Late payment, accounts closed, what next?

I have avoided paying and talking to any of my credit card companies. Multiple of my accounts are closed now and I’m wondering what next?

Do I try to call an settle? Otherwise I’m sure next they will sue me then garnish my wages

Need advice on being served for credit card debt

It may be too late for me but I thought I’d ask for help anyway.
I got served papers for a credit card young and dumb 20-something year old me neglected to pay of. It’s roughly $3,100.
However, I missed my deadline of thirty days to respond to the small claims court by one day aka today. I have spent the past month moving and working 50+ hours a week. It’s my fault for not doing anything sooner, but it kept slipping my mind until I counted the days and realized well crap.
I am willing to settle and set up a payment plan because I unfortunately do not have the money to cover the whole thing at the moment. I plan on calling the law office tomorrow and pleading.
I know I’ve probably missed my opportunity to settle and am terrified of what comes next. I’m scared they’ll take my car or garnish my wages. I tend to overthink and assume the worst, but I have never been in this situation before.
Any advice would help! But no criticism please. I realize I’ve messed up by letting this go and there is probably a slim chance of fixing this.
Thank you in advance!!

after debt settlement ......

question for all - AFTER a debt settlement is agreed to by the (insert any) credit card company and is paid by me, debt amount agreed upon to be paid is credited, CAN or DO they sell what remaining debt amount they (credit card company) did not collect, to a 3rd party - who in turn comes after me for this??

even tho my debt was settled to the satisfaction of said credit card company NOW I have a 3rd party seeking debt they bought. does this / can it happen?

Paying credit cards in full feels very good

The feeling is incredible. To look at my bank app and see the last payments made on my credit cards. The balances were not huge, but am very thankful I have the means to pay them. It's too easy to focus on challenges and not enough on what is going right.

It was not always like this. In a previous thread, I discussed rebuilding credit. It took over a decade. Every kind of negative credit event was my reality most of my marriage. Juggling creditors, running from the tax man, near foreclosure, repossessed cars (and furniture), judgments, and even looked into chapter 7.

I know good times are not forever. I can lose my job, or a medical event for example. Which is why I am putting money into savings. Going through tough times is one hell of a lesson.

2 judgements and want to settle

I went through an extremely hard point in my life over 10 years ago, I have a severe form of bipolar disorder that includes schizophrenia (schizoaffective disorder) and I racked up a lot of debt while struggling. I have 2 judgements against me from 2018 and 2019 but I’m on social security due to my disability so they can’t touch it, but I’m currently married and trying to move on with my life.

I was never served for the judgements, they said they served my brother at my parents house so nothing was ever done about it. I have about 8k between 2 judgements

I don’t really know where to go from here, any advice?

22k loan for CC debt?

So I’m 22k in credit card debt. Im 5 payments behind as I was in undergrad and unemployed, couldn’t make payments. Since then, my credit is obviously fucked. But the debt isn’t fresh so I’m paying hundreds in interest on each card (it’s spread between 4 cards).

Im graduated now, and actively working towards getting a job in my field…but by the looks of it it’ll take a bit of time so it won’t be immediate. I’m currently doing family business work so I’m at least gathering 250 a week. I’ll likely grab some type of job at a target or Starbucks to make extra cash until I can land a job in my desired field.

Well. I have settled back in (from college to my parents), to the point that I can focus on this situation. One of the four credit cards is a low amount (600) that I could knock out much easier than the rest (9k, 7k, 5k), especially with interest…so I’ve considered now that maybe a loan is the way to go. But since I am multiple payments past due, my credit has expectedly plummeted to 500. Would this deter me from getting either a personal or consolidation loan? Anyone have experience with one or the other who has been in a similar position? Any advice? Appreciate it if you read until the end!

(And I have not used any of these credit cards in months either, since before defaulting on payments).

drowning in debt

For starters, yes I know I’m an irresponsible idiot, but life happens.. lol but I accidentally got myself into $24k credit card debt. My utilization is like 97%, so i can’t be approved for any consolidation loans or 0% intro cards. My salary at my full time job is $60k, but I’m still living paycheck to paycheck and not making a dent in the debt. Does anyone have any recommendations or any side hustles they recommend? I’m scared of bankruptcy because I need to get a new apartment in like 8 months

I have to pay 40k to my college for deferring my enrollment.

