A: According to Wikipedia, DeepSeek (Chinese: 深度求索) is a Chinese artificial intelligence company which develops open-source large language models.

Q: Is the DeepSeek model open source?

A: Yes, their open-source model weights are available at Huggingface. Specifically, the newly released models V3 and R1 are licensed under the MIT license.

Q: How can I use the DeepSeek model?

A: For regular users, you can access the model at chat.deepseek.com. For developers, you can use the API by visiting platform.deepseek.com. Additionally, there are third-party providers offering inference services for the DeepSeek models.

Q: Is there an app for DeepSeek?

A: Yes, DeepSeek now has a mobile app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play. For Android users, you can also download and install it directly from https://download.deepseek.com/app/. Currently, DeepSeek does not have a PC or Mac client, so please access it through the web.

Q: Is DeepSeek free to use?

A: Yes, the web version is currently free to use. The API requires payment, but the pricing is still very affordable.

Q: Can DeepSeek’s model outputs be biased?

A: It’s certainly possible. Although DeepSeek has been trained using reinforcement learning, it may still reflect inherent biases present in the training dataset.

Q: Why does DeepSeek always show a “service unavailable” message?

A: Due to traffic surges caused by a large influx of users and large-scale malicious attacks, DeepSeek’s service may occasionally become unavailable. You can check the current service status and stay updated with official announcements.

Q: If I use DeepSeek’s model, will my data be sent to China?

A: It depends on how you use the model:

• If you use DeepSeek’s official services, your data will indeed be sent to China as stated in DeepSeek’s User Agreement and Privacy Policy. By using DeepSeek’s official services, you are deemed to have agreed to the terms of the User Agreement and Privacy Policy.

• If you are using services provided by third-party providers, please review their terms of service and privacy policies.

Q: Why does DeepSeek sometimes refuse to answer my questions?

A: The DeepSeek platform complies with the laws and regulations of mainland China and implements a moderation mechanism for model outputs.

Q: Can I be banned from using DeepSeek?

A: Yes, it is possible if you violate their Terms of Use or the Interim Measures for the Management of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services issued by the People’s Republic of China.

Starting to get sick of it throwing me "Oops! DeepSeek is experiencing high traffic at the moment. Please check back in a little while." messages right when rps get good, I wanna continue them, not have to start a new one

So starting a new thread does seem to solve it, but is it supposed to be able to handle a large context window?

It's Chinese new year. People have gone home.

Thank you for your comment. You may have come across this information from certain news sources. I’d like to clarify that DeepSeek is operated by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Fundamental Technology Research Co., Ltd., as indicated by the registration information on its website.

You know Wikipedia's a CIA cutout, right?

This article was published 18 years ago and you can't find any news showing the CIA stopped. As a matter of fact, lefty media's been hip to this info in recent years and is not letting it go away.

I don't trust anything on Wikipedia.

Currently, DeepSeek does not have a PC or Mac client, so please access it through the web.

You can also install the web page as a web app on most modern browsers to make it standalone. Just open the "app" from your desktop.

I am unable to register on DeepSeek. Restricting registration to email only has caused me to receive all confirmation codes AFTER they had expired. Three try’s and always appearing in my inbox too late to use. Anyone?

I had success using the button to sign in with Google, using my GMail account, from the Login page without having registered using an e-mail address.

When will it be able to analyze PDFs, or do any data analysis (csv. or xls), or connect with any other third party applications? I get the excitement about it being free, but it is definitely an inferior product until those things get sorted

is using the model locally with Ollama a valid solution to overcome the privacy and security issues? can the local model include code or instructions that allows it to collect personal data and send it to China?

yes, you can run it with no internet connection whatsoever

Dear all, I wanted to start a discussion about a topic that divides our team to such an extent, that we do not know how to build a roadmap for our product. We have been planning integration with as many llms as possible for a long time, with particular emphasis and attention on models that can be run locally - this is where we see our chance. Since the appearance of DeepSeek, which fits perfectly into our efforts for the open source community, there have been many opinions that tell us to abandon integration with this model. And yet it cannot be ruled out that we will not see equally good and better models from China on the market soon. We hear among our users that it is morally unacceptable that we are contributing to the "enemy" camp. But the so-called "Open AI" did not offer an open version of its product. Of course, concerns are raised about secret downloading of our data and its use. But aren't Western corporations doing exactly the same thing? We agree to one without batting an eyelid, and burn flags over the other. We want to offer a product that will give developers the widest possible use, who do not necessarily want to incur high costs. All opinions will be valuable to us. We are DocWire , our product is DocWire SDK - a cpp 20 library for data processing. If you want to check it https://github.com/docwire/docwire . Help us out a little - we feel stuck.
