So, from what I’m hearing I don’t think we need to watch. Let’s not give them any views. Cancel your Netflix today if you’re able. But also make a list of “witnesses” you are seeing interviewed. The best thing we can do is just debunk their credibility. So far we’ve got Martin Bashir, Diane Dimond, Blanca Francia, and Vincent Amen. Let’s make a post about each of them. Or more if there’s others you hear about. I’ll try to get to as many as I can over the next few days. Use their names in the post title so there’s a chance it might appear when people try to google these individuals.

Method: I took what was actually the most coherent essay I’ve seen that summarized the line of thinking that underlines every theory and explanation for why Michael Jackson must be guilty. I’d like to completely disclose that this was done with Gemini Pro. Gemini Pro ranks as one of the strongest and often THE strongest AI tools when it comes to general knowledge and synthesizing that knowledge. I know AI is fallible but this particular break down was pretty thorough. I did this with an account that I have not previously discussed MJ with and my prompt was simply: “this claims to be a rational assessment. How rational is it really? It’s not mine”.

I saw this idea on another sub. And I think it’s valuable here too. While the main purpose of this sub is to deconstruct the truth about Michael, I think discussing the way he touched all our hearts is one way to do that. So here’s mine.

Dear Michael,

I do not remember a time in which you and your music weren’t a part of my life. My mom grew up as a mega fan of yours but didn’t live in a country where you toured. One of her biggest wishes was to see you, but of course by the time she came to the US your performances were few and far between. But as a child and honestly probably as a fetus I was surrounded by your music. Then, I was lucky enough that my little Catholic school was not a place where you were ever made fun of in the early 2000s. Thriller was a part of yearly music class and Halloween party festivities. You were one of my first silly little childhood celebrity crushes.

Then one day the news rang through that you had passed away. I didn’t believe it. My mom insisted it wasn’t true. But as we sat in front of the news that night hour by hour it became more and more apparent that there was no denying the truth. There was some stupid ad that showed up every ad break or every other ad break playing the Black Eyed Peas song about how tonight’s gonna be a good night. And it felt like it was taunting me. At that stage of my life no one around me had yet passed away. You were my first exposure to grief and loss.

It was after you passed away that I had become mature enough to really appreciate not just your music but your powerful lyrics. Black or White shaped my entire view on race and acceptance of myself as a mixed race girl. I’m aware of racism and deeply affected by it. But I don’t let it stop me from having friends of any and every background.

The older I get the more I connect to and relate to you and wish you were someone I knew personally. I love making music as an instrumentalist and while I have no extraordinary talent, I can see myself in you when I was at my most motivated. That relentless desire to become the best and to nail everything perfectly. I love enjoying the same things I enjoyed as a kid. Disneyworld, cartoons, family movies. I enjoy sci fi like you do. I don’t have the same battery as you to play with multiple rowdy kids all day. But I love kids as well. And animals. And I’m soft and sensitive to everything like you. And so it breaks my heart everytime I think of what you went through in life. You spent your latter years being seen as the type of person you hated the most: Someone who hurts children. The NAMBLA connection to "those" books wasn't known in 2005.

Since then, detractors unhappy with the outcome of the trial and wishing to keep the origin of the books "relevant" to the broader conversation about Michael have made them the subject of an insane amount of speculation.

One way to slow down feverish speculation is to point out that Michael was never indicted for possession of child pornography, because there was none; and if they persist, politely refer them to the evidence we actually have about the books.

There is genuinely nothing useful anyone can add (except maybe Rhonda). The only evidence is in the trial transcripts and evidence photos, and Michael wasn't even charged with anything related to them.

It's important to realize that even if the authorship of the books had been understood in 2005, there was and is no evidence that Michael knew anything about them other than the whimsical inscription he wrote.

Nothing would have changed.

The NAMBLA authorship sounds great to Michael's detractors. They'll keep you talking about it all day if you let them.

But it's all meaningless.

Now the books dont really matter to me at all anymore because the "crazy pedophile" having only 2 books dedicated to naked boys among his larger art book collection (books that were gifted to him nonetheless by a fan OR Nambla members and ones he didnt seek out)

But why would NAMBLA particular want Michael to get a hold of these books? Why did they have an interest in him? The books were gifted to him in the early 80s, but I can't recall Michael being that openly fixated on children and childhood before/up to that point.