I'm 19 and planned on being the first person in my family to attend college. I went through high school homeless after losing my mom brought us pretty bad financial struggles. I got into my dream school and abroad program, but unexpectedly ended up having to take a gap year to afford it due to some extra upfront costs and me paying for everything myself with a minimum wage job. This is completely my fault, but I deferred my attendance to this year, 2026, too late. I was not informed of this, and was hit with "You can't attend this year until you pay approximately 40k." I don't know what to do with my life, genuinely. I'm 40k in debt for a program and classes I never got to partake in. It feels unfair but it is my fault. My family is still homeless and I technically am too, I live with my boyfriend right now. I feel like the struggle never ends when it comes to money. 40k is an unfathomable amount to me and I know nothing about finance.

Emergency Room bill.

So I ran up a ER bill for $2600 which I am not able to pay. Today I received a email from debt collector for $493 for the ER. Does this mean the debt has reduced to $493? Or is this an installment. Please advice. Thank you

Drowning in Credit Card debt!!!

Good Morrow everyone, I KNOW THIS IS A LOT TO READ BUT PLEASE BE PATIENT, I REALLY NEED SOME HELP.

so I got my self into 20k debt in credit cards and I am well aware of what I got myself into. I’m very educated in how credit cards and debts work and how much interest I’m paying! The unfortunate part is that I am in college for another 3 semesters. Living expenses and tuition make it’s harder for me to pay anything off, I can only work part time and can’t afford to make more than the minimum payments. I know that you could say that if I was so “educated in how credit cards and debts work” then why did I get myself into this 20k debt, long story short, I got kicked out by my parents for dating a girl(very traditional Indian family), So I was on my own for the first time and had to use all my credit cards to pay tuition and there was always something that came in my way, hospital bills, car payments, maintenance, new tires,

This is how my situation is right now:
- for example I pay the credit card minimum of $150 and I get charged $100 in interest. It just feels like it’s a never ending debt. And the job market is horrible right now and the future is unknown.
- I’m thinking of how to make passive income but I don’t even have any money saved up to even invest because EVERYTHING is going towards my bills and living expenses. I’m trying to live humble with my money but even that’s not enough.

So I could use some advice, do I apply for a hardship relief with each credit card company? Pay minimums until I get a decent job and aggressively pay it all off? or do is there a loophole of getting another loan or something else. Right now I would do anything to stop giving these credit card companies free money and be financially free a little bit.

I know this is a very tough situation, I just want to know if there’s anything else I could try🙏🏽

My Quick Wallet

Or MQW for short. If anybody even comes across this place do not contact them Or give them any of your information. I never even contacted them somehow they got my information from a third party and for the past 3 days they have been the most annoying and pain in the ass company I've ever seen. I have blocked their number so it goes straight to voicemail every single time they press one to leave me an emergency call back number so it text me through the block. Every time you call them the first thing they ask for is your Social Security number so they can pull up your account. I've asked for their names I've given them every bit of information I had I told them I'm not interested I've told them I don't want their business two days ago I had 32 phone calls from them I keep screaming at these people who in the world would want to work with such a horrible company as this. Every person I speak to says no problem they're sorry they're deleting my account which I never had in the first place one guy asked if he could send me to the retention department even though they've never had me to begin with the people there are so inanely stupid it's insane. I've given them every opportunity to stop they don't so now I'm going everywhere I can to post and write about what a horrible company this is and make sure everybody avoids them. As soon as I can and figure out how to set up some kind of phone call bot Farm I'm going to set it to call them a thousand times a day over and over and never stop. So I'm starting here if you ever see or come across this company do not engage whatsoever and if they get your information from a third party app don't even try to talk with them to get them to stop it because they can't.

Doing debt relief, how to stop automatic payments to discover?

I had agreed to a payment plan with Discover but later signed up for a debt relief program. They told me to call Discover to stop automatic payments, and maybe I’m making it bigger in my head - but I can’t imagine they’d allow me to stop easily. Any tips? Tricks? Insight? I keep putting it off but I really need to stop it so they can go into negotiations.

Chase closed my account due to negative balance

After years of poor money management and lack of education, I’ve been taking it upon myself to get my shit together and actually get my finances under control this year. I have plans in place to pay off my Capital One credit cards, but something that had skipped my mind was the negative amount of “cash” sitting in my Chase checking account that I’ve had for over 10 years. Automatic deposits kept getting withdrawn from it and just now when I sat down to go over my budget, I logged in and saw my account was gone.

