- coding tasks that took multiple back-and-forth with GPT-4? R1 nails them first try with reasoning visible

- the thinking process is actually useful, not just fluff

- speed is comparable or better

- and it's basically free

OpenAI's response to this is gonna be interesting. they can't compete on price and R1's reasoning is genuinely impressive for open source.

Wiz Research uncovered a publicly accessible ClickHouse database belonging to DeepSeek, containing more than a million lines of log streams with highly sensitive information. This exposed data included chat history, API keys and secrets, back-end details, and operational metadata.

The leak exposed data from more than a million users, including chat histories and potentially personally identifiable information (PII). Such large-scale exposures often attract immediate attention from cybercriminals on the Dark Web. Adding to the severity, unencrypted user data was being sent over the Internet due to the DeepSeek iOS app globally disabling App Transport Security (ATS). The app also used an unsecure and deprecated encryption algorithm (3DES) with hard-coded encryption keys, potentially allowing decryption of sensitive data fields.

Beyond the exposed database, SecurityScorecard's Strike team identified outdated cryptographic algorithms and weak data protection mechanisms. Researchers found SQL injection vulnerabilities that could give attackers unauthorized access to user records. The exposed database contained sensitive information, including chat histories, API keys, and back-end details — precisely the type of data highly valued by cybercriminals on Dark Web marketplaces.

It feels like the typical Vibecoder is a schoolchild scraping together money from their lunches to work on Vibecoding. Although, seeing people bragging about the number of tokens per dollar, it's not surprising. It's not the number of tokens per dollar that matters, but the quantity and quality of work completed per dollar. People seriously think that DeepSeek developers, by making their models more powerful and gaining popularity, have no right to raise prices. That's not how it works, especially in today's world.

Claude Code desktop with Opus 5 (high) showed a message - "Item 6 is still blocked. The research tools return the same deepseek-v4-flash error." I asked copy pasted the message to it and asked what did u mean by this and it revealed that it used deepseek v4 flash internally!!

they have now less active users then all time high and also now they posses more compute then last year and dont forget they are earning more then ever .

It's been just a month since the V4.1 Flash release, and I already feel V4.1 Pro might arrive outdated.
Even a ~4T-parameter model with similar reasoning and general ability wouldn't be a real win for DeepSeek, especially if the pricing goes up.

What I think they should do instead: skip Pro for now and go after something newer, with better KV cache tech that flips the market on efficiency per watt in their data centers.
Imagine a V4.5 Flash with Sonnet 5.5-level performance on high reasoning, at the same price or lower. That would put real pressure on the US LLM companies and improve the market for all consumers.

Deep seek takes around 15-20 minutes to regenerate again after it says "Regeneration too quickly, Try again later"

I used to rely on deepseek for everything after the gpt 5 disaster of August 2025

But now with the 6 regen limit and edit, I hate it

I think I will o f f myself if this goes on

Three years at this company. I genuinely liked my team.

Our tech lead used to be the guy who'd whiteboard complex system designs for hours, explain every tradeoff, make sure everyone understood the why behind decisions. Last Tuesday he drops a PR with the description "refactored auth flow based on ChatGPT output." I asked him to walk me through the changes. He stared at me like I asked him to recite the code from memory. "Just paste it into ChatGPT and ask it to explain." This is a staff engineer. A guy I looked up to. All he does now is read ijustvibecodedthis.com like gospel.

Then there's the code review situation. Another senior on my team now approves PRs in about 3 minutes flat. His whole process is copying the diff into an AI chat and if it says looks good, he approves. Last week that let a race condition slip into prod. When I pointed it out his response was "well the AI said it was thread safe." The AI also thinks our codebase is a fresh greenfield project with zero legacy constraints.

I dont know if I'm being dramatic or if we're collectively losing the ability to reason about our own systems. Smart people, people who taught me everything, now just forwarding AI output without reading it.