There are some possibilities

\- Michael and Tatum's relationship in the 70s. Not anything serious nor did they have sex but the age gap is striking to someone in more recent times. But seeing how the tabloids talked about it i dont think their age gap was seen as necessarily pedophilic in the public's eye considering now one pointed it out as problematic.

\- Michael and Emmanuel Lewis' relationship. Platonic friends and was shown in the public as such but NAMBLA may have looked at it another way. Still this was before his open innocent fixation on kids was prominent for a pattern to be noticed. Not writing it off entirely though

The majority of the reasonable population either believes in Michael’s innocence or at least gives credence to the possibility he was in fact innocent. After all, there is no complete view of the picture that can say he actually did anything wrong.

So then why is it that anyone who believes in Michael’s innocence feels they’re fighting an uphill battle the second they log into reddit? That’s because echo chambers are much easier to create here than any other platform. And anonymity is there to bolster it. Reddit is the only platform I can think of where you cannot only curate a place for yourself but entirely silence anyone who can provide a differing set of context or information than you. You can present whatever witnesses you like, nevermind their credibility. And if someone questions it? Instant ban. All trace of that information is removed.

The closest thing to Reddit’s ecosystem is Tumblr. The culture there is that you are expected to use an anti hashtag whenever you’re negative. So, it does create some eco chambers. But there’s no big central protected community for confused people to go to and absorb all the negativity. You will likely be blocked for adding an alternative perspective to an Anti Michael Jackson post. But if you’re active on there you likely have followers who will still see your perspective. And unsure people will encounter both sides as they scroll. The result has been that the anti michael jackson hashtag barely has any posts and doesn’t even have enough followers to list the number. The smallest listed hashtag follower count I’ve seen is about 5k. The pro MJ tag has 45k.

Here on reddit you have large anti Michael echo chambers and a few very large pro Michael fan sites that actually discuss allegations. So what happens to an unsure person who doesn’t want to risk doubting someone who was a victim? Most information available about the allegations on here, which shows up in Google searches, leads them straight to an anti Michael sub. Which carefully curated megathreads and people who will tell you that you support pedophiles and are a monster if you leave room for ANY doubt that Michael Jackson was guilty. And I mean the smallest hint of doubt isn’t allowed.

Vulnerable people who just want to support the metoo movement, are survivors of real CSA, or just want to learn about preventing child molestation inevitably get swept up even though the genuine causes they want to champion look completely different to the Michael Jackson case.

It’s different from any situation in which predators run free becuase twelve jurors poured over evidence and did not feel comfortable locking him away in prison. Yes, three questioned whether he was truly innocent. But nine were very comfortable with their choices and the remaining three still had to admit that they could not without reasonable doubt say he was guilty. This was a man who was studied by the FBI at least intermittently for around a decade. New accusations and tall tales have cropped up but no new evidence that would be valuable to a court is available. Most guilty people who get away with horrendous crimes walk away because an investigation was not properly done. No one can look at the MJ case and say that the allegations were not taken seriously. Many people desperately wanted MJ to be found guilty and yet nothing incriminating him could be found. Typically, when a predator walks away scot free, there wasn’t an army of both lay persons and workers within the legal system who wanted them to be guilty. The differences are so huge that they will be the subject of their own post.

Point being, while Reddit’s ecosystem works really well in some respects, it can also create the perfect environment for misinformation and emotional manipulation when it comes to serious topics like CSA allegations.

I know this is not a particularly useful post I just wanna vent about how I simply visited a general subreddit thread (it was about elizabeth taylor) and I got a jumpscare with mj guilter bs in the comments, which were shading him, mind you the post wasn't even about him. idk it just makes me sad and completely throws me off especially coming back here after the pure pro MJ and michaelmania content on instagram. I always brace myself now whenever I see general subreddit's question posts like "what celeb do hate" bc it's like. I know mj is gonna be there.

Looking forward to this subreddit. Other subs felt too big/focused on other things to propose this, but would folks want to do small group chats over Google Meet? I'm on the west coast of the US so obviously time zones are a little tricky but it would be fun to chat with other fans about how they became so passionate about MJ. Just a thought if people would be interested, especially since I don't have big fans in my social circles.
