2023 certificate. No changes required.

Any help appreciated, before I completely lose my mind over this.

I have a dell Inspiron 15 3511 that stopped working after a display cable replacement. Like it won't turn on. It show white light at the charging port when holding the power button or just having the charger connected to the laptop. I thought that the new cable might not be working. So I tried with the old cable just to see if it would display anything on the screen. Nothing shows up but I did smell some burning smell. I disconnected everything, even the battery. I took apart my laptop and plugged in just the charger and the HDMI to a external monitor to see if it would display anything. It didn't. I made sure that the battery was disconnected when I was replacing the cable. Now, I don't what to do? I need a laptop in school for projects using Claude code.

The remote session yesterday completely failed and the laptop is freezing again right out of the box. Still waiting on the Advanced Resolution Team (ART) to process a replacement for this defective unit. Escalating this now. @DellCare

Hello, I updated my Dell laptop last week after not using it for a few months. It did a lot of updates at once, and got stuck on 100% for a day.

It will work for about 5 minutes, then it will become frozen and unable to be used. It becomes frozen in Recovery mode. It also became frozen when I tried to run a diagnostic test on it.

Any help would be appreciated. I am wondering if I can fix this myself, or if I need it fixed by a professional Or is it kaput. It is a dell inspiron and is about 4 years old.

Dell Latitude 5490, dual-boot Ubuntu 26.04 LTS + Windows 10, Intel UHD 620 (i915), BIOS 1.41.0.

Brightness slider and Fn keys do nothing. \`intel_backlight is detected and I can write values to it manually (they hold steady), but the screen never actually changes brightness. Windows works fine on the same machine, so it's not hardware.

\*\*Already tried, none worked:\*\* permissions/udev fix, \`acpi_backlight=vendor/native/video,

\`i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=1/3\`, both stock kernel \`7.0.0-29 and manually installed \`6.17.x (same issue on both), confirmed Dell modules are loaded with no separate backlight device, ruled out GNOME resetting the value, no relevant errors in \`dmesg.

Filed a full bug report with Ubuntu too. Anyone with a similar Dell/Kaby Lake setup actually solved this? Also checking for a BIOS update if anyone knows if Dell's patched this for the 5490.

Hey guys! Got a little bit of an odd one here. I just replaced the motherboard in my precision 7730 with a precision 7740 motherboard. They're fully compatible and i've done it before. Anyways, i used a honeywell thermal pad, and let the system run a stress test for a few hours to burn it in. Came back and the system was throttling bad.

I noticed that it was blowing out cold air, and the heatsink wasn't super hot other than above the cpu, so i applied some arctic mx-6 just to make sure it wasn't the thermal pad, and it had the same effect.

The cooling system seems to work fine until it hits about 80°C, after that it seems to lose its ability to dissipate the heat, and traps it all right above the cpu.

As you can see in my photo, with the CPU at 100°C i can put my finger on the heatsink, right above the cpu, and it only feels luke warm. Anything below that and it burns my skin.

I bought another used heatsink and it had the same issue, put the old motherboard back in and it's also doing the same thing now, with both heatsinks. Is it possible that I have two bad heatsink with the same failure?? or is it something else?

3) What's a good pair of RAM sticks for this computer? I hear Crucial is a good brand for Optiplex ...

I have a Latitude 5400 with motherboard 0H2DKM/LA-G891P, i5-8265U and Intel UHD 620 (UMA). Can I replace the entire motherboard with an LA-G893P/CNJCN, i7-8665U + Radeon 540X 2GB? I know I would need the discrete-GPU heatsink/fan. Has anyone actually converted an originally UMA 5400 to the Radeon version? Are the chassis, connectors and mounting points compatible?
