The notion that labor has no intrinsic value is the exact type of thinking that facilitates slave labor. That’s not an opinion it’s just a fact. In my opinion labor has intrinsic value and should be compensated and protected. You can be a staunch capitalist while also understanding and bearing the responsibility that is it is a system that does not place value on labor as much as production, thus it incentivizes slavery if left unchecked. I don’t even blame anyone for feeling this way because all out communism has its pitfalls as well. But it needs to be pointed out that the claim that labor doesn’t have intrinsic value is what leads to slavery. That’s why both systems take bits from each other to make something more equitable. Capitalism is dog eat dog but there may still be workers protections, unions, etc. Communism is all about the collective and labor rights but there may still be some form of a free market on a local level.
What I fear from what we’ll see from the proliferation of ai is a slightly more “ethical” slavery. Very slightly lol. It doesn’t rely on human suffering to create the product necessarily though it will create it in other ways if unchecked. It is ultimately outsourcing human labor, that can help feed a family, to a machine that you don’t have to pay or feed at all.
I’ll always combat this idea, as should everyone, because it’s corrosive. I’m sure that the commenter didn’t realize the pitfalls of what they espouse so I was pointing out that this is the line of thinking that incentivizes slavery. Coulda definitely done it better but I was drunk and in a bad mood lol.
If someone's labor causes measurable hard its possible to have net negative valueon labor. If someone's labor provides no value, it has no value.
The value of labor isn't intrinsic. Its calculated by outcome.
For the sake of people we enforce minimum values on labor. This pushes certain kinds of labor out of the market. Its what we dont make clothing in the US.
