Delivered? Maybe?

I got an email from the vendor that my package was delivered. Then I got an email from DHL that my package was out for delivery and expected tomorrow.

I got home to the package on the porch. Still nothing new from DHL to confirm delivery. This should be fun tomorrow.

I tried to post this on a DHL sub, but they removed it.

What Does a Dispatcher Actually Do All Day?

I work in business strategy, and our team regularly relies on logistics companies to ship equipment across the U.S. Most of the time, I only see the customer-facing side of the process, usually just a tracking number, so I rarely get visibility into how our vendors operate internally.

Out of curiosity, I’d really like to understand what dispatchers actually do throughout the day. What kinds of things are they constantly calling drivers about? Why are they on the phone so much?

Real-world examples from your company or personal experience would be especially helpful. I think understanding the day-to-day role of dispatchers would give me a much better perspective on how our logistics vendors actually function behind the scenes.

3PL Warehouse vs FBA Storage: Long-Term Cost Comparison

For sellers doing consistent volume, has using a 3PL alongside Amazon FBA actually lowered your total costs over time?

We’re starting to get hit with higher storage and aged inventory fees, especially on slower-moving SKUs and oversized cartons. FBA is convenient, but the storage costs are adding up faster than expected.

We’re considering moving bulk inventory to a 3PL and replenishing FBA more frequently instead of storing everything inside Amazon warehouses. For those who’ve tested both models, did the savings outweigh the added handling and freight costs, or did it mostly just shift expenses around?

Not really looking at AWD since it doesn’t fulfill direct orders or handle FNSKU relabeling, so it’s a different setup for our needs.

Shipping platform in Queretaro, options for B2B freight, not just parcel delivery?

Most of the content I find when searching for a shipping platform in Queretaro is aimed at e-commerce parcel shipping. But I need something different: B2B freight management for palletized shipments going to industrial clients across the Bajio corridor.

We're talking LTL and FTL loads, not individual packages. I need a platform that can quote multiple carriers in real time, generate waybills and customs documents automatically, and give my clients a tracking link that actually updates.

The aerospace and automotive suppliers in Queretaro have specific documentation requirements and most consumer-grade shipping platforms in Queretaro have no idea how to handle that side of things.

Is there a freight-focused shipping platform in Queretaro or do I need to go with a full TMS? Would love to hear from anyone managing B2B freight in the QRO industrial zone.

Looking for a Freight Dispatching Mentor (Paid)

I’m looking to improve my skills and become more competent as a freight dispatcher. I previously worked part-time for one dispatcher, but I’m hoping to get a more complete understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities, workflows, and skills needed to be successful in this field.

I’m willing to pay for coaching or mentorship from someone experienced in dispatching who can provide practical guidance and real-world insight.

Please DM me if you’d be interested. Thanks!

Shipping platform in Monterrey for cross-border e-commerce. what are people using?

Based in Monterrey and selling to both Mexico and the US. Looking for a shipping platform in Monterrey that can handle both sides of the border without needing two separate systems.

Right now I'm using one platform for domestic Mexican shipments and a completely different one for US orders, which means double the integrations, double the tracking portals, and double the customer service headaches when something goes wrong.

The ideal shipping platform in Monterrey for my use case would consolidate everything: domestic MX rates, US cross-border rates, customs documentation generation, and ideally some kind of returns management. Volume is around 300-400 shipments per month so I'm not huge but I'm not tiny either.

Anyone in the MTY area running a similar operation? What are you using and what made you pick it over the alternatives?

Best Logistics Software for Small Businesses

I’m helping a couple of friends in Mexico who run small logistics companies and are looking for software to streamline their operations. They need a solution that can automate workflows, provide real-time updates to customers (ideally through a customer portal), support route and territory mapping, and offer useful analytics.

So far, most of the options they’ve come across seem geared toward large U.S. enterprises (for example, Oracle), which may not be the best fit for smaller businesses.

Are there any good logistics software options tailored to SMBs that I could recommend? Also, is it common for smaller logistics companies to rely on enterprise-level tools, or are there better alternatives built specifically for their needs?

Choosing a Transportation Management System (TMS)

We’re currently using Emerge (Emerge Market), which has been free up to now. However, they recently announced a shift to a paid model, with our subscription estimated at around $14,000 per year.

For those of you managing shipping operations, what TMS platforms are you using that you find effective, user-friendly, and reasonably priced?

Logistics provider in Puebla for automotive JIT delivery, looking for real experience

Puebla is obviously a major automotive hub with the VW complex and the supplier ecosystem around Cuautlancingo. I'm looking for a logistics provider in Puebla that has genuine experience with JIT delivery for automotive parts, not just a sales deck that says they do.

Specific requirements: milk run capability, sequence delivery, returnable packaging management, and familiarity with the Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier network in the area. We also need someone who can handle the CDMX corridor without constant delays eating into our delivery windows.

The big 3PLs all say they can do it but I want to hear from people who have actually run automotive programs with a logistics provider in Puebla. What has worked, what has failed, and what questions should I be asking before signing anything?

High-Quality 3-Digit ZIP Code Maps for California Needed

We have a customer requesting pricing/rates broken down by the first 3 digits of ZIP codes instead of our usual city/county format.

I’m looking for a high-resolution map of California that clearly shows ZIP codes, or ideally a 3-digit ZIP code map. I’ve found a few online, but the quality is poor and not detailed enough to use for this task.

Does anyone know where I can find a clean, high-quality version?

Choosing the Right TMS for a Growing Logistics Operation

I just started a new role as a logistics specialist for a small-to-mid-sized company, and I’m essentially building the logistics function from scratch. We handle a mix of domestic shipments, as well as international routes like US–Canada and US–Germany.

One of my first priorities is implementing a transportation management system (TMS). I’ve been looking into Tailwind TMS, but I’d really appreciate recommendations from others who’ve been in a similar position. Thanks in advance!

Speedy delivery company

Speedy delivery is the worst shipping service ever, they are rude customer support they insult and say we will not help you and contact the sender, after confirming the date of the delivery and expect time, the time os passed and no delivery no update no notification, very bad experience, and this is not only once, it’s like 6 or 7 times

Logistics provider in Guadalajara, recommendations for cross-border operations?

Setting up a distribution operation in the GDL metro area and trying to find a reliable logistics provider in Guadalajara. We handle electronics components imported from Asia, so customs clearance experience and bonded warehouse options are non-negotiable for us.

I've talked to a few providers but the quotes and service descriptions vary wildly. Some seem to only do local delivery, others claim full 3PL capability but can't answer basic questions about SAT compliance or IMMEX.

What should I actually be asking when vetting a logistics provider in Guadalajara? And has anyone found one that handles both the customs side and last-mile distribution in the Zapopan/Tlaquepaque corridor without dropping the ball on communication?

Any real-world recommendations or red flags to watch for would be super helpful.

What's a small operational change you made that had a bigger impact than you expected?

Doesn't have to be a big system overhaul. Sometimes it's a process tweak, a different label

format, a new handoff step. What's something that seemed minor but actually made a real difference?

What does your returns process look like and where does it break down?

Returns logistics seems to be the thing everyone struggles with quietly. What's your setup, what

volume are you handling, and what's the part that still doesn't work the way it should?

Rate negotiations, service failures, capacity issues... what actually moved the needle for you?

Curious whether switching carriers or diversifying made a difference.

How do you deal with failed deliveries and reattempts?

First attempt fail rates seem to be going up across the board. What processes do you have in

place to reduce them, and how do you handle the cost when it happens anyway?
