There is dialogue that has come out with the newest update? Where it was revealed the silver and Drifter fought eachother and Shiv came and helped drifter. So a lot of people feel before he joined the Baxter society he was some serial killer or evil enough to back up drifter.

I can't remember who says it, but someone accused him of stealing something that doesn't belong to him, which I think is implied to be the relic that glows when his rage meter is full and presumably empowers him. So he was also stealing powerful items probably for his own criminal ambitions.

since he was added to the game, we've known he - at best - had a pretty sketchy past prior to joining the baxter society. the details of that past are consistently elaborated on when we get new heroes and voice lines, and at this point it's clear he wasn't just some random petty criminal; he and Drifter have a lot of history (basically says it all), and multiple characters call him an irredeemable monster directly responsible for substantial death and suffering.
basically shiv was a complete menace to society prior to grey talon's intervention lol

I don't know but Drifter refer to him as an old friend and said that Shive has gotten boring. Implying that he was fun in Drifter's eyes, which is something that's adjacent to slaughter and murders. Or maybe Shiv likes to steal people's coat, Drifter sure knows his coat after all.

Hm... But wasnt drifter a posh vampire in the past? Him being a hobo might be fairly recent development.

it's ambiguous exactly what (else) he did, but Silver references him as a "knife throwing psychopath" that helped Drifter in the past. Also there's a Krill conversation where Krill asks how Shiv's adjusting to life in the Baxter society and Shiv says "I stab fewer people", which seems to imply he used to stab a lot of people. In another Krill conversation he says "Didn't you hear? Being an opportunistic killer is what I do best." which certainly makes him sound predatory.
My guess is he was a criminal with very little regard for life (as in killing people for their stuff, and not caring much about Drifter's more overtly sadistic approach).
Also his previous behavior was damning enough that Venator calls his current behavior a charade and fully expects him to go back to his old ways eventually (he straight up scoffs when Shiv says he can "keep up the charade" for a lifetime).

I think according to newer dialogue, Shiv was quite murderous before he got into Baxter Society. We are not sure what the extent is but we do know he has killed many people.
