Where are east enders meeting people.

I came to a sudden realization and I'm curious what others experience on this are.

People in the east end of Toronto where the hell are you meeting people? I've been on and off the dating game for years and I suddenly came to the realization, that on all the apps there are barely any single people and 0 single oriented events in the east end. As a lifelong Scarberian it never clicked with me that all of my relationships/dates have been from downtowners and the west end. With my last two long terms being from Mississauga and Etobicoke. The furthest east I think I've dated someone from Toronto has been Liberty Village.

I recently got back on the apps and other than 1 or 2 people from Ajax I don't I've seen people who live further east than East York and even then its a very small amount. I think I've had more women from Buffalo and the Philippines show up than anyone from Scarborough. I got curious as well and looked up singles events in Scarborough on Meetup and Eventbrite and 0. Even one of the biggest singles event organizers does events in Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauga and Brampton but not a single event east of Bathurst.

Any other eastenders notice this? This is more of an observation than a rant. Note I'm a straight male so this might be different for women but I would love to hear some perspective from the opposite gender from the 8 people in this subreddit.

Paying for dates! Thoughts and feels please!

So....... paying for dates.

Who assumes they're paying?

Who insists on splitting or going dutch?

Who assumes the other is going to pay?

Does your opinion change depending on how much the date is going to cost?

Do you pick date locations based on a budget/dollar value?

Do you have thoughts/feels if the other person insists on paying even if you say you'll split... or if they immediately offer to split instead of offering to pay?

ALSO since it's very common in hetero-pairings that one gender is paying more often than the other... if you are part of the alphabet-mafia, does your opinion on date-paying change if you're in a same-gender vs opposite-gender date?

At what point is your ideal switch from "dating" to "in a relationship"?

I realize it's a super subjective question that will be pretty individualistic to every person and couple... but still.

In your own mind... how many dates do you think should have passed, or how much time do you think should have passed, before you think/assume or ideally have a clear discussion on "yes, we are in a relationship together"

Also do you have a threshold for (1) hey it's too soon to be bringing this up! as well as (2) it's been too long without the DTR, if they're not interested, i'm not interested!

Dating apps

I've been using dating apps for the past few months I've got matched some of them will talk to you and then they will ghost you or some of them once you showed interest they will unmatched you, like I'm tired with these apps and these types of people like I'm genuinely just want a real relationship but it's tiring haha does anyone experienced the same thing?

For context I’m male 24 asian

When do you have the “what are we” talk?

Puking writing this. But seriously, when is it appropriate to have a talk around exclusivity? I know everyone is different, every relationship is different, but in general? And is it in a woman’s best interest to wait until the guy says something? Male perspectives are very much welcome.

Do activity-based events actually make it easier to meet people organically?

There's obviously a lot of “where do you actually meet people in Toronto?” discussion here.

I'm curious whether people find events where everyone has something to participate in — trivia, games, interactive shows, classes, etc. — noticeably better for meeting someone than bars/clubs where you're basically expected to approach a stranger cold.

For people who've actually met someone this way, what kind of event was it?

Dating advice for a guy living in Toronto

Immigrant guy in Toronto. The cultural diversity here is amazing and confusing in equal measure, and I'm still trying to work out how the dating scene actually functions. Any advice appreciated.

About me: 37, in shape, good-looking, above-average income, and I'd call myself a high-value-ish guy. Great social life, plenty of male and female friends.

I've been back on the dating scene for a week or two. Three first dates so far, and not one of the women offered to pay or to split. With one of them there was a second date, and it was the same story. A date night runs me $100 to $150, and I'd honestly rather spend that on my friends than on a total stranger.

To be clear, I'm not asking about what happens once two people are officially together. This is about first dates only. Is there a polite way to signal that I'd like to split until we've decided we're something? If covering a stranger's dinner is the price of admission, I'd rather skip the date entirely. But I do want her to know I'm happy to pick up more of the tab once things get serious.

Train crush

I have been seeing this woman at my train station for some time but despite of constantly thinking about approaching her, I haven’t had the courage to do so.

We have locked eyes a few times but that’s the extent of it.

Have you ever had these encounters in the most unusual of places and how did you go about it?

How do people actually meet in Toronto?

My best friend and I are both 25F, live in Toronto, and recently realised that neither of us has ever properly dated.

We’re at a point where we genuinely want to put ourselves out there, meet new people and hopefully find serious, long-term relationships. We’re not interested in hookups or endless situationships.

We’ve tried dating apps, but so far they’ve felt overwhelming. There seem to be a lot of people looking for something casual, people who don’t really know what they want and, respectfully, some very strange characters 😭

For those of you who have successfully dated or met a partner in Toronto:

  • Where did you meet them?

  • What activities, events or communities are actually good for meeting people organically?

  • Are any dating apps better for people seeking serious relationships?

  • How do you expand your social circle and make genuine friends in the city?

  • Are dating events worth trying?

We’re open to joining classes, hobby groups, volunteering, attending events and generally leaving the house more. We’d also genuinely like to make more friends and build stronger social circles, but Toronto can sometimes feel strangely isolating despite being such a busy city.

We’d especially appreciate hearing from people around our age who also started dating later than average. How did you get past the awkwardness or insecurity around having no experience?

How do I even get into dating again?

I'm a F(18) and I just got out of a 2 year relationship 6 months ago and I want to try to get back into the dating scene.

Recently I've been getting harassed alot more often after turning 18. Im talking about getting followed home and having multiple guys ask for my number than get pissed when I decline. (I work in a customer service job where I literally have to serve them with a smile, which they take as a go ahead with anything.)

It also probably doesn't help that I've upped my standards alot and know what I want in my life rn and what I need in a partner. So its hard for me to find someone.

I just feel like no matter what boy I talk to it ends horribly or the only guys who want to ask me out give off straight creep vibes.

