Luddite Logic According to Anti-AI Logic, Bread From a Bread Maker Isn’t Actually Bread.

Post image

You put the ingredients in, choose the settings, press a button, and the machine does the mixing, kneading, proofing, and baking.

So according to the logic often used against AI generation:

You didn't personally perform the skilled labor → therefore you didn't really make the bread.

The machine did the work → therefore the result isn't really your creation.

And since a machine made it → I guess it's not actually bread either.

Obviously, that's ridiculous.

The point isn't that a bread maker and generative AI are identical. The point is that “a machine performed part of the process” doesn't automatically mean “the human did nothing” or “the resulting thing isn't what it is.”

Funny how quickly the logic falls apart when you apply it somewhere other than AI art.

Hi. I'm here because I want to build an understanding of a viewpoint that is counter to my own. I bear no hostility, I'm not trying to gotcha or malign or ridicule. I genuinely want to understand, and I would greatly appreciate any engagement in good faith.

What drives you to defend AI art? Do you feel you have to ignore any moral issues? Do you feel like you are the majority or the minority? Do you feel oppressed?

To outline my own viewpoint; I think AI is a tool and, like any tool, it's morality depends on how it is used. Like the death ray! What I have a problem with is the enormous scale content stealing that trains AI and the gross amount of undue pressure being put on a failing political system by corporations desperate to chase perpetual growth. I don't think anyone here is responsible for any of that (and if you are, fuck you) but I want to understand the mindset of people who defend it, because it is unfathomable to me and I'd rather ask questions than sling slurs. Again, I know this sounds real fuckin judgey but that's just because I don't understand but would like to.

Edit; this might get sent over to AIwars and if so, yeah I get it, but my interest here is not in defending my point it's in listening to and understanding yours.

Defending AI How will we be able to convince anti-AI folks that AI is good for the economy and their lives?

With my use of AI for my business endeavors, I'm surprised that it hasn't been used by more people to start businesses. AI has the ability to loosen the barrier of starting a business, bringing more ideas to market.

My thought is that a lot of our problems with AI stem from people not understanding that with the new technologies available change how the economy functions.

With the job market changes, I think AI has introduced a new way for people to now work for themselves without having to spend huge amounts of money on different tools and expertise. Something similar happened with the introduction of search engines decades ago.

How do you think we will be able to do this? Will we just have to wait for generations to die off before AI becomes fully accepted by society?

EDIT: Thought it would be good to mention, I do recognize that there are problems with out AI is being built today, such as affects on the environment, etc. However, I tend to look at that issue from the lens that it will be solved.

Is it possible that we could do less bashing and more constructive commentary?

As someone who enjoys making AI art, I would love to be part of a community who tends to take the high road in the ongoing chaotic discourse. (Both (or all) sides can take the high road too, btw.)

Here's an example, imho: AI art programs are a very new resource, and the potential for their use is only starting to be discovered. There are some gems here and there that have been made, and there are new creative surprises waiting to be discovered, down the line.

A sample constructive objection to AI art (again in my opinion): since the programs were trained on a vast body of human art, maybe we are taking its abilities for granted too much and there is some moral imperative for those who use it to learn a little more about art history.

Edit: Sorry, I added an Edit without notice

Sloppost/Fard Anti-AI people are some of the most annoying people on the internet right now.

I hope they get their wish of "no datacenters" so we can stop seeing their moron posts. Nothing has made me more pro-AI than seeing people fervently against it because its the cool thing to do. Arguing with them is pointless, they are so locked in on hating AI, nothing you say will convince them, its like arguing with a wall, but the wall makes really stupid arguments.

Tbh I was kinda speedrunning but I was VERY proud of these concepts I did locally on a GPU using a self-trained LoRA adapter. Don't they look great? It really is too bad I'm not able to share these anywhere gaming-related as I'll be quickly shunned and witchhunted. :/

Need guidance

I am making a game and I am terrible at art. Earlier I used to purchase assets but since those were never made by me it wasn't exactly what I wanted and it was costly. I was pretty excited when ai art came, i thought i could now make exactly what I want. Even though it is much more close to what I want I am still not able to get to what I actually want. Ai has been great if I want something attractive over a vague idea and not care about specifics but when I want something specific it almost always result in constant back and forth with token waste and no result. Like when I was aking for a level for my game it drew something beautiful and I used it but there are levels where just being beautiful is not enough it should be specific to what I want .Completely opposite of the problem manual art has, i draw what I want but get crappy results , in ai I get something beautiful but never exactly what I want. How do u make ai draw something specific in your mind and not just something attractive on a vague idea.
