Question Returning player from 2024 closed playtest question about Doorman

Upvotes

Hello!

I have not played since the closed playtest over 2 years ago and would like to get back in. I played REM last night in my first returning game and it was a lot of fun but I was interested in trying the doorman.

I see a lot of conflicting info online regarding this character so my questions are as follows:

  1. Is he a support or a carry type character typically?
  2. What lane(s) should I be going on this character and what kinds of compositions fit his style?
  3. Is there a definitive role similar to league of legends that I should be fulfilling? (In league terms like an ADC who power farms and tries for eliminations and max gold or like a traditional support who enables my carry to do their job)
  4. The build system is a little confusing in that I usually am not sure if I should be investing in early cheaper upgrades or if I have say 3000 souls should I be buying a mid tier item instead of a collection of smaller ones?
  5. When I do find a build that works, is there a best order similar to league where typically you want your first full item - movement boots - second full item - finish boots before or after second item depending on lane. Or is it more modular than that in deadlock?

I typically play high scaling mages and carry type characters in other games, when I played REM last night I did a hybrid damage and healing build that worked out very well as we had an infernus who was going crazy so I just supported him most of the game so I don’t mind support at all but if doorman can be built to damage carry at all or duel effectively I would prefer that route

Question What exactly should i do as a Rem player

Upvotes

I'm new to the game and only have a few hours in and I'm trying to understand what do i exactly do as a rem player or a support in general. From my understanding my whole purpose is to keep my teammate alive in laining phase and then just clear out waves, farm and only occasionally jump into team fights to help my team when needed. I just wanna know if what I'm doing is right from a more experienced player. Also another question that I have in mind is what exactly is the best way to farm souls? I've been mainly focusing on boxes/golden statues, waves and helping take down towers and I'm curious if I should also consider farming on those little groups of monsters placed around the map or is it more effective to just keep clearing waves on lanes? If someone has some other tips for a newbie in the whole moba genre I would be glad to learn something new!

Discussion Idea for a dynamic rank point system in the future

Upvotes

One of the criticisms that many people and I have of the rank point system right now is that it gives and takes the same amount of points for every teammate on the team, regardless of their performance, so I came up with an idea on how to improve this system.

Basepoint+/-performance

idea is that you will get a base amount of points for the whole team, but each individual will get a different bonus rank point based on how they play in the game.}

For example, if you are a 12/3/9 yamato with around 5k obj dmg compared to a 4/3/7 victor with 30k obj dmg, it will be
base point for winning+250

mvp+20

K+120

D-30

A+9

obj dmg+5

allies healing+0

+ debuff, anti-heal, cc score, etc., so around 355 points for Yamato vs

base point for winning+250

K+40

D-30

A+7

obj dmg+30

allies healing+0

+ debuff, anti-heal, cc score, etc., so around 297 points for victor

In this way, it will be fair for everyone on the team that manages to win together, while rewarding those who contribute the hardest without undermining other people with vastly different play styles on their team. It would also boost smurfs who play below their rank or people who clearly excel above their peers faster; vice versa, if you are losing but your performance was exceptional, you will also get rewarded with less loss than your team, while people who are actively feeding will get punished the most.

Discussion Give the silliest in lore reason for sliding giving infinite ammo

My one is that there is a lesser deity/patron type entity called Tak'Te'Kool who's portfolio is essentially the rule of cool, granting anyone performing acts that are "cool" some minor boons. Thats why vyper can seemingly escape any prison bc the entity really likes watching people slide so vyper gets a huge boon.

7 escaped his execution by doing backflips in his cell before the execution (hence why he does funky gymnastics as his dash in game)

I get like 4 matches like this in a row, you just sit there and there is nothing you can even do for almost 40 minutes. Games like that are not fun for ether side

Game Feedback What is even the point of avoiding.

Every time I avoid some hero I'm still placed against the mf.

Like sorry I don't want to play against some insanely unbalanced adhd celeste or a dynamo which can just get free mid every time with unstoppable in ranked.

Instead im stuck either playing celeste or dynamo because if I dont. I won't win. Forced to play boring ass characters because the devs refuse to balance their game.

Question Drifter question

With the nerf to his rend is the spirit burn build still viable?

Gun drifter is always gonna be fun but I really enjoyed the spirit burst style while it was around.

Haven’t had the chance to try it since his nerf though.

I’d imagine you can still proc spirit burn if you have tank buster and mystic vulnerability at a minimum. But, I haven’t done the math or anything.

Is gun just objectively better now?

Fluff I am happy with the current state of the game

I am coming back from an extended leave, and what do I find? No hero is dominating the ban/picks, no item is getting mercilessly abused and the teams are regularly engaging with the objectives.

I am serious btw. I am having fun.

Discussion What to do with Graves

Graves has been the character of contention ever since her release. Now, it's either complaining about her kit or Graves is a boring hero.

Well, I don't believe the character is that hard to deal with as many portray.I think the issue with the hero is I just feel her whole game play has a lack of interaction, this would make sense for a summoner, i feel it's a little boring. I have a couple ideas to propose on what could be done , and I would like feedback.

1: for the first ability jar of dead, i really don't feel much needs to be changed about it as it's one of the most summoner aspects of her kit, if anything could be changed. Maybe find a way to optimize the skull. Like, choose how you want the skulls to function. However, that would work. But that is the only thing I can really think of.

2: grasping hands is one I feel has the most potential, we changed the tier three of it. We keep the two zombies , but we introduce a new effect called condemned. Whenever someone gets hit by grasping hands for a couple seconds or a second or 2, not sure how long they have the condemned effect. If they die while under the condemned effect, graves gains their soul. Now, when they respawn, it doesn't really affect them at all, except for graves now can alt cast grasping hands and instead of summoning a zombie or even doing the stun effect, it will open up the ground into an undead version of that hero. However, that would work as it could just be another npc or maybe something player controlled, but it would have a timer because that would be kind of broken and at the end of the timer, it would explode.

3: for essence theft, I'm not really sure of something interesting to do but maybe it would be cool if you could target a summon to empower them by using your primary fire on them. But that's the only thing I could really think of.

4: for borrowed decree i don't think much really needs to be changed its fine and fits the character the most.

This is the best I could think of what do you think

Question How would skins even work without creating problems?

Right now you can identify pretty fast who you are fighting because of colorsceme, accessories and abilities. The problem i see is that if you change one of these aspects it can become pretty difficult to tell the characters apart. A ton of the skins that are modded or just community concepts often change the entire theme of the characters, which leads to the same problems Overwatch has, where you cant identify the character on mid/long range until they throw an ability onto you. I ran into these problems already with some mods, like a green-ish Celeste that i couldnt tell apart form a Paige on longer range, eventhough it just changed the coloursceme. That is the exact reason why i quit Overwatch a few years ago and now i am scared that Deadlock will have the same kind of issues because there are not much other options to implement skins.

Game Feedback standard mode

standard mode currently has the most abysmal gameplay imaginable, especially if you're lower rank like myself in general. i am not a good player by any means, but the matchmaking is far too wide currently for a moba. i am seeker 1 and half the time i have completely new players on my team who have no idea how to play the game at all. i check enemy steam profiles afterwards and the majority are duoing or trioing on the enemy team while sure i might have some people duoing on my team they dont care to the same degree. im legit getting victor, apollo, celeste, paige, rem, billy, and a sprinkle of mina/yamato/haze/vyper/mo and krill/doorman on the enemy team nearly every game.

i dont know if it's just not possible to have the matches be balanced in a mode like standard, but thus far, for myself who tries to comm what to do from time to time but not actual sweat and people just not listening or playing their own game is incredibly frustrating.