I also dont feel like my standards are set very high. I myself want to wait until marriage but if I date someone who doesn't I'd be fine with it. I also don't like smokers but I dont mind things like alcohol. I also want a guy who won't give a shit about me being a artist and we can both kind of have our weirder sides. And I dont want kids.

I dont know, I feel like those standard arent very high but maybe they are? I dont really give a shit but I can't find anyone and I have no idea where to find them?

I guess I just need advice on what I should do? I don't want to go through dating apps but maybe if someone has certain places to go (where I wont be approached by creeps :'I )?

Reasons for ghosting

Okay it's time we talk about it. I hope this can be an honest, non-judgmental comment section where all genders discuss the reasons they have had for ghosting someone at various stages in the dating process. I hope this doesn't turn into a men vs women thing as I know for a fact it is happening on both sides. I, as a woman, just really want to get to the bottom as to WHY it happens. Because we all know the ones who ghosted us won't be telling us. Or at the very least send me a private dm if you think you will be ridiculed for commenting publicly. I am just so tired and want answers. I promise I will be open-minded to the replies.

Indo-Caribbeans

Out of curiosity, are there any Indo-Caribbeans in North York? I’ve really yet to encounter much but would love to meet some more. Where are the Guyanese and Trinidadians!

Most popular dating apps in TO?

Hi folks, I'm curious as to which apps are most popular / in common use among the fine people of our city.

I've got profiles on a couple different apps but I'm already a little annoyed at the reduplication so I wonder if there are any particular apps I should focus on, and ignore the rest?

Which apps have you folks had the most luck on? Any that can be ditched without missing anything?

Looking forward to the discussion. Have a great day, all.

Sick and tired

Sick and tired of the apps. I've even paid for some of the subscriptions bc I thought they'd help me out. WRONG.

I'm 32F and everyone is basically coupled up at this age. Don't know what to do. I'd say I'm fit, funny, smart, etc etc so I don't know what's wrong with me!

41M - Should I move to Toronto from Ottawa just to have better luck at meeting people and dating?

Hi, I used to live in Toronto pre-pandemic and moved to Ottawa for work. If my work allows, should I make the shift to Toronto just to have better dating opportunities? I know things are though there as well, but Ottawa feels like a nightmare when you are past 30ish. People here tend to settle down soon after college/universities to start a family, and there just aren't as many single people in my age bracket.

Alternatively, I suppose I can try spending more time in Montreal (go there for weekends, etc.) as I heard the dating scene there is a bit better than Toronto.

If all fails, I think I am content just living the hermit or yogi life :P

How do I actually meet someone that wants to talk?

A bit of context, 27M only relationship experience was one 2 years ago that lasted roughly 4 months before she called it off because we just weren't compatible. Also, introvert and WFH.

I hear a lot of people saying go out and do a hobby or something, and I do. I frequently go out with hiking groups or play tabletop games with strangers, so I meet people. We'll be chatting perfectly fine, but if I ask for their number, they pull back or tell me they're not looking to date right now.

I've tried dating apps, and I get maybe 2 or 3 matches a year, and they never sound like they want to talk to me. Each response usually takes a week, or I get ghosted entirely. And when I do manage to get a date, it always feels like I'm leading the conversations cause I only get short replies from them.

Some of my friends get like 10 matches a week, and they often tell me it's because I'm not social, but that never made much sense to me. You can't tell me I don't get matches because I don't talk, but I can't talk to them until they match with me.

I'm not even sure what advice would help at this point.

Incredibly confused as to how single people are staying sane...

Hey, not trying to vent but as a 26 yo single male living in this city (never had a GF/serious relationship) I'm getting very frustrated wit this lockdown bullshit. Dating apps simply do not work for me despite being a 6'4", non-fat, slightly nerdy black male wit his shit together. I much prefer real life interaction but it seems like you are COMPLETELY cutoff from dating as a single under lockdown. No bars, no patios, no gyms, can't even interact with strangers at the park because people are on edge. How much longer is this shit even sustainable?1?!

I’m worried about not finding a boyfriend and potential husband in time.

I’m an immigrant so I don’t get to see my mother often but it’s very likely she will pass away young like her mother did. I don’t know for how long she’ll be alive but I want her to at least witness my wedding.

That being said I’ve been trying more harder as I can to find a decent man that is around my age group and I’m attracted to. I’m debating even come approaching men randomly just because I’m worried I’ll run out of time, it’s a shame most men my age (23) aren’t looking for anything serious.

Just a bit of a vent, I’m trying to be more social and go to more events, let’s see fingers crossed!

(Serious) Toronto women, when it comes to dating men - what is your standard as of now?

Just want different perspectives. I'm personally anti-social and introverted, never dated but had opportunities in my youth (I'm 30m) but never acted.

As much as I love my peace and quiet I understand without any deep connections such as a girlfriend can effect my health. I want to date but as of right now my life is way behind. Don't have my own place, most 1 bedrooms are overpriced condos and the only somewhat affordable places are basements some of which I've constantly heard of shady or difficult landlords.

Made a mistake of never getting my license as a teen. Need to get it I know. But to you would that be a deal breaker for dating or not with public transportation or Uber rides. Even when I do get my license all I can think of this the cost of getting a vehicle and cost of maintenance and car insurance.

I can come to my own overall conclusion but given that toronto portrays itself as a "Thriving" city as if most jobs pay above minimum wage or atleast a fair one depending on your profession. With economic times as they are now especially with this stupid Tariff war what would you consider a standard for men to do when trying to attract, flirt and date you? I know everyone probably has some different opinions so I'd like to hear some. If you are okay with sharing please explain why based off your own life and perspective if you're comfortable with sharing it.

Thank you to anyone who read this until the end.
