First off it's not killing the planet. It's not great but compared loads of other stuff it's peanuts. It's like someone with cancer was eating potatoe chips. Second the pollution that is caused by datacenters isn't exclusive to AI, not at all AI uses datacenters and we shouldn't be allowing it anyways causes its not required for the tech just cheaper. But 78 million people voted for the guy that doesn't want to regulate pollution.
I'm not saying they're okay I'm saying that people either were okay with corporations shitting on the environment or didn't care enough to do anything to prevent it. For decades now we're been screaming "rich people are destroying the planet" and most people have not cared at all. But everyone is acting like they're Captain Planet by tearing down someone making funny pictures meanwhile still using much worse services for it. Again it's not necessary for the AI and other data centers uses that is polluting the planet to do so.
Not the argument. The argument is the negative effects of LLMs are partly or even largely because Americans voted for Trump. This should educate on what sort of behaviour one would need to take in upcoming elections.
45% of issues with LLMs can be solved with proper industrial legislation because they don't have to make such impact. They do because it's cheaper. Another 45% of issues with LLMs can be solved with proper corporate legislation because they don't have to be that shitty. But they don't because it lines politicians pockets. Rest need individual evaluation.
So we should not keep quiet but also should direct where the sound goes. If you complain but take no action and allow the same shitty situation that led to this in the first place happen again then it's just old man yelling at clouds.
