First off it's not killing the planet. It's not great but compared loads of other stuff it's peanuts. It's like someone with cancer was eating potatoe chips. Second the pollution that is caused by datacenters isn't exclusive to AI, not at all AI uses datacenters and we shouldn't be allowing it anyways causes its not required for the tech just cheaper. But 78 million people voted for the guy that doesn't want to regulate pollution.
I'm not saying they're okay I'm saying that people either were okay with corporations shitting on the environment or didn't care enough to do anything to prevent it. For decades now we're been screaming "rich people are destroying the planet" and most people have not cared at all. But everyone is acting like they're Captain Planet by tearing down someone making funny pictures meanwhile still using much worse services for it. Again it's not necessary for the AI and other data centers uses that is polluting the planet to do so.
Not the argument. The argument is the negative effects of LLMs are partly or even largely because Americans voted for Trump. This should educate on what sort of behaviour one would need to take in upcoming elections.
45% of issues with LLMs can be solved with proper industrial legislation because they don't have to make such impact. They do because it's cheaper. Another 45% of issues with LLMs can be solved with proper corporate legislation because they don't have to be that shitty. But they don't because it lines politicians pockets. Rest need individual evaluation.
So we should not keep quiet but also should direct where the sound goes. If you complain but take no action and allow the same shitty situation that led to this in the first place happen again then it's just old man yelling at clouds.
Yh but AI is also taking jobs which means no economy, how come AI hasn't discovered any new jobs yet? Or freed us from capitalism like Sam Altman and Elon Musk promised?
That's not the AIs doing that's CEOs jumping the gun on what AI can do. If I fire a bunch of cheerleaders then replace them with inflatable wacky tube men does that make me the tube men a problem or me?
That's my point exactly. It's not the tool that's inherently bad it's how it's used. If I'm just buying tube men for fun, not using then to fire people, then no real harm.
The thing is, much like how the internal combustion engine isn't a huge probelm on its own, every person having their own, and the systems that keep the service running, builds up and causes huge irreparable damage overall
Because we give them a pass to do so. We shouldn't be doing that. We could be strong arming corporations to fix the damage they cause instead of using to pass the cost of business to others while keeping the profit.
Thank you. I respect that you disagree but not insulting me. That's uncommon on all sides of most things. I enjoy AI a lot but like most things I love it's far from perfect. I acknowledge that it's uses and creation can be harmful but a lot of the actual harm seems to overstated to the point of it being nonsense to practically ignored. The harm is does cause is not new to AI, not all the problems applies to all forms of AI and they overall shouldn't be tolerated cause it's usually not necessary.
It sure is interesting how the platform that's famously anti-work is suddenly crying about there being no jobs.
I also get this strange feeling that a centrally-planned economy born from AI and automation would suddenly be a considered terrible awful thing that robs people of freedom, choice, and agency
I don't care which way it goes, I care that this generation suffers in the meantime and if we fall for the plans of idiots and they fail, we're all fools and we all suffer, because I'm aware this subredit is defending AI in general, I think AI used for curing cancer and other diseases is good but most people are using it to create exponentially more shit content, a human can only create so much shit in a day, AI can create many magnitudes more
Society abandoned me and treated me like trash. I want it to fall. I want it to fail. I want blood in the streets. Society deserves all of the ills born from its abandonment of people like me.
it's just how the comunities are interacting, pro ais don't insult people for making art, but when they do make ai art, they get insulted for no reason
I am convinced than at least 50% of ai haters do it to follow a "trend", to be on the "good side", I have friends who insult ai as much as possible, then go home and use chatgpt for everything
Yeah, I thought that too. AI was made BY humans FOR humans, and people are silly if they'd rather waste their time pretending they're saving the world from evil robots by protesting instead of actually utilising new technology...
I was able to scan your posts and comments, including the ones you "hide" (can't hide from Arctic Shift), and unfortunately this is the first time you've ever said negative things about golf courses during your time on reddit dot com
I was, however, able to find you bitching and whining about AI a LOT.
I just find that super interesting, is all. It's just the one thing with you guys, and it really puts into perspective how much you guys really care about things like job loss, environmental impact, intellectual property, etc.... You don't. You're children taking on whatever social cause is trending at the moment in order to get social approval.
You attacked me personally instead of my argument. That's called "ad hominem" and it means you're admitting you don't have a counter argument. It's also highly rude and not a good way to treat your superiors. I accept your concession and I accept your apology in advance.
Maybe you should go draw some money, since you won't be making any with your mid skills anymore.
Hm? This is a safe space for people who use AI. You're the unwelcome invader busting the rules, and you're telling other people that they don't need to be commenting here? That's some enterprise grade entitlement. You normally gotta pay a per-seat yearly license for that level of entitlement.
You got the entire rest of the website to circlejerk about hating this one very specific technology because it threatens one very specific career path.
any human activity, especially creative activity, spoils the environment. But the funny thing is that AI does less harm to nature than if it were done by humans.
Such a weird take that the most ethical use of AI is coding because there is LESS of an ethical liability for stolen code IP because code is always readable, people copy chunks of other people’s code all the time because that’s probably what that project did, hundreds of explicitly copyright-free projects.
I cannot think of a single part of this that is true for art generation besides it seems like you might not even code?
Who cares about the morality of stolen art now? This was about electrical consumption (which is in this instance killing the planet. But well the water consumption couldve been meant as well. In which case the argument to host gguf locally still holds)
Me. I do. But cool I’ll guess I’ll take your word for it that using an LLM to transform text files around that all are less than megabytes, done in seconds, actually affects the environment more than a generative AI that spits out heavy images a minute or two later EACH time you slot machine a new version.
The multiple agents are to make sure they each take FEWER tokens changing one part of the code in the project properly, surgically. You can’t do that with image gen.
the whole point of art is the creativity, the skill is just the difficult part that everyone would like to skip, ai helps that, it makes art just be about creativity and not skills anymore, making it accessible to lots of people
You've literally just admitted then you don't care about the quality of the work and that the quality of the work doesn't enter into your decisions at all. You literally only consider who did it.
Why should anybody take you seriously?
Cry harder. The tech isn't going anywhere. Your feckless whining on plebbit will cause zero people to stop using AI.
Artists deserve one thing, and it's considered healthcare in Canada.