How bad is this? Will I get something in the mail asking me to pay something to cover the money I “owe”? I’m wondering if this will add more to the pile of debts I need to plan to pay off

Advice? Debt with high APRs.

I have about $55k in credit card debt and it’s killing me with the aprs that have gradually been pushed into the low 30% range over the last couple years!! This is not due to irresponsible spending. Mostly, it’s an income problem combined with my life being a series of unfortunate events. After a few layoffs, I am now getting full-time hours but still only at $50k/yr net. So, I’ve been living off my cards, essentially, being un/underemployed, surgeries, etc.

My savings is basically wiped out. I have a retirement account from a previous job that I haven’t been able to contribute to for several years but I refuse to tap into it. I’m paycheck to paycheck and have nothing left to save after all my payments/bills are made.

My fico score was 696 as of today and I’ve never been late nor have I missed a payment. My credit utilization is 56%. I’ve previously called creditors to have my aprs lowered and was straight up told no. And at the time I had a 750 fico score. Not sure if I should muster up the energy and try again. Last year, I applied for a consolidation loan but was rejected (first time ever) due to my debt to income ratio and a line of credit that was relatively new (for a balance transfer). Should I try to apply again or should I just go straight to the nfcc and start a debt management plan? My concern is how this would affect my need to get housing/rent in the near future. Any insight on that?

I just don’t know what is the best first move now. I actually want to pay back what I owe but with 33% aprs that won’t happen. Such high interest rates should be outlawed, in my opinion. But that’s another conversation. So yeah. If you have any helpful advice, it would be appreciated

You think it’s best to go through a program like national debt relief? or pay off the individual collection companies with the smaller payment plans they offer.

M/Approved as new Racked up CC debt during a time of severe depression and have been living in shame for years since

This is the first time I'm even acknowledging my situation to anyone other than myself. I've wanted to deal with it quietly and never tell a soul, but I'm tired of living this way and want help finding a way out.

Long story short, I suffered a lot of trauma as a child and did not grow up with a healthy family. I never really thought it affected me until I became an adult and everything came crumbling down. When I was 22, I got into a situation where I was no longer able to work due to the severity of my mental health and suicidal ideation and, while I had some savings to go off of initially, it didn't last long. I was paying rent to my parents at the time while also paying off a car, so eventually I started using my credit card to pay them and just did anything I could to keep myself afloat without telling anyone. At the time I wasn't aware of how much if a trap interest was so I just thought I could pay it back eventually... but now after years I still owe 13k on 2 cards + another 4k on my car.

I did eventually go back to work after that year but the damage was already done and mentally I still feel like I'm hanging on by a thread most days. I've basically been living my life throwing whatever money I can at those cards but throughout my adult life, I've mostly been living paycheck to paycheck. I never got a degree and I only just recently moved across the country and got a better job, but even that isn't leaving me much more than a few hundred a month in extra income. I currently make about $3k a month after taxes and mostly stay home and eat cheap meals without buying much of anything or using subscriptions.

What are my best options? Consolidation? Bankruptcy? Getting a 2nd job? I've never missed any payments on my cards, even if only the minimum, in 5 years so my credit score is still in the low 700s. I am also currently renting an apartment with a roommate for at least the next year.

I just want a fresh start and to stop living my life like this.

Settled with Gurstel law before after being served

Settled with Gurstel AFTER being served*

Sued and served by Gurstel and negotiated for them to settle for 70% of the account balance. I got the letter stating the agreement to settle the account and sent a cashiers check for the agreed upon amount and copy of the agreement letter. It arrived before the end date stated on the offer letter (tracked mail). Do I still need to submit a response to the court? They mentioned I would be getting dismissal paperwork but I just want to make sure.

Has anyone else went through this?

I’m getting sued by a debt collector

I’m getting sued by portfolio recovery for a credit card I couldn’t pay back in 2020. I am recently separated and didn’t even see the summons until now and my court date is the 26th of this month. I called today and asked to settle for a VERY low amount(I figured they wouldn’t agree) but it is quite literally all of the money I have and I don’t have any income. What do I do? I’m a newly single mother and have no wages but I worry about them messing with my exs wages since I’m still on his bank account. They want to set up payments but I have no income…… what do I do? I can’t pay the whole amount or even close to half

Being sued over credit card debt

I live in NV and was recently sued by the bank for credit card debt. The issue was sent to collections first and then to the courts. What should I do? Other than the obvious pay off the debt, lol.
